Major risk bringing in Williams
Expect they'll play through his man

That's good.
He wont have to look for the ball.

Risk vs Reward.

With Newman and Boyd out, Williams will be a great help for Saad, if Doc is needed in the midfield (like very much).

That leaves Stocker, Newnes to take the 7th defender.

I'd prefer Williams to either of these 2 players for this game. He's quicker, more nimble and more skilfull than Newnes and Stocker.

Pittonet against Melbourne looked terrible. He was slow and cumbersome. Gawn gave him a bath. It wasn't just that last kick from Owies. His disposal was woeful all night. There were several instances in the second quarter where he fluffed it up. Yeah, he can tackle, but I would rather someone that did something with the ball not without it. Newnes is unlucky. I would rather have Williams in though.

B: Saad, Young, McGovern
HB: Marchbank, Weitering, Williams
C: Cottrell, Cripps, O'Brien
HF: Martin, Curnow, Fisher
F: Silvagni, McKay, Durdin
Foll: de Koning, Docherty, Walsh
Int: Setterfield, Cerra, Motlop, Stocker
Emerg: Pittonet, Owies, Newnes, Dow

Pittonet ran out of puff in the last, but I thought he did really well vs Jackson and Gawn, playing a collision game.
Gawn is the best ruck in the game, and Pitto won his fair share of the ruck. Nearly 30 HO's. TDK doesnt get near those numbers against weaker rucks let alone the best in the business.

Did you see TDK against Brizzy? WE missed Pitto badly.
Did you see TDK in the VFL last week? He might be puffed after the first playing against Cox.
TDK looked like he needed the rest, and the MC saw it that way too for good reason.

Rnd 10 vs Coll, Pitto didn't play and Cox and Cameron demolished TDK & SOS.

Pitto's combative physical style is the best we have in the ruck, and we missed him badly during his absence.
He's getting better by the week and building for Finals. We don't have anyone stronger and more capable than him.

25yo Owies >>> Motlop 19yo & Durdin 20yo in a Finals like game.
Motlop & Durdin are the future though.

At his best maybe but coming in after so long I think the risk is high and the reward uncertain.

Maybe to replace Marchbank who we are carrying already since his return, if the matchups allow for it

Apparently Hewett is training with the main group.

So Hewett will train fully for a 2nd consecutive week but still 2 weeks away.
Lucky we have the best fitness guru in the world.
Just put him in for gods sake

“Carlton remains confident Adam Cerra will be fit for Sunday, despite training away from the main group today. He was then restricted to light duties in the first main session of the week, but club officials are hopeful he will resume full loads in coming days.”
·
“Sam Docherty & Jacob Weitering were among a handful of players to also train away from the main group, although neither is considered in doubt. Zac Williams & George Hewett trained fully with the main group. Hewett is almost certain to miss Sunday's game.”
·
“An additional week's rest courtesy of the pre-finals bye is considered crucial to Hewett's hopes of playing again this season. Jordan Boyd (foot) & Nic Newman (knee) are also a chance to return should Carlton qualify for September.”

I don't even know if Williams is fit for selection, but if he is, the MC will be judge of that. He may not be at his best.

I thought Marchbank did really well to close down Fritsch and keep him to 4 disposals and one goal.

I've also heard from some fans that they thought Marchbank played on Melksham. I saw Melksham win the ball twice when Gov was on him.

That's really great news, and more reason for wins by Blues in the AFL & VFL.

George Hewett also continued his return from an ongoing back problem, training fully with the main group for a second successive week. While the onballer is almost certain to miss Sunday's game, he could play finals if the Blues qualify.

An additional week's rest courtesy of the pre-finals bye is considered crucial to Hewett's hopes of playing again this season, with the star contested ball and clearance winner missing Carlton's past four matches with his back injury.

Wiki says the GF is slated for 18th, so they’ll have to.

Is there a qualification rule? Surely we can’t stack the 2s if we need to give blokes a run before an elimination final?

Williams is inconsistent and aerobically challenged as it is during a regular season, just ain’t a goer for a full game of footy , hasn’t played for 4 months and we want to throw him into a high stakes , intense and rigorous game .? Pies will pressurize relentlessly.
Can’t see it , I may be wrong, perhaps medi sub ?
Stocker is my choice as a defender, with personal available, the lad has his own fitness and endurance issues no doubt but given the enormous occasion and significance of this epic battle, he may just break out and surprise us all, he is part of the future.
