I thought the plan was to get 4 points,

Just like port's plan

At some point you have to call a spade a spade.

Players slowing to a walk against a team full of run. We didn't stand a chance after the 10 minute of the final quarter. Why not take a bit of a hit for the sake of better fitness across the team !

Hopefullly it pays off and we get the next 8 points up for grabs.

But we went to Arizona

The cats go to castlemaine by the way

The players that didn't go to Arizona or were only there for a short time really shouldn't have been picked.

like I said, the cats go to places such as Castelmaine and Lorne...

Season is shot. For anyone who wants to dispute it, I'll happily debate it late August.

Can't argue with a very very strong gut feeling.

Actually I think I'm having one now. Gotta go sorry.

I am sure if they had a bunch of players who didnt go to Castlemaine and missed half the pre season due to injury or operations they wouldnt go ahead and pick them.

Port power changed it in 1 pre season.

If I recall correctly port was broke, and couldn't win at home. Total basket case.

One training session with hinkley and the players changed attitude, worked hard and had hope. Hinkley asked the players to repeat their first 5km run, because they just went through the motions. He told them he didn't like that attitude, and attitude starts at training.

Ironically, it was the same week that carlton started its pre season under Mick (nov 2012). But as we all know mick was on a book promotional tour with his daughter and so The great Robert Wiley was at the helm.

That's were we are at as a club. Top to bottom mediocrity and unimaginative weak leadership throughout. You only need to look at swans executive decisions to see this in its grandeur

Easier to do if you have a list that is young with talent.... ours is a very old list with very limited young talent (Menzel/Cripps)...
We were carved up by seriously talented midfielders in their second, third and fourth years... we have no midfielders in that age group* let alone talented ones...

*only Graham fits that criteria but he isn't going to make it (at least not in a big way)...

the stats were fairly even until the last 15 minutes.

The only lob sided stats were the 1%ers - tackles, blocks, hard running for the team etc... and they went Port's way....

That was a winnable game, we even got ourselves back in front after Port were on top in that 3rd term.

Tactically we were predictable even though the tactics worked well early - Port were very poor in that first quarter.

Were you happy with our 1%ers against Port?

Where did I mention 1%ers? I was bemoaning the lack of young players on our list, specifically midfielders... and even when Port were a basket case there list management, drafting and recruiting etc was still excellent (and miles ahead of us)... once everything else was put in place i.e. administration, coaching, well, their list hasn't held them back. Our list is flowered..

Name our seriously talented midfielders in their second (Wines), third (Wingard) and fourth (Polec) years.

Name one decent key position player (forward or back) we have drafted in the National Draft this century (not counting father/sons)...

you wont get an argument from me concerning our pathetic recruiting and development record over the past decade or so....

But what has 1%ers got to do with youth in the team???

the basics of the game are non negotiable to everyone who puts on a carlton jumper and runs out onto the field.

That's where everything starts.....on the field and during training etc.,

Nobody can shy away from the fact that Port Power were a basket case, on and off the field in 2012 and in one pre season under Hinkley they transformed themselves into a competitive outfit that works well as a team.

That's all I ask from the Blues - the win/loss ratio will take care of itself.

The next couple of moths of football will determine whether Mick has the fire in the belly and whether most of the players on this list have anything at all in their bellies.

Again.. Port didnt just change their coach.
I seriously dont get the fixation with trying to compare us with Port on the back of coaching change.
they changed everybody... !!! Not just the coach... and they had been quietly drafting mids for a few years when we drafted hbfers.

Youre comparing apples with oranges ... or bananas .. doesnt make any sense to keep using Port as your control case.. when their situation is very different to ours.
Theyre only going to get better and better too...

They have talent. Dont compare us to Port.. they have some serious talent.. compare us to the 1% kings from Arden street.

Doesnt mean they going to set the world on fire.. but they will do all those little things we dont.
But then again they have recruited better....

I know what youre saying, but how does our list under Ratts go from quality to crap in one pre season when Mick returned from his book tour?

Cant happen in 6 months

It can go the other way, SEE Essendon* re: Thymosin beta4, Hexaerlin, AOD, Muscular dystrophy agents, Large Mexicana extra cheese, Brain powder etc

All I am saying is old Book Tours picked underdone players. In the last ten minutes of the game he realised he was not going to get the win because of this. It was obvious to everyone we were cooked.
So he used the last 10 minutes to push the underdone players in a bid to get them match hardened. That is why the interchange count was down in the last.

Nothing to do with where teams trained in the preseason or the classic "once crossed the white line" line.
