I've even signed up my wife and she barracks for St Kilda!!!

Andy Maher was talking about Melbourne this morning on SEN. He was questioning whether they were the next team under the crosshairs for the move north given that they have no home and no members. He was barraged by peanuts calling up telling him he was a Melbourne hater, had an anti melbourne agenda, loads of anti carlton stuff etc etc None of the callers answered the fundamental questions he raised. At one point, to a most viscious and determined caller Andy simply asked the bloke:

"are you a member?"

The bloke who had been going rabid at Andy for 10 mins on everything from bias through to salary cap penalties, Dick Pratt price fixing etc answered:

"eh....NO....because I travel with work and dont get to a lot of games!!"

SNAP!!!

Andy then told him how since Carlton has been at the bottom of the ladder we have been setting new membership records almost every year!! Needless to say this caler couldnt see the connection and that is probably why Melbourne are in so much trouble. This bloke seemed to think that since they had Paul McNamee they didnt need members!!

When Carlton is in trouble our people stick together!!!! We're not in line to move anywhere because we have loads of folks that love the club and are prepared to back it up right here at our home in Carlton!!!!

I work occasional weekends and take the kids to weekend sport as well as still play myself, I am lucky if I get to 2 games a year but that hasnt stopped me buying 4 memberships and tipping in to help sponsor a player as well!! I've been doing this for years and it's a small price to pay for the joy I got from something like the 99 prelim or the premiership in 95!

If you want to see the club doing well we all have to do our part, dont be like that melbourne peanut, put you money where your mouth is and buy a membership!!

The commentators were sort of beating around the bush saying that there is journalist in one of the papers on a crusade against Pratt and Swanny said 'lets not beat around the bush, its patrick smith from the Australian' and then he said the AFL ring him whenever theres a story about it and tell him 'its all bullshit'.

Thanks for the updates anfield.

35K+ already is a great result. I know we're aiming for 40K or better, but really, any more members from now on is a bonus.

Great stuff, but I think 40k will be hard, had we won our first 2 games it would be a different story

Carlton Breaks Membership Record

The off-field growth of the Carlton Football Club continues with CEO Greg Swann announcing today that the club has 35,455 members in 2008. This eclipses the previous record membership of 35,431 set last year.

“A record membership is a tremendous result for the club and confirms the outstanding support that the Carlton Football Club receives from such a strong and committed supporter base.

“We are thrilled to have broken the record set last year. We are now looking to be the first Victorian Club to have a membership in excess of 40,000 in 2008. We know this is achievable and believe that with the commitment of supporters who have not yet joined in 2008, Carlton may be in a position to break the record membership for a Victorian Club of 41,128,” Swann said.

This record was set by Collingwood in 2004 and with 6,931 2007 members yet to renew for the 2008 season, the Blues certainly have the opportunity to break this all-time record.

“Carlton’s resurgence off the field since Richard Pratt become President has been incredible with a record membership for the second year in a row. In addition to the growth in membership our corporate support is up around 30% on 2007 and the merchandise sales have increased by over 15 % than for the same period last year,” Swann added.

At Princes Park tomorrow, Wednesday April 2nd, over 600 Captain Carlton Junior Members will participate in a special clinic with a number of Carlton players. The TeleChoice Junior Members clinic will be conducted between 11:00am and 12:30pm with the Carlton team to train at Princes Park at 2:30pm.

To join as a Carlton member in 2008 supporters can contact the Carlton Membership Department on 1300 72 79 81 or join via the official Carlton Website at carltonfc.com.au

What a magnificent effort. Truly remarkable considering what we are going through. I hope we start winning and giving the supporters/members some joy back soon.
