Wouldn't have thought so, Mark Austin will not play.

Just refresh our memory please. What was it you promised if Austin gets a senior game?

Not the point in this case. Our defence cannot man all of Lynch, Darling, Kennedy and one of Cox or NicNat. They need a chop out in the form of a third tall, or it will be the Adelaide game all over again, against an arguably cleaner midfield that will honour leads more.

I understand the argument for backing the run, but West Coast are playing confident and composed footy, and know where to go to exploit the matchups.

I reckon they are starting to show cracks. Skills have been a bit off. I reckon if we put the carlton pressure on them early they will gift us a few goals. Their big guys up the other end will be useless when the ball is in our press with us scoring on the turnover.

We should have won that adelaide game by a street but our bad goal kicking gave them a sniff. In the end our extra run got us the win.
That was the closest any team has come in a long while to beating us with height.

Imagine all them talls trying to catch yaz on the rebound. I doubt worsfold will play them all in the forward line. He will at first but we will call his bluff.

Having said all that i take the point that Austin is replacing Duigan so we are not adding a tall.

I am not against bringing Austin in. I am just saying there are other options that IMO give us more of an advantage.

Just listened to Daniel Kerr on 6PR.

I realise you can't put to much stock in what they say, but he was very upbeat about their chances. They have set themselves for this game.

Not a bad interview TBH, steered clear of 50% of the cliche's.

Several Swans players said the same last week.

I think it will be similar to our last few WCE games we'll do what we have to and win by a few goals but it won't be spectacular.

Not so long ago every team set themselves to play against us for a good old fashioned percentage booster.

Nowadays they are setting themselves so they dont get pantsed.

Austin must play.

I understand the match committee's focus on run, but we have been caught out a few times by opposition's tall forwards - Collingwood and Adelaide especially.

Kennedy, Lynch and Darling means we need to have 3 talls down back. One of Cox and Natanui makes it imperitive. And it's not just purely because of match ups. It's also insurance in case Thornton is getting beaten, or Henderson is down and Thornton needs to go forward, or whatever...we need the extra tall as insurance against a team with so many of them.

Yes, the past 2 years.

Unfortunately Paul isn't the player he was a couple of years ago. A combination of injuries and form means he probably behind Thornton, Laidler and now Austin (evidently). Hopefully his body holds up and he can play some consistent footy and find the confidence and form he has lost.

Bower is just regaining some touch after going up to the AIS and working on his running gait to help with his quad troubles. He'll take another fortnight to work himself back into good touch. Short of injury, Bower should be back in the first XVIII in the next 6 weeks.

If you're puzzled as to why we should do this, I direct you to his 2009 season, and his early games in 2010. When he is fit, Paul Bower is a huge asset to our defensive run, and combined with Jamison, Yarran, Tuohy & Russell, will leave the opposition helpless in attempting to cover all the possibilities.
