This is always and interesting exercise in the off season as you cant fins spaces for them all but here goes

Thornton Jamison Scotland
Gibbs Waite Bower
Stevens Judd Grigg
Walker Cloke Houlihan
Betts FEV Fish

Warnock Murphy Hadley

Kruezer Russell Yarren Simpson

I want Gibbs to become the go to man off half back

Really happy to see a couple of key posters nominating Waite @ CHF and Bower @ CHB in their best. I hope the MC see it that way as well because a forward line consisting of Waite/Fev/Kruez/Fish is really potent.

Bloody oath it is especially on a dry day.

I'm sure if Waite was further up the ground, say wing, he'd find his way in the forwardline. He's done it before. His athleticism and pace is often under estimated, let alone how deadly he is around goals.

I have a spot for Fisher in my team, but I love your best 22.

Best one yet.

Always good to see your team Cazzeman. Last year's effort was pretty close IIRC.

I've seen you place Simpson at HB and BP before. I've seen Simmo play back pocket and he ran the ball out well for us. Is that your thinking?

Interesting to match Thornton on the really tall 200cm forwards; I feel he struggles against the monsters.

Hammer rotating with Warnie....you know he's going to be good in 2009. I can't wait to catch up with him next week and see his progress for myself.

With all those games under his belt in 2008 and another preseason, Russell is expected to take the next step.

Interesting that you are another one who has Browny ahead of Army. I'm the other way around. But there's a good argument for Browny from CJ69.

I think Yarran will be played in bursts from the bench; he's still so young. I'm sure the rest of us who have him at HF just like the idea of him being there.

Waite and Walker and Fev and Kreuzer forward is something to behold. Looks like a plethora of choice to goal, no longer one dimensional.

I hope they all stay healthy.

It will be a tough year for Fisher if everyone stays healthy.

Did you have any trouble tabling the team with the added depth to the team?

Out of all those teams my preference would be Blue Vain's, has it pretty much spot on.

That should worry him. 8)

Is that because Cazz has Hammer in whereas Blue Vain has Cloke as the rotating ruckman?

I like them all. It's a difficult task to fit everyone in, and good to see that even on paper players will be competing with others for a spot.

Furthermore, some of the kids can do their apprenticeship and develop their bodies instead of being thrown to the Lions from lack of choice.

Mines a little different that most.

Warnock, even with his games last year, has shown nothing as yet. He is full of potential, much like our other draftees. So i start him on the bench. Cloke is on his last legs though, but gee i've been impressed with how hard he has worked for this club!

With Walker, i've put him in arguably the most important position on the ground. I remember when Kouta was put at CHB half way through the 99' season.......... and he REALLY found his place in the team.
After such a blistering start to his career, he struggled in defensive roles and with taggers. But in 99', after being placed at CHB - he just felt at home. I think Walker could pretty much do the same.

Houlihan, who is one of my most hated players, impressed me with what little game time he had last year. The brisbane game was the first time i'd seen Houlihan ENJOY his football for a long long time. Maybe since 2001??? I think he'll slot in nicely up forward alongside Fev and wont run into his space and leads ala-Fisher.

Setanta is a valuable asset to this team. Jamo could well be our best defender, but i don't think he can hanlde the big power forwards in Pavlich / Brown / Hall.
Waite - Walker - Thornton etc etc.....all have been tried and all have failed! Setanta has done more than a resonable job against all of them. HE IS NEEDED!
(note:- i haven't forgoten Thornton, i've left him out due to lack of faith!)

I love the idea of Bower and Grigg playing the flanks......... Bower i think knows when to fall back into defence and when to break away to create another option in the centre. He'll get better at that during 09'.
I love Grigg. He'll be a 200 gamer and become a better version of Campo - i promise you that!

With Kreuzer and Waite, i dunno..... i like the idea of two talls who know how to take a mark creating a bit of preasure accross our Half-Forward line........

I think Ratts would probably have Thornton in his side.

It has probably been covered in the 16 or so pages of this thread, but it should be noted that at least 1/3 - 7 players - of a possible best 22 at Carlton would comprise Top 10 draft picks in

Walker, Russell, Murphy, Gibbs, Kreuzer, Judd, Yarran

Below is an old site article recently updated for Yarran which shows our history in making top 10 draft picks.

i'll have a crack....

b -- thornton -- jamieson -- carrazzo

hb -- scotland -- waite -- bower

c -- walker -- stevens-- gibbs

hf -- russell -- HARTLETT?? -- houlihan

f -- kruezer -- fevola -- betts

r-- warnock - judd -- murphy

ic -- cloke -- grigg -- simpson -- yarran

em - o hailpin - fisher - hadley - hampson

Hartlett is the big gamble / question mark.. would do wonders for our structure if he stepped up........ if he dosent show anything preseason then id bring in setanta for backline and move waite forward and either fisher or hadley onto the bench.

Gee this coaching caper is bloody hard........Ratts -- its all yours
