You were a consultant to Racing Vic. Doc ?............holy shit ! as a fan of the sport of Kings i want to know why jockeys arent allowed to bet.In fact i reckon it should be compulsory for jockeys to bet so that they could suffer along with us mug punters.Reckon denying them of there wallet satisfaction would pull 'em into gear quick smart.

There's nothing wrong with Ruffy coming onto the Carlton forums to express his views.
If there's a lack of substance in his comments he leaves himself open for people's suggestions.
He's a big boy. That's politics.

I don't have a problem in Carlton land just as I don't in Corporate land to see those who commit financially in a big way having representation on the Board. That is normal and understandable.
If they provide no substance in their vision that doesn't worry me either as long as they don't want power to feed their egos.

What I do want is to have contributors who have revolutionary ideas and experience to make the club bigger and better....for its members....for its future and a return on that financial contribution in the form of flags, reputation, and seeing sponsors lining up to be a part of something special.

The board is failing imo. It failed to reach 50,000 members which was an easy task (IMO) given they committed to achieving that number...and yes its just a number...but its an important number for everyone and its achievable.

There is a Carlton brand, so there's no need to invent one. There is 1 million supporters. There is a market which also recognises the brand, and there is a market which despises and is scared of a brand because it may rise again. Also this brand has the most premierships and a rich history.

Given the abovementioned, the board had plenty going for it to achieve 50K members. FAIL.

I use to purchase 20- 30 memberships during our dark period. Now I am in protest mode I buy 6 but in 2012 I bought 4 reluctantly. My relatives in Melbourne who have been members for more than 20consecutive years straight have been dudded with seating and they protested by not being members in 2012 (whist someone was looking into the problem for the 2nd consecutive year) because the club split up the family of 12 into 3 groups. I loved flying into Melbourne and joining them to watch our beloved Blues with all our kids and grand kids as we did since the 60's....can't do that anymore. The club is breaking down the foundation members like a cancer.

The club is not connecting supporters let alone connecting with supporters. IF they want to fix the problem, they must fix the problems they have created with their seating...of the very supporters who stuck by the club during the very very dark years...they are the foundations. Then they grow from there.LISTEN TO THEIR GRIEVANCES. These people don't even get involved with forums; they're not fanatics just love the CFC and like to watch them live together.

What annoys me with these supposed "visionaries" is that they have no vision. Its a wish list. 4 more flags by 2020 is music in anyones ear. HOW is what I want to know. How does the board create a Tsunami, and ground swell, hysteria which creates fear (and respect through jealousy...)amongst its opponents and moves they hearts and minds of its supporter base (1 million of them)?

Tell me what you are going to do, not what you hope for!!! Leave the hope to the supporters. Give me some substance to say " yeah that's innovative, I'll back that, it should make inroads, we're on the right track".

Thank you for comning on board Ruffy, but you're not connecting with me...but glad you love Sir Richard and barrack for Carlton...and lets not forget that behind that mask of confidence, you failed to make the 50K mark when others have blitzed that figure years ago.

Sir Richard made a massive contribution to turn the fortunes of this club. He's gone now, and the current board aren't achieving much imo. I'm a strong believer that winning games and making the top 4 (positioning for a flag) will generate more members; that's a given. However, we need to be generating more members when we are not making the 4 for the long term sustainabilty of the club.

I love Carlton Footy Club, but I don't feel the club loves me. I didn't buy my memberships till just before June 30, and no one called me because no one cared: there's your problem Ruffy. You guys are not genuinely reaching out and embracing your supporters...that's one reason why they don't become members....and it seems to me, one year soon, I will be a memberless supporter too.

Plenty. Land use, training facilities, regional racecourses, partnerships, relationships, whistleblower employees, long-term strategic planning and failure to promote the jockey as an athlete. They were doing plenty right too I might add.

I'm not set in my ways, Im happy to change my opinion on anything if Im wrong. What I am though is careful with my words, so I don't say anything unless I'm pretty sure Im right.

I'm not mis-representing what you're saying.

Finding consultants who are full of it in schools and public service would be pretty common. In the private sector you're still going to see a lot of it, but to say the consultants the club are hiring are full of it because you had a couple at your school is crazy stuff.

Stick to what you know well mate

Well Brad you finally said it
I dont say anything unless I am pretty sure I am right

How flower boring would society be if we all did that

And how many incompetent, overpaid, corrupt people would rise to the top

More than we have now which is a worry

Inference Brad

read between the lines
This is Talking Carlton
right
so lets read between the lines
Our club that we both love and support has under peformed off the field
a board that has sacked its last 3 coaches and in the process has caused financial hurt
no new ideas to make us cutting edge compared to the other 17 clubs
We are treading water
we are not going ahead of the other clubs
When people on the board are questioned over this they trott out the good stuff
great new facilities
nah every club has great new facilities so that line doesnt wash with me
one example right
the club is average
if everyone was like you and was so conservative with their words these guys and girls would never be questioned at all
and that Brad is a bad thing
listening to Mr Germinder worries me
I have heard it all before
I didnt hear one thing that makes me feel that the CFC can move ahead of the other 17 clubs in anyway
and why would he come on just before the AGM

And as for consultants well I have encountered many in my working life( I am 49)
In most cases the people who employ them would have been better served getting the answers and solution to their problems from their fellow employees. It would save them the regular four figure daily fees consultants charge.
This would be the case in roughly twenty cases I have experienced in my working life.
When you get to that number I reckon
you can have an opinion about consultants.

Oh really?

Whats that got to do with this board and not Richard himself?
Reminding you there are two Pratts on the board. One is senior VP .
And they backed a coach to the hilt and then sacked him.. never bothering to have any process before , during and after Ratts?
Never mind the money aspect all this nonsense cost us.
Name one club without a training venue and ill give you an Oreo.

Synbad,
I will tell you what it's got to do with "this board" & not Richard himself. Despite the fact he died nearly 4 years ago. Two of the board members (Ruffy and Jeanne) are still writing massive cheques to the benefit of our club.

I wouldn't bet that Ruffy backed Ratten to the hilt. I would be more inclined to believe the Pratt's questioned Ratten contract extension more than anyone. Ruffy is one vote in 14.

You may have a point with the absence of process

I can not see how you can pin the money aspect of Ratten's termnation on Ruffy, Jeanne. That is more a function of Swan Kernahan.

WE DIDN'T HAVE A TRAINING VENUE UNTIL DICK FUNDED ONE AND THE ONGOING VISY SPONSORSHIP HELPS MAINTAIN IT.

You can moan all you like that we lack George Harris or Mguire type leadership but Ruffy and Jeanne have never professed to be in their class of sports visionaries. They are not consultant types, who sit on the side lines offering ideas. They have put their money where their mouth is, without highjacking the club. Let better people stand for the board, I am sure the time will come when they would willingly stand down, but at the moment they are the best on offer.

It is easy to be thankless Synbad. I am not sure if the Visy sponsorship is 3 or 6 million dollars annually but I think you will find it is the largest private sponsorship in Australian Sport. We are not talking about a Public company (Qantas, Telstra) spending shareholders money. We are not talking about a Multinational (Kia, Ford). We are not talking about a Packer/Murdoch type sponsorship that reaps personal benefit through television rights. We are talking about someone dipping in their pocket for little personal gain, some profile & corporate promotion. When you have found the people and plan to replace the 3 or 6million in revenue or you can find the 20,000 members needed to replace the sponsorship- let's start arguing about the definition of "poetic licence".

Heartfelt post that BB.
maybe the club could have a 'give discontinued members a hug day.'
a phone call from Luca made a big difference to Doc.
So, what if players, and senior staff & board members gave their time to call the Synners, and other lapsed Cath..err CFC supporters to say..hey, we are sorry we let you go, we didn't follow thru. It seems we were blind, but now we can see. You mean the world to us.
Please come back.
We are re building, we want your input. In short, we value you. Please accept this hug.

If they were giving hugs from CFC players, to regain members...
who would you want your hug from?

I think I'd go for Duigs. It's be a caring, centered kind of hug. :smoking:

So we rely on handouts is what youre saying?
And with these handouts come to sitting members on the board. Strings attached.
But the board is unable to tap into any kind of 3rd part greatest sponsorship in Australia.

Thats actually my point. !!!

Thankless about charity and strings attached ???

Oh ok...

This concerns me, we're relying on the charity of a single family to stay afloat.

Two families... one alone couldnt do it...

And the charity is big.

They do demands for seats in exchange.

But yes ... its a transparent board that doesnt belong to the rich.

Now if they didnt make ludicrous decisions that cost money.. and they were magnets for corporate dollars and members...

We wouldnt need them...

Anyway.. id love to know the exact Pratt figures these days ....

2 seats means we should know
