Pickett obviously has the class. Let's see how he handles a bit more attention from the opposition.

I'll be ecstatic if Kreuzer can continue to be serviceable as he was last night.

Weitering will be thanking the gods for Marchbank and Macreadies arrival at Ikon Park.

Sumner will hopefully replace Armfield sooner than later.

Jaksch/Harry Mac hopefully in for Rowe/Casboult ASAP.

if any player is doing clangers in practice games you can be 100% certain they will do the same if not worse during the real thing

rubbish, MF

on what basis is it rubbish?

I thought seeing that Alex Silvagani as drafted as a rookie that he couldn't play seniors in the home and away season unless someone got injured then he gets elevated onto the senior list

Palmer & Smedts have very poor skills. Waste of time. Costly all night.

Hard to argue with that.
Palmer bulked up too much and its costing him now that the game is much quicker.
Smedts is just average at best. Just another soft turn over merchant.
We keep bringing more plodders in when we are trying to turn the list over to improve it.
Really frustrating.

That's why i said sos' retread players are more losses than wins....the club wants to lose by 50 points rather than 100 points if we have pure draftees in their opinion...

I dont agree....if you are the best recruiter like beatson from sydney you will be fine..

What about kerriages miss from 10 m out.?

Hilarious....

You mean where he hit both posts from 10 m out! Lol

They will. They may have just had a bad year last year. Before that they were a gun side.

We need a second ruckman. Casboult will play. Harry McKay might not be quite ready yet, especially to play in the Carlton forward line.

Jaksch forward with Weitering with Casboult the permanent back up ruckman as Phillips is out for quite a while.

I have said it from Day one: What the heck was the point in drafting Smedits? The guy is a proven useless hack whom Geelong has already figured out, hence why they left him out of their team for 2 years and were super excited to trade him!

Such a dumb move from SOS to get him and Palmer... we didn't need to.

I wouldn't be surprised if Geelong actually broke his leg last year so they didn't have to play him. They're smart.

Better effort i thought................Tough gig in the west.Reckon Freo have a pretty good midfield myself................got killed around stoppages again. We just have to try these new kids in the guts and hopefully find one who knows how to get a kick...............for what its worth i thought Alex Silvagni was great.Loved the way he flew the flag right from the first bounce.Attacked the ball and the man from the first minute.Just loved this new found aggression. So old style Carlton. We didnt win the game but we won the fight. For me,thats a starting point and all of a sudden i have regained my enthusiasm.Funny that it took an old time stoush to get me off the couch. Was actually screaming at the telly urging the boys on.Good stuff boys.Never take a backward step,EVER............thats what our club is always about.Wrapt that Bolton has rekindled the ferocity....................for me,the stoush in the west will be the turning point for us.................never been so happy after a loss.

PS.............the fact there are a few kids in there that can actually play helps.Crippa,Weits,Plow,Marchbank are the real deal.............Jack is putrid at the moment but will come good and Pickers might just be that magical player we have been crying out for.And i also like something about Fisher.Something, dont know what, but something.Love a smokey.

I feel the love.

I got a tad excited too.

Alex is a godsend if he keeps up the aggression (which is natural for him) and knows how to play the game

Watched the first, third and fourth quarters.

Happy with the attempts to enter the fifty. Very few long bombs, we were actually looking for the short hit up on the lead. Pity our skills suck, both kicking and marking.

Weitering, Cripps, Docherty, Marchbank and now Pickett represent real talent that I am sure will make it.

We need the next batch of SPS, McKay, Curnow, Polson, Cuningham, Silvagni, Macreadie, Fisher and Le Bois to kick on and form the nucleus of the fourteen selected each week.

Then guys like Plowman, Kerr, Williamson, Byrne and JGM to just be consistent footballers.

The negative was also a positive. White, Thomas, Armfield, Casboult and Rowe were poor but aren't really part of the plan. Going to be frustrating watching them undo others hard work.

Kerridge, Smedts and Palmer are there because our midfield is so poor. We have gone talls first in the rebuild which is right, so we have rubbish discards as our second string. Palmer is there because he is better than pick 126, but that's not a positive. So long as he isn't kept on the list like Ellard for years I'm OK with it. A transitional player between the next two drafts.

Thought Kruezer was good. I hope he enjoys his football and a good string of games.

Ed Curnow, Gibbs and Murphy just getting by last night. Hope they know where the on switch is.

22/66 games in
2 more draft and trade periods to turn over 14 more players.
2019 (yep, it's that far away)

From watching last nights game my conclusion is this, from a 2017 perspective in relation to the rest of the AFL we are seriously bad. Like 90% chance we will finish last unless Brisbane don't improve or someone like Richmond totally implode.

BUT, it isn't all bad. We knew there would be pain in this rebuild, the 6/7 win patch last year inflated expectations too high too soon, we will be lucky to win more than 3-4 this year but will be playing more kids with a future than last year. We didn't last year as they either didn't exist or were injured for lots of it.

I think we will see some awful beltings at times this year but we will also see some really encouraging things from individuals and the team every now and then.

I know Richmond are Richmond but surely even they won't lose to us in round 1

Always enjoy reading your posts mate. Someone who actually understands what the blues are attempting to do. Instead of just paying out on the cannon fodder senior players who are temporary fill ins.

It's all about the 10 or so youngsters coming through. Adding to them, protecting them and building around them

Agree and Smedts packaged up with a future pick upgrade that we sent to GWS for the Marchbank deal. Maybe Geelong would only do the deal if we took Smedts as part of the Touhy deal. So essentially we probably took both Palmer and Smedts as part of the deal to get Pickett and Marchbank for unders
