Why can't they just cut Kreuzer from the list until he's ready? Not just injury wise, but also give him some time is the 2nds to get him 110%.

I thought the same last year and came to the conclusion that Kruezer unfit and on one leg is better than a fit Rowe or Casbolt. We have no depth.

FFS Richie....!!
Kreuzer too???

Judd was never going to make it back by Round 3. Anyone who has had an achilles injury >30yrs would know this.
Kreuzer - make or break year. not starting well, if he can't play tonight.
And we have a window of max three games before Waite gets injured/suspended...

Normally, I wait until Round 5 or 6 to determine how we'll go.
This year, my deadline is Round 3 and benchmark is 2/3 wins. 1 match in and we have to beat Richmond and Essendung.

Simply, we beat Richmond and it is game on.
We lose, and it won't matter what happens - we'll know we cannot compete with the big boys and the rebuild begins.

Having said that, I think we will win and prove the doubters wrong.
We will come out and kick the first three goals. Richmond will come back once and then, in the third quarter we'll kick away and win >5 goals.

(And then, we'll beat Ess next week too!)

Hopefully last week did Hendo, Thomas and Kruezer a heap of good. They were clearly struggling fitness wise.

Don't like the idea of two rucks, but Richmond are doing it with Vickery and Hampson so hopefully this week Kruezer can really get a decent run into the legs without being as much as a liability.

Buckley and White are my guesses for the ins.

Looking forward to adding Judd, Carrots and even Docherty to the midfield rotations. Garlett for sub. Take of a ruck in the last.

If we that sore, we should take a risk at selection and bring in kids who can run: buckley, graham, holman, cripps, white.
It sounds to me that this is an appropriate week to throw the kids in, given the mature guys are sore.

Vickery is being played as a Key Forward. He may take a ruck contest deep in the forward 50 and that is it. He is not the 2nd ruckmen.

Hammer is their main man and would be supported by Griffiths.

I'm optimistic that we can continue to ascend after a couple of years of mediocrity. And we should prove this tomorrow night!

However, if we can't beat at least two of Port Adelaide, Richmond and Essendon* with three no.1 draft picks, >10 round one draftees, MM as coach for over a year and most players >50 games experience then we have to face it that this mob is unlikely to be up to the challenge in the next few years as we lose Judd, Carrots, Scotland, Waite and Murphy/Gibbs/Kruezer move from their prime to mid-late career.
We will then be relying more on Yarran, Menzel, Cripps, Henderson... + Docherty, new draftees etc...

The next three years we have a window but only if we can compete NOW and consistently with top eight teams. If we can't, we won't be able to ascend to the top within the next three years against the rapid progress of the expansion teams.

Therefore, if we can't beat Richmond, I say we need to look beyond five years when we will be able to ascend again... IF we are planning for that from now (ie. Sell a couple of premium draftees now for high draft picks in coming years; invest in top recruitment and development teams...)

It's unfathomable how the powers that be at this club thought this list would take us to a flag.

Has left us in our worst position (list wise) since our draft sanctions.

..I don't agree with that, we have a finals side, possibly a top four (though perhaps just fourth which some years isn't much) if some of our players 'got it'.. ..as it is, it's more development (football skills and understanding and work ethic, as it is mental toughness and honest determination) than it is actual list build, which yes ought to be in better balance but plenty more is dormant in the list, it's just too many expect others to do it for them..

I just don't have such an optimistic view regarding our current assets.

We did have a window 2-3 years ago. When we made a finals run, since then topping up our list, poor draft choices, players not coming on and our quality players ageing has left our cupboards bare.

I see a lean 5-7 years for these blues. Floundering 8th-13th unless we are able to fix our drafting and development processes, which even then, would we start to gain momentum again.

..our chance to pinch a flag with Judd was lost when fev went fevastinko.. ..2011 gets talked up, and was our best season in about a decade, but we were still miles off being a flag contender.. ..incapable of more than three consecutive wins and two and a half games adrift of top four tells me that we weren't nearly good enough to challenge.. ..haven't been close since..

Kreuzer and Simpson training away from group. Kreuze doesn't exactly look a picture of health. MM not convincing over his availability either

Interesting. Going for maturity [Lucas] over youth [Buckley]. White ~ McInnes.

Looking forward to it with terror.

Our def is a major worry that we are brining in White who I think missed all the pre-season games? At least in Ballarat he was in the 2s. Watching NB last week.....we have zero depth in def......as well as all other areas it seems!!!
