Not sure why but I cant feel the excitement some others are. I thought the performance was slightly concerning given the opposition (especially in the 2nd half). Skill execution and style of play, moreso the way the players carried it out, and some of the tackling and clearance work was a worry. We were killed in clearances and they were missing Lade and in particular Shaun Burgoyne.

There were promising signs in particular the performances of Hammer, Pfieffer, Jamo (again) and even Ellard

But I hope we improve SIGNIFICANTLY between now and round 1

Loved us finally catching up with the rest of teams gameplans and using the handpass game. It is the way to go. It sucks opposition players that would otherwise be pushing back bhind the ball back into the play. If a team can master the art of handpassing at all costs out of the backline and still manage to get handpass while in a tackle they are halfway there.
THe cats did it all last year then once they get it in the middle they go long into the forward line to a three on three situation. Port are also good at this tactic.

I wonder if Murph will give the orange boots the flick. I noticed he changed them at half time. Id like to see him get the old school black boots on.

Tackling has been an issue for years Marci but I'm not worried about it this early. I hope once the intensity starts lifting later on, so will this. They guys didn't look 100% on the ball and that is what made me feel better. Well atleast it seemed that way.

It's funny how he and Fev changed the orange boots at half time.

Maybe they wore them for a half so that they could donate or auction them......

Here is what i got out of the game:

Dissappointments:
-Murph had a shocker but im sure will bounce back 8)
-Still kicking it to a player up against 3 opposition. Most of the time fev, but i remember waite kicked out of full back to betts who was covered by 3 guys twice his size. There were many.
-probably over used the handballs alot, passing to people with opponents right on their asses. Some occasions you need to just kick it. Probably due to not enough talk.
-Decision making was poor at times, some resulting in goals
-Port demolished us from the clearances without Lade and Kane Cornes.
-Saddington, its time to give up on him.

Excited:
-Pfieffer, played well and am sure will get a game majority of the time. :-D
-Edwards showed promise, Jamo played well and Hammer.
-Alot of intensity, aggression around the ball.
-Simmo, Carrots & Heath continued on from last season.
-Waite showed why they need him down back.
-T-bird showed he is versitile.
-Good to know we have Judd, Walks, Setanta, Hadley and Ando to come back in.

All in all i think we have showed we are trying new things, most of which looks like will work once it has been fine tuned, The aggression and work rate was the sealer for us i think, Skills need to improve come Round 1, bit sloppy. Alot of youngsters are ready to step up meaning if your off your game, your in the Bullants.

Things are looking Blue in the Horizon.
:-D :-D :-D

get used to us handballing more often than not.

Anyone know or heard what the deal was with Wiggins?

He was named in the side, I was sure I saw him in one of the huddles, but I didn't see him on the ground, and the stats have him listed as in the side but with donuts in all categories. I reckon he was in the team and didn't even get a run...

Someone was asking about Andrew Symonds before. Judging by the picture of Ratts and Stevo singing the song on Carltonfc.com, I reckon that's him in the background in the rooms...

Wiggo. Made us win even if he wasn't on the field. That how powerful he is.

After the last 5 years I will take any win but Saturdays win was meritorious given the conditions interstate 36 C young side first real match of the season
Who felt the lump in their throat 5 minutes in and we hadnt scored and Port were twenty points up - we fought back really well - port were undermanned but we also at least held on to win when challenged at the end
Chockful of young guys bower jamesion Hampson murphy gibbs edwards pfeiffer to name a few that performed well

We did get murdered out of middle and at stoppages but still managed to win
We had a one dimensional forward line Fev but still won -backline exceedingly young and inexperienced but we won
Stevens and Cloke whilst not starring played their first real game in 12 months and got through
Our senior core scotland stevens simpson carrazzo waite thorton fevola fisher houlihan will be infinitely better with a fit hadley judd and walker in the side.

People laying into Carazzo for his disposal need to realise that he is a work in progress. Two years ago he was woeful. Last year he played with more confidence and was on the whole very good.

I think he is one of those players who's skills run according to form & confidence. Give him a few weeks into the real season before getting stuck into him will ya?

I thought he was okay yesterday - compare this to the 2006 Rising Star Danyle Pearce who managed to get the ball, sprint away from his man and hit a Carlton jumper on the chest every time without fail. Shocking disposal.

I really think Carazoo will never be a elite player, but a good honest player who gets the ball a lot,but just hasn't got that polish skills. It's not a bad thing as long you have elite players coming through.

If he was the best midfielder in our team in 3 years time,we will never win a flag.

Some will say but he won the best and fairest, well yeah someone had to and most likely a midfielder Simpson,Scotland or him.

I would think Murphy,Gibbs,Judd would have to be the best 3 in 2-3 years time for us to have a chance.

I would think so,he has had like several operations, can't just lose weight in a very short time.It will probably do more harm losing it to quick.

Wiggo was injured during Fridays training session and because of the size of the squad (8 interchange) they didn't take an extra emergency. Wiggo was in the selected side but had no game time.

Simmo was in the CFC dugout during the match and in the rooms at half time and after the game.

Not to be too pedantic, but it wasn't 36C.

It was 31C at the start of the game, with a nice cool sea breeze blowing.

The temperature dropped markedly at the start of the second quarter to around 26C.

It really was quite a pleasant evening.

Mind you, I was sitting in the shade, not running around a footy oval.
