Houla's a seagull.

A big positive is that Murph WILL make amends following that performance last night.

Deano's correct about Brogan dominating early but gee Hammer has enormous potential. Would love to know his actual height now.

Pfeiff look very steady and linked up nicely.

The more ground time Edwards & Armfield have the quicker they will settle.

Waitey did more good things than bad things :-D

Lots of improvement needed but the youngsters are getting gametime which is great.

Correct. Probably would get a game in almost every side in the comp (bar 1 or 2).

Correct.

IN50's last night were as embarrassing as they were last year. Bombs away to fev versus the rest. Early days though, give ratts time

People laying into Carazzo for his disposal need to realise that he is a work in progress. Two years ago he was woeful. Last year he played with more confidence and was on the whole very good.

I think he is one of those players who's skills run according to form & confidence. Give him a few weeks into the real season before getting stuck into him will ya?

I thought he was okay yesterday - compare this to the 2006 Rising Star Danyle Pearce who managed to get the ball, sprint away from his man and hit a Carlton jumper on the chest every time without fail. Shocking disposal.

Here is what i got out of the game:

Dissappointments:
-Murph had a shocker but im sure will bounce back 8)
-Still kicking it to a player up against 3 opposition. Most of the time fev, but i remember waite kicked out of full back to betts who was covered by 3 guys twice his size. There were many.
-probably over used the handballs alot, passing to people with opponents right on their asses. Some occasions you need to just kick it. Probably due to not enough talk.
-Decision making was poor at times, some resulting in goals
-Port demolished us from the clearances without Lade and Kane Cornes.
-Saddington, its time to give up on him.

Excited:
-Pfieffer, played well and am sure will get a game majority of the time. :-D
-Edwards showed promise, Jamo played well and Hammer.
-Alot of intensity, aggression around the ball.
-Simmo, Carrots & Heath continued on from last season.
-Waite showed why they need him down back.
-T-bird showed he is versitile.
-Good to know we have Judd, Walks, Setanta, Hadley and Ando to come back in.

All in all i think we have showed we are trying new things, most of which looks like will work once it has been fine tuned, The aggression and work rate was the sealer for us i think, Skills need to improve come Round 1, bit sloppy. Alot of youngsters are ready to step up meaning if your off your game, your in the Bullants.

Things are looking Blue in the Horizon.
:-D :-D :-D

Is it just me or was Brogan given an awful lot of leeway with his two-handed shoves in the back at boundary throw-ins?

I wanted to get excited and enjoy the victory, but I was too busy thinking about our inevitable late-regular-season fall-away, and how players like Pfeiffer might not play very well in other games.

Later that night I watched the 93 Grand final which cheered me up a bit

I have to agree Wojee,
It annoyed the crap out of me on a night where the umpires gave us little to complain about.
Bogan gave away a number of frees (4 in the AFL stats).
I think that the umpires got sick of pinging him.
It seemed he could do what he liked in the second half.

I cannot believe no-one mentioned Jacksons and Bowers game.

They, especially Jackson was fantastic. Good skills, poise etc.

For mine, top players were in order:

Pfeiffer
Jackson
Armfield
Hammo
Simmo

I loved Edwards contested marks, especially in the last quarter, it was a nice pressure mark and goal.

How good are Armys second efforts....

Pfeiffer, geez I was impressed with him. I smile when I think of his game, good skills, goes in hard, tackles hard and a good mark.

Jackson, this kid is so mature. Cool under pressure. Reminds me of Paul Meldrum.

There was lot to like last night for sure. They talk about Ports missing players, but we lost so much experience in Lappin, Whitnall and Kouta. How much did we rely on them in tight games in their prime.

Most of our kids have less than 20 games.

Cannot believe some of you continuing to be negative. There was a game against 28 to 28 players and we won for goodness sake.

Yes our skills, decision making and kicking for goal are still crappy, but it can be a combination of the heat, nerves as well.

We have more skilled players now than the last couple of years.

There was a lot to like

An encouraging first-up effort. We would have been killed by a good team at full strength for our skill errors, but what was pleasing was the way nearly all our players worked hard for nearly all of the game.

The performances of Hampson & Pfeiffer were particularly encouraging, but also Bower, Griggs, Jamo, Edwards, Armfield, Kreuzer, Gibbs, Russell, Ellard & Jacko all got involved and I think all would have come away from the ground feeling pretty positive about their contributions.

I think Murph, Fish & Saddo would probably be the only 3 players that would have been a bit disappointed with their games. Although to be fair to Fish, he was probably a bit underdone.

We all know Carrots' kicking is what's holding him back from being an elite player, but he's still a very good player and was BOG for mine last night. Works hard both ways, is tough, and can find the footy better than most. Of the established players, I thought Scotland, Simmo & Houlihan were teriffic.

Waite was good in the 2nd half (after Tredrea went off, that is...), and Fev & Stevo did OK but will both be better for the run. T-Bird looked like he was treating it like a practice match (funny, that...), and enjoyed booting a couple of goals. I find it quite amazing that some people on here bag that guy so much. He's in our best 22, don't worry about that.

Glad the boys had a chance to sing the song after the game and enjoy a victory together....players (and supporters!) need some reward for their effort along the way, in order to strive for greater efforts for greater rewards.....

So let's all keep some perspective.....it's just another small step on what will be a long journey back

QFMFT!

Sure the skills were a little rusty, but FMD, we won! With skill and experience still to come in to the team, too!

Pleasing WIN and interstate too boot.
The boys didn't play well, can play better and will.
Ratten experimenting with the youngsters and most standing up and showing plenty, ie. Jackson, Hampson, Jamison.
Judd, Walker, and Hadley still to come in the 18!
Fevola and Stevens to only get better before round1.
