I'm confused. All these people saying it's a done deal I can't find out any such thing. I'm told we haven't spoken to him and will only do so if deal falls through with Collingwood. He has had one genuine offer. Freo.

Shit I hope I'm right. :yikes:

They can have swann, malthouse and cloke. But I'd happily swap presidents.

If thats the case, how the hell could we afford that unless half the list take big long term pay cuts.
I suppose Judd's deal would ve been massively front loaded so that d leave some room.
Agree though about Eddie hating this, but that just makes me want this to be true even more lol..

Offload a bit of fat. Scotland, Jamison, Warnock/Hampson, Russ and pay cuts. That is the only way i see it working.

That's not what I would call 'working'.

Scotland on a reduced deal, Jamison, and I wouldn't be looking to make much in the way of pay cuts.

Hi guys.

I seriously cannot see why Cloke would not remain at Collingwood. I mean, really there is little evidence to suggest otherwise.

Cloke has said that he wants to remain at Collingwood and it is the club that has put off contract negotiaions and not Cloke.

I think at the end of the day we are being used as pawns by the Cloke's to eek out the best deal possible at Collingwood.

I know it was only against Essendon* but he played an actual decent game on the weekend. No Dawes either.

Perhaps the Suns game the week prior helped him make up his mind...

To put it into perspective, Waite and Casboult also played good game against Essendon*. Essendon* defence are not real world beaters at the moment

I read that too last night, Blueinblood is usually pretty good with their info. Another poster said that our game against GC was the decider for him. Cant blame him. If he does stay i wonder if another club president will question how Collingwood could possibly keep all these players under the salary cap like Ed did with us?

Surely now that they have signed all their other guns there is no room left in their salary cap?

Can't see how they could squeeze him in.

We will be a far better team with cloke in our lineup but 5 years is a bit much on big bucks.

On the plus side we wouldnt lose a pick to get him so we can still draft for tomorrow. We might have to lose Warnock/Hampson, Russ and i would trade Jamo for more picks in the 20-30 range. Free up some salary cap.

I would probably do that anyway.

A line up something like this does look pretty strong.

Yazz Hendo Touhy
Duigan Laidler Gibbs
Walker Brock Simpson
Murphy Waite Robbo
Betts CLOKE Hampson/Casboult

Kruezer Judd Carrazzo

INT From Armfield Curnow Bell Collins Garlett Rok Bootsma

Still our goal kicking will kill us.

You would think as the Pies have signed up all their guns the cash cupboard would be alot emptier now than when they first put the offer to Cloke :?
Anyways, of course it won't be asked how can The Pies fit Cloke in under the salary cap now if he does decide to stay there-2 and 2 just don't add up!!
I still think MM will want to get a BIG fish to the Blues for next year he'll want quick success and not look stupid. The ole "grey eagle" is super competetive as we all know

I think Cloke will stay at Collingwood (no info, just what I reckon).

However, it's worth noting that Cloke has had by most people's reckoning, a pretty average year. Many people are suggesting his value has gone down, whether or not that is reflected in his next contract. And yet, he's kicked 50 goals.

Add Cloke and his 50 goals in an average year to our forward line, alongside Walker (50 goals last year and was pushing All Australian), Betts (ditto), Garlett, Waite...Cloke and his 50 goals makes us a serious flag contender.

Cloke is at way overs IMO.

Regardless of need to improve our forward set up he is not enough of a champion to command the level of long term investment being bandied about.

Who knows, next year another better player could become available under the free trade rules. Or the year after. We are not good enough across the board to make this level of forward investment commitment on the first player who roughly meets selection criteria.

Hopefully we are using this soap opera as a smokescreen to hunt out one or more far more advantageous trades. I.e. under the radar.

Not against trading down our early picks this year if deals can be done to get a couple of good players who can get the ball and hit their targets. Preferably without committing the club to missing out on any chance over the next few years when a real gun plays the free agency card.

Big pre-season coming up for our wannabee forwards. Several young blokes got their chance to play late in the season and several others have had crap years through injury or illness. I find it difficult to believe that they won't all be motivated to work on aspects of their game that needs it, and guess that one or two could improve fairly significantly next year.

If motivated to gamble I'd wager on Henderson moving to the next level, but Casboult and Mitchell both look to have plenty of upside and one of them could surprise.

Would rather spend money and picks on blokes who can both deliver the ball to our emerging forwards and kick straight for goal themselves when necessary.

As I have posted elsewhere get a key back such as Chaplin from Port for half the price of Cloke. Fills a more pressing need and no 5 years.
