Predicted to be wet & windy on Sunday, making Port's biggest dangers up forward Gray, Motlop & Ebert - if Ebert gets a game. Gray and Motlop are very clever & skillful, but bone dead lazy, so running off them at every opportunity will be important. Congratulations to Zac for getting a well deserved call up & good to see Curnow back - if he lines up. I have a feeling that they may give him another week off though, so have named Hoola.
Port's midfield has been unaccountable all year and apart from whoever tags Judd, the rest will chase kicks but give up pretty quickly when we have the ball, especially if we exert some early score board pressure.

Curnow's in the starting line-up, so won't get axed.

If Curnow is fit there's no reason why you'd leave him out another week. The lad was on fire prior to getting injured and is easily in our starting squad.

Fair dinkum if we don't win by 6 goals plus even in sleet and snow then it'll be disappointing.

Having said that I'll take the 4 points regardless.

Why would it mean that ? It could possibly be he went early to see family as he is playing there anyway.

They are leaving to go to SA today. He does not need to train everyday, probably just resting.

Yes, I checked out of Crowne Plaza this morning. Lady on the desk who is a Power supporter said the boys were checking in today.

Will be back in ADL on Mon for work, so won't get to the game unfortunately. Would be good, Sturt are playing Port in the warm-up game

If Russell plays, it should make for a good excuse to toss him into midfield. That said, Tuohy's inclusion is more suggestive that he's going to miss. If that's the case, I would prefer Houlihan to come in and start, with Ellard being the sub.

Really like that defence. Not a weakness anymore!

Try and fit Bower, Laidler, Lucas, Austin, Watson, McCarthy, Russell, Armfield into that 6.

You would think if Bower gets his $hit together soon he'll come in for Thornton.

If you are named in the starting lineup ie not an interchange or emergency. Does that mean you are guaranteed to play and or must play?

I have no idea who flew over but I suspect if JR was named he will play.

If JR does play then possibly Ellard is the Sub. Zach will certainly step out for his 1st game. I think Houls will stay home to get a full game in the VFL and AJ might go as the emergency.

But I'm just guessing.

What has Austin done to be included in that list?

Some of you guys are biased and ordinary. Austin IS a Carlton listed player and is generally considered a key defender and as such is fighting like a number of other players for a spot in our back six. We can also include Dare, McInnes, O'Keefe, Davies, AJ and White as well.

My point was and still is what was perceived as a weakness 6 months ago has now depth and talent and is now able to match any forward line in the comp.

I agree. What is interesting now is the trend to start having a more mobile defence to combat the 'forward press'. I thought we looked good when we had just Jamo and Laidler as our primary defenders. Allowed us to play Duigan, Yarran, Armfield, Scotland as runners to help break up the zone. I thought we looked much more dangerous when this happened.

Look at our list now we have an abundance of players that can play 'tall' in the back six. We are covered for the next 10 plus years!

Be interesting at this years draft. We have ruckman and we have key defenders and when all fit we have key forwards. Do we trade for more mids?

Nice problems to have!

I love when the opposition look at our defence and then think they can outsize us and throw an extra tall into their line up to "stretch us". I reckon that plays into our hands and gives us an extra running player to add to the already extra runner we have playing Walker as second tall forward. I think we get more advantage with that than they do the extra 1 or 2 goals this extra tall "might" kick by being big.

We are all set as far as i can see. Its just a matter of refining the gameplan, keeping the right mix of runners and talls, becoming cleaner in our ball use and being efficient in out attacks.

Just a few more pieces of the puzzle to go. Goddard, Wells, Rich, Gysberts, Chapman and Kennedy. Then we're set!

Funny how people see things differently. I was looking at that defense and I was more than a bit disturbed by the lack oh height. I know laidler's not a tall but he plays like one. I hope we don't have to rely on Thornton to take a key tall because that's not his go.
