I think we're in doo doo without Gibbs. I don't expect him to line up at all. No miraculous recovery here.

He's such an important player and extremely consistent.

Damn.

IF Gibbs doesn't play, what do people think of Yaz moving into a midfield role this week? The problem I see with losing Gibbs is losing that "outside of the square" creativity. Yaz has a bit of this but with his own angle. Add to that his time in defence adding the accountability element to his midfield game and we could have a serious x factor. He could play like Gibbs, swinging forward or back as needed, all the while injecting lashings of his infamous dash.
Then, instead of having to replace Gibbs' role/player type, we just need a reliable kick and solid defender to contain Yaz's opponent in the backline. Cue JR, Tuohy or maybe even Lucas(at a pinch)

Gibbs is worth 3 goals a game either directly or indirectly and we need someone who can do the same. For me, it's Yarran all the way.

l am also concerned that given the whole focus was to just win a final this year, and that it's now be done, the players might drop their guard ever so slightly, even on a subconscious level, and don't go out there giving 110% as they already achieved their big aim for the year.

My concern also. There was such a build up to Sunday's game, winning a final, Ratten's contract, home final at 'G etc, there is bound to be some kind of a let down from that, especially playing interstate.

Don't agree at all. I was as worried as anyone prior to Sunday and up until the 25th minute mark of the first was pooing myself.

But I then realised, and have had reinforced since, that they were very, very confident against Esseden and still have the Robbo/Army grunt, with the 3 Amigo enthusiasm/pace, the wise heads of T-Bird,/Simmo and the Murph/Judd class to take us to a Prelim.

They're not that good. Stop NicNat, stop Weavels.

I like your thinking.

Disagree with Yarran in the middle. He is yet to master his existing role, to ask him to perform a cameo, in my view, would be disastrous.

He's becoming an Andrew McLeod but is not quite there yet. He dashes like a rabbit but unfortunately he also acts like a rabbit in the headlights too.

Fix that up and then he might be a go for the middle.

Maybe Scotland could be the link up man.

The whole "haven't beaten a top 4 team" criticism is a bit lame really. You want to win all games, of course, but we knocked of a couple of top 4 teams last year, including a 10 goal win over St Kilda, and what did it prove?

Has our team improved in 2011? It's a pretty big yes from me, and most other judges.

My hope is the Eagles get sucked into their own hype and think they have this game in the bag. It may turn out that them beating us in Melbourne was our best loss of the year.

The thing I've always found funny about the "haven't beaten a top 4 team" bullshit is that the reason teams make the top 4 is because IT'S REALLY REALLY @#$%&! HARD TO BEAT THEM.

We're saving the 'beat a Top 4 team' for when beating a top 4 team actually gets you somewhere.

Tell you who we have beaten though...

Essendon*...
In a sudden death game...
by 62 freakin points.

How do they like them apples?

THIS.

No point beating a top team if you're going to lose to powerhouses like Melbourne and Richmond.

Even with Gibbs out, I reckon we'll win!!!

Stop worrying people! Get to Visy Park and at around 10:30 the place will be going off!

Yazz will dominate Subi, Eddie and Jeff will be pumped, Walker to bag another 4 or 5, Jamo to carve Kennedy, Murph and Juddy dominate the midfield, Carrots to make Kerr seem like he wasn't playing, Ellard and Robbo too tough, Hendo to run off Q, Laidler and Duigan to make Nicoski and LeBra look like women, Big 206 to have another ripper of a game, Setanta to kick 3 left foot snap goals (all played on), T-Bird to play like Jonno Brown again, and Simmo, Army, Joey, Scotty running, running, running....

GET EXCITED PEOPLE!!

Let's remember Robbo was out of the midfield rotation on the weekend. I'd think he and 1AW could cover Gibbos midfield contribution easily. It's the forward contribution that will need some thinking.
Could the lobster be a chance?

Camelboy, not everything is black and white.
We beat Geel twice in 2009/10, and also beat St.K last year, but with Geel I'd argue we got them on good days, and St.K I'd argue we just match up well on them. Maybe we match up well on Cats too, I don't know - but then late last year when they were switched on they beat us easily.
So it's not as easy as isolating one or even two games, as Ess have shown. Ess beat Geel, but it was just one of those days. Geel are an infinitely better side.
Which is why I think our ‘continual’ failure this year to beat the top teams tells us we are just that smidgen short of the top teams.
The other thing is maybe this year the top teams took us more seriously as our record early suggested we'd be there abouts ??

2011
We lose to ...

1. Coll - 28 pts
1. Coll- 20 pts
2. Geel - by a kick
3. Hawk - 2 gls but mashed early
4. WC - 5 or 6 gls

But we beat ...

6. Stk - a kick
7. Syd - about 20 pts
7. Syd - smashed em
8. Ess - smashed em
8. Ess - smashed em
Outliers …
Ess draw is an odd one out but we should have won that game + St.K most recent game but we just didn't turn up, the tackle count proves this. So these are example of how the odd game won’t go according to plan.

If you can't see a trend in that you're fooling yourself

Look...
We are a chance. I'm a believer.
let's not forget though...
West Coast are a darned good side. Have been all year.
They are undersogs too...in the wider scheme of things...so will be just as determined as we are.

Andrew Walker to complete the circle with a BOG performance against the Eagles kicking 5 goals.
