Feb 15th folks. Couldn't care less how many kicks some of our prime movers get about now as long as they don't get injured.

Nab cup is about the rest fighting for the final 4 or 5 spots for round 1. Bell and Ellard put a hand up. Boots did some okay stuff. Wood did very well against stiff opposition.

When all are fit we might have some solid depth.

Regards Cazzesman

I agree Cazz....we did what we had to do; and some players took the chance to show what they've got.....some didn't; but they'll get another chance perhaps.

Didn't see the game - could only follow the scores and commentary on the AFL site.
Great to see positive reporting here on several new and fringe players. Bell, Ellard, Menzel.
Was worried towards the end that the old GLASS JAW had emerged. I could only see 2 behind to 4 goals until Wood kicked the effective winner.
Just an observation:
When you field so many kids and newbies it demands a lot more from the leaders you actually have on the field to hold it together against the last quarter flow.
Stats seem to indicate that Brock was the most effective leader on field today.
Some good "Ins" for round one, hopefully.

Practice game.

Wait until we are on the MCG again.

Tackling has lifted significantly across the group.

Players look bigger than previous years.

Cripps will be a big unit in a couple of years.

Buckley May have found a spot, speed and tackling we're good to see.

Watto to will make it

Zach's second super goal in two games

The most by a Blues is 3 by Murp, Fev and the great Callum Chambers

Crips showed a lot in the last 5 minutes when the heat was on (only the NAB but the intensity lifted) - he has the habit of finding players with disposals, knock ons etc.

Watto really good, and that desperate act last couple of minutes was superb. Tipping he's about to justify his relatively high draft pick.

Gibbs solid and Murph cruised really. Menzel looks like Campo, but slower - that's not a bad thing, he's still a gun.

Yarran cruised even more than Murph. Waite cruised more than Murph and Yazz combined.

Watched bits and pieces...loved the centre clearance work, the set plays from kick-outs and Belly's game...but other than that it was a February game of footy...very scratchy stuff. I'd give Bell a spell next game. Doubt he needs the run tbh.

Yeah but Doc, it's not is much about Bell's fitness... It's about the punishment he dishes out. Some of those North boys will know they've played a game. :smoking:

That was ok........

what's everyone whinging about.....?

players missing......players stepping up.....
so they came back......they didn't win....because
we'd got so far in front......!

Cripps is a little rippa.......Menzel's class.......
Kenny Enimarr showed why we've wanted him
for 3 seasons.......Wood wasn't POX......!

so if you say to yourself....."yeah but that's about
all there is".....?

well how'd we play so well to get that far in front......?

yeah.......wasn't too bad......!

kindest regards tommi

I'm in the same situation as Doc and only saw bits and pieces.

Most of us around here are old enough to know not to read too much into pre-season games. So my fairly minor take outs from the game:

Cripps looks like he knows how to read the play
Menzel is a talent
Murph didn't get out of first gear - and I'd argue he shouldn't have to in mid February
Wood has the potential to be handy back up
Robbo won't change

Not much point in reading heaps else into it. I've coronated February champions before (Brad Pearce I got right, Ian Prendergast I got wrong), marked us down for September footy (2005), and written off opposition (Essendon* in 93). In the end, the best you can do out of February is not get injuries. On that score, I understand that today is a success. Tally Ho!

Why are we bagging Robbo? Did you watch the game? He attacked everything in site.

Some kicking astray, but more than made up for it in other areas.

Yep.

Considering the time of year, I thought it was a good quality performance.

People have already discussed Menzel, Everett etc, but I was also impressed by some of Cachia's work. He seems to have presence of mind when the heat's on and adds significant depth to our mid-field.

My observations:

Liked the positioning and structures around the ground. Think sides will find it hard to score against us this year.
Depth & flexibility giving us options
Bell was fantastic. The type we need. Everitt a plus.
Ellard, Cachia, McLean, Graham, Curnow give us ball winning grunt.
Menzel has improved more than I hoped in terms of endurance.
Buckley playing where he needs to. He's a chance.
Yarran is best off half back. Follows a player to the ball and then runs off.
Liked Casboult & Watson. When Hendo is back I prefer Waite in defence with the odd run up forward.
Cripps awarenss and ball winning in close is impressive. Looks like he needs another pre season to me.
Finally Rowe gets a run in defence but needs more time in role.

Have to fit in Henderson, Judd, Simmo, Carrots, Jamison, Docherty, Thomas, Scotland, Kruezer to our best side.

It is February and it is a practice match but a lot of positives moving forward IMHO.
