Just had Pelchen on 'On the Couch' saying what he'd do at Carlton to rebuild the list. Very interesting.

In a nutshell:

- anyone that won't be in our next flag is tradeable (he can't see us being in a position to win one before the early 2020's)
- No free agents before 2018 (said they should complement your list, not be the focus of it)
- need 3 x top 25 picks in the next draft and 5 inside top 50
- same again the following year

We'll have two picks inside the top 25 without doing anything except being a bad football team, so that's a given.

If we're serious we'll be aiming for five inside 30.

Well at least I've got Russia 2018 and Qatar 2022 to look forward to.

He also said our TPP position is 'sensitive'. Said we need to get it back down to 90% by 2017.

Yep. But they're doing exactly what he's saying we should. Being an alleged shit bloke doesn't necessarily make him wrong.

The same guy Dermie said took a lot of credit he didn't really earn at the Hawks, particularly with draft selections.

Look, sounded plausible. Actually had a job interview presentation feel.

It may be the model, but the key is THE SELECTIONS.

God I hope SOS get's this right.

Saw it. He's exactly right and what a lot of people have been saying for a long time.

Stk have a lot of picks. Great.

Yet to see that they'll actually see any success by the end of their "plan".

Not sure why Pelchen gets the credit he does.

Not a popular bloke but does know what he's talking about.

For mine - over the next 2 seasons I"d look to the following

kreuzer - keep unless he gets a long term big money offer (i.e. we are looking at 1st round or end of first round compo)
Ellard, curnow, warnock - dump

Trade if we can get the following or better
murphy - 1st round pick, or promising young player (mitchell/aish)+ change
walker - 2nd round pick
thomas - 2nd round pick
jamison - 3rd round pick

Not a popular bloke but does know what he's talking about.

Which is the broad discussion on constructing a framework for success without any hypothetical challenges that can arise.

does pelchen really know what he's talking about?

seems like he wasn't as integral to Hawthorn's build as first thought.

stk made him redundant mid-rebuild.

meh.

how good is this years draft is the most important question if you want 5 inside 50

With the rebuild starting what will we target first will
we go for key forward or a key backman or mids
Personally I think we should just take the best available
at our pick weather they are a mid , forward or a backman

A bit early son. Wait and see what last year's draft does first.

We need to continually invest in the draft rather than going all out for one year and hoping it's a good crop.

We've been making that mistake ever since the Livingston, Sporn, Wiggins, Blake Campbell, Sean O'Keefe (5 picks under 50) draft of 2000, which we then followed with trading out of the 2001 superdraft to get McKernan, Justin Murphy and Lindsay Smith. Our first pick in 01 was Justin Davies at 39, our second live pick (Waite was father son of course) was redrafting Sam Cranage at 75.

Those decisions are still costing us today.
