Essendon* denied the speculation that they were the Melbourne-based club pursuing Murphy by saying he "has not been on our radar".

The Bombers denied having spoken to Murphy's management about his future, according to an official.

So they definitely did speak with him then.

IMO this deal may be some time off yet. In this instance his management is probably waiting for the heads of agreement for the new AFLPA CA to be signed, which will follow the new TV rights deal but needs to be in place before the 2012 season. That will detail what the total player payments will be for next 5 years.

After all, if you are negotiating a long-term deal for your client (which is what it presumably what it will be to ward of GWS) then why would you agree to a slice of the pie before you know how big the pie is actually going to be?

I think Nightcrawler is on the money.

Murphy will be with Carlton for life.

Damien Barrett brought up Murphy again on The Footy Show last night. Mentioned that talks hadnt broken down but had halted for about a month. He mentioned it was for personal/private reasons that this had happened.
The longer this goes on the more worrying it will become. I dont think he will go to GWS but i am worried about him wanting to go to another club.

I'm not worried at all personally. This is the usual length of time it should take to sort out a contract. There are bells and whistles and the football department and players are more focussed on the week to week stuff that they're getting paid for.

If he was making some noises or playing sub-standard football with respect to the team I'd be asking questions. He's happy playing in the navy blue and he's playing some great football that's helping our team rather than boosting his stats.

He wants to be signed; his agent is just trying to extract value out of it.

you'd think the longer Gold Coast go without a win and continued embarassement at being absolutely flogged every week, the less inviting GWS would be for any player, no matter what the $

keep losing Suns!!

Barrett is a shit-stirrer, and if it's for personal/private reasons (if true) it sounds like nothing to do with CFC and perhaps Murph just wants to focus on one thing at a time.

Murph has been playing excellent footy too.

Gws is irrelevant. We want him to stay because he wants to and loves the club..... Simple really. Just worried just by his first contract extension murph is really reallt money conscious.

Why does anyone waste their time with those scandal addicts that do the "news" on The Footy Show? Doesn't anyone remember Craig Hutchinson reporting that Bryce Gibbs was unlikely to sign with the Blues anytime soon and was in discussions with the Gold Coast from last year? From memory his contraction extension was announced about a week later.

They should stick to paying gambling addicts for their story.

I remember Hutchy on the Footy Show, he said that GC was making it difficult for Carlton to get Gibbs signed. Never said that he wouldnt re-sign.
Anyway, i hate this and i just wish it was sorted out sooner rather than later.

Sorry but that statement is incorrect.

His last contract extension was delayed because we asked for AFL approval before it was finalised. It wasn't because Murphy was money conscious.

You, and others with a similar attitude are going to be in for a very tough time when free agency is introduced.

DB actually said that he expected Murphy to sign with Carlton and that talks were on hold for personal reasons. He didn't allude to the fact that there was a big drama but only that there was a personal reason why it was on hold and nothing more and that he expected him to resign.

Some of the conspiracy theories on this site boggle the mind given that most heard what Barrett said but chose to place a different spin to it.

Murphy is going to be on the channel 7's game day on Sunday morning. It will be interesting to hear what he says as I have no doubt he will be asked about it.

I'm sure what he says will be I'd love to sign with the Blues, we're working through the contract details at the moment, we're in no hurry though. My manager may have received offers from rival clubs, but I'm not aware of any of that.

It means absolutely nothing, buts ome of the NN's around here will then come on running round in circles saying they're worried it all means he's signing with GWS.

Murphy on Game Day, just asked about his contract.
Said things are hold at the moment, wanted to start the year off well. Said something about mid year starting up again.
Was asked about if he wants to stay and said very unconvincingly that he did and looked very uncomfortable and blushed. Not as confident about him staying.

Robbo - How are contract negs going Murph ?

Murph - Talks have been put off at the moment, just concentrating on my footy

Robbo - When will negs continue ?

Murph - Look at it midseason

Robbo - Do you think you'll be a blue in the future ?

Murph - Id've thought so.
