Glad we got rid of that spineless poonce.
Did you see him yesterday...outside player...nothing more, nothing less.

When the engine was closed off at Qtr time he died out of the game.
He doesnt get dirty and doesnt get his own ball.
Thats why Ratts played him in the VFL...development! Grigg wanted easy street and went to Ninethmond.

What a wasted pick 19  He cost us ...the prick

#20 = Hislop #21 = Urquhart #22 = Proud
Of course there were players after that but the ball-park was pretty ordinary.

I've haven't shed a tear for Grigg and wouldn't do so irrespective of how his career may go at Richmond or anywhere else for that matter.
Our Richmond counterparts are also turning on Grigg. I wonder why?

Crying for Grigg is not the point, we failed to monopolise on the situation which is all too familiar.

Monopolise? Do you mean capitalize?

It didn't work out great for us.
Should have we done better? Could have we done better? How so?

Still, we would have been better served to seek a draft selection. Richmond would have valued him enough to eventually give up a reasonable draft pick.

We tried, but Richmond held the power with the PSD threat.

Same happened to Essendon* with Houli. Best offer they got was #46 which the Bombers knocked back.

Richmond were on record saying they would trade for 1, and take the other for nothing.

Without being privvy to all the negotiations, in hindsight we may have been better off calling the bluff, accepting nothing, and hoping they'd have blinked last minute....

We had no power to ask for anything, with the possible exception of a JR'esque trade.

Correct, as I recall "the spineless poonce" told us before he went on holidays that he would sign with us and whilst he was sunning himself in Phuket got his manager to tell us he was taking the cash at Richmond, we didn't have much room to manoeuvre, I guess we felt that Andy Collins was a better risk than a speculative pick at around 70 where knowing our track record we would have chosen a Raso, Tiller or Kerr (total of AFL Games = zero).

Probably, I was tired, if I recall. I already said we could have done better, we handled the situation poorly.

Still, "our track record" is at least partially in our hands. We should have called their bluff, we blink too easily and people who think that's not part of what makes our list management sub-par is not following the plot.

I guess we figured Collins was better than the zero we would have got if Grigg walked into the draft as an uncontracted player.

Some people or clubs never learn. Here's a question, were did the last lot of early draft picks get us?
I guess if you keep rebuilding, sooner or later you might just strike it lucky with a couple of gems.

What do you suggest, Surrey? Admit that we got it wrong but try our best with the 'rubbish' we have, regardless? I think you have grasped the wrong end of the stick. We never did 'rebuild' the first time around. We need a genuine rebuild and a change in attitude, not just one or the other.

Surrey all the good sides are built on drafting not teading

Tippett
Shaw
Richards
Kennedy
McVeigh
Morton
Everitt
Walsh
Mumford

All current listed Swans senior players and all traded from other clubs. 9 out of 40
So much for that argument.

BS,

I presume you mean McGlyn not McVeigh.

No. I meant McVeigh. I thought he went there from Essendon*. Must be wrong.

McVeigh is one of their very few top ten picks IIRC.

Weren't things strained between SOS and the CFC?.....or am I imagining I heard that?

I recall that he was a CFC Director around 2003.....and heard nothing after that.

You're thinking of Dannii Minogue.

Why do you say that? I think most people know the current SOS CFC story.

SOS CFC? Is this some sort of thing you do on a graphics calculator, like 8008135 or 54377?

I think we all know that Laidler, Duigan, Davies and Joseph are going to be cut. And Mitchell as well, since he's now playing for our 3rds.

Having seen the VFL today, I'd be very surprised if Ellard, ROK and Dale stay on the list. And Temay's probably lucky to have another year on his contract.

So that's 7 changes at least.
