Is Cody Walker a good kick?

Not sure on accuracy but can kick 50m goals already.
Vic Country vs Vic Metro June 10 2024

Quote:
#8 Cody Walker (Bendigo Pioneers)
Midfielder | 183cm | 26/01/2008
Stats: 28 disposals, 7 inside 50s, 2 goals
Carlton fans were rejoicing on Saturday as their 2026 father-son prospect turned in a best afield performance. The son of 202-game Blue, Andrew booted two of the first three goals of the game, backing himself from long-range to sink a pair of 50-metre bombs. Walker’s power and athleticism were the main event though, as he crashed and bashed at the contest, but also glided across the turf with smart and hard running on the spread. He has dual eligibility as a Richmond NGA product.

There might’ve been a window where we’d become a player in Free Agency, but it closed with Smith.

Both he & Walker are blue chip draftees whose first extension, never mind first deal, will be done while those big contracts are still on the books.

Not sure what FA has to do with the picks we used on Smith, or even Smith alone.

Given the lack of Draft Assets to Trade, our best chance to get quality, will be FA. Not sure we you think we can't, if I'm reading you right.

Smith's first extension starts 2028, and Cody's will be 2029. A lot of water to go under the bridge by then.

As mentioned at the end of this year, we have 14 players, or $5.6M freed up from those contracts.

I think we will sign up DeKoning for $1.1M, and we will still have $2M saved from Gov, Haynes, Doc, Fantasia, Evans, and a couple kids.
In 2026 contracts that free up salary space include Williams, Saad, Fogarty, Young, Durdin ( that's $2M freed up), and who knows if Cowan stays or heads to Tassie.
In 2027, contracts that free up salary space include Acres, Pittonet, Cottrell and Cripps (or $ 2M).

A lot of 'dead' money freed, a lot of stars at the end of their journey by the time Smith and Walker's first extensions happen from my evaluation

I had to do a double take when I saw Lobbe there. There's seriously players on there I can't even recall

You've done some good homework keogh.
Love an argument with a good body of supporting evidence, rather than bias snapshots some do.

Back in 2002 when we hit rock bottom and had 3 years of high draft picks taken away by Evans and Demetriou, I held the same thoughts as you re lower leagues. I still do. They are there.

I have highlighted the players I was keen on at the time. I'm only an onlooker. Suffice to say, we need serious scouts in those leagues, moreso now that ever.

That's the similarity between me and you. But don't think its the be all to end all like you do, because I see a lot that's been fixed since 2002.

Recruiting scouts in VFL WAFL SAFL is just a component that needs attention; a gap. We can't be too serious about the VFL till recent years when we lost Lambert from under our nose

We missed out on Lambert in 2012, 2013, and 2015 before Tigers got him as a rookie in 2015. Still irks me, but like I said, its not the end of the world.

There's a few VFL players there. Like most recruits/ drafts, they didnt work out.

There's a pile of GWS duds. We trusted SOS too much. Wasted opportunity. Don't pile on the club and Austin over SOS. Had the problem attracting players to the club.

Underlined players were recruited when Carlton wasn't a destination club and we had to spend a minimum 95% of our cap. Those blokes were an anomoly.

Like I said, there's mistakes and there's good reason to recruit such as the ones you constantly go on about underlined. We couldnt front load all of Crippas contracts any more than we did. Do you understand that? Not many do, so its OK.

I'm glad to see you haven't also added Cerra and Saad to your shit list. Not sure what problem with you had with jeff garlett as a rookie.

Mistakes every where. Everyone makes them. Even you. eg McAdam and Kreuger

There's no guarantees every draft will work out, but, I agree, there's plenty of Diamonds there too.

I think you need to wait till the end of the year before you judge Austin's 5 year tenure. There's something brewing there. Got a hunch.

Wrong EDIT....you're right. There was a Garlett from WAFL, ex GWS

Drove all the way over from WA and slept in his car, hoping to get seen in a lower league

was at Swans Districts.

Makes the choice look twice as bad.

I agree. I wanted McMahon, White from our VFL team, and Carroll the Sandy Dragon re rookied

Geelong are very good at it
Lawson Humpries recruitment is very interesting
He was in West Coasts Academy but was overlooked by them
Don't know him personally but Geelong do have a talent scout who overseas the WAFL
Humpries was playing reserves for Swan Districts so he would qualify for finals
The senior team was going shit
How West Coast passed him up is [REDACTED]
The guy reads it well makes great decisions and his disposal on both sides is top notch
And he went around 60
The point I am making here is it’s clear Carlton overlook this area of recruiting
Vince on The Jumper Punch made an observation that during Sayer’S so called review in 2021 the footy department was actually ignored
It was to get rid of Teague and Liddle

Blind Freddy could see we need to change our thinking to improve our depth
It’s been shit for years
I hope White can show the recruiters something

Wrong

Drove all the way over from WA and slept in his car, hoping to get seen in a lower league

was at Swans Districts.

Now you're looking for targets...he was great value.

Nothing to do with GCS. Garlett came to Carlton a coupla years before GCS played a game. Mmmmmmmmmmmmm

Or is he talking about Jarrod Garlett?

That’s him
Played for GC then went back to the WAFL
Played for South Freo
Of course forgot to mention in the list above
Tim Kelly came directly from South Fremantle to Geelong for pick 24
There’s another one

Keogh, for the record how many of those players did you see play more than a single game live, prior to them being recruited?
