Laidler is our best intercept player....playing as a loose man he cuts off many opposition entries and helps Henderson and Jamison enormously.

Wow, you got that right.

Supporters with no idea commenting on team selection like its blindingly obvious and only the coach/selectors cant see it.

Laidler missed the NAB Cup final. He's obviously not quite right yet or we're changing his role.

It's a long season kids. Doesn't matter who's playing Round 1. Lets get everyone right and if they need a couple of weeks to get right, then let them have it.

You guys are going to have to get used to one thing. No one is irreplaceable in Malthouse's system. Players will fit that system, noth the other way around.

I haven't seen the team yet, just the comments. I don't care who's in or out and who's been named where.

Laidler out also means Duigan has to play on one of Edwards, Riewoldt or Vickery. I am now officially praying for rain.

Say what you want TBB but its a stupid selection, leaves us with zero flexibility and if jamo gets hurt (one in a million chance I know), then what happens?

As stated by Mick in the paper's today

"it's not about picking the best 22, it's about picking the smartest 22"

Do bell and laidler just need more time to learn the new game plan. Joseph a smart footballer can play to instruction what mick wants.

None of this test these unblooded players in games against GWS that essentially prove !@#$%& all. Round 1, 75k+, your spot in the side to earn, Joseph and Bootsma. Go for it. Prove yourself.

At the end of the game, if we're saying to ourselves "if only Bell and Laidler had played, we'd have won", we're !@#$%& kidding ourselves as to our expectations and how we view the side.

Go Blues.

Halle-flower-luja!! Somebody gets it! Well said, Rhino.

What if Riewoldt or Vickery get hurt. We then have lots of flexibility. I'm sure Bootsma will do okay given a task if Duigan struggles.

Int: Armfield, Bootsma, Joseph, Lucas

Emerg: Bell, Laidler, Rowe

Would like to have seen Laidler in that backline instead of Duigan or, preferably, instead of Hendo and move Hendo forward.

And I wouldn't have minded Bell in the side instead of AJ, Boots, Duigan or Tuohy.

...then again, I'm not the coaching 'messiah'....

Anyway.

Go Blues!

It is a well balanced side IMO. The forward line has the right balance and the backline has a good balance.

The names mean nothing to me at this point although the names missing do raise some questions. Bell did something minor to get in the bad books with the coach i think i read but id imagine by seasons end he will be getting games. Laidler possibly still has a wobbly kneecap or just not required in the wet.
Could replace Duigan in the future but Duigan seems a favourite.

The way I look at it, we just missed out on a Prelim final in 2011 WITHOUT Gibbs in the team. Gibbs is now in the team, so we'll piss it in!

The only surprise for me really is that Hampson and Casboult are named in the same side.
They both seem like stay home forwards and I don't see Walker as a high up KP or leading forward either and this is were we regularly break down.

I suppose we can only speculate on what MM has instal for our team, perhaps Hampson & casboult may not start on the field @ the same time,if Joseph gets a run up around the forward i'd like him underneath a player like Hampson or Casboult to snatch up the crumb.....
