I actually found the PA supporters very magnanimous in defeat. They gave us heaps when they were winning but were equally ok with us giving THEM heaps when we were catching up. At the end they stuck out their hands to shake and wish us well for the finals.

I was really glad we were in Australia (as opposed to Colombia or Bolivia or London).

One beautiful little irony. Early in the first quarter, Waite made some mistake (can't even remember what). The guy behind yelled out "Waite, you're a wanker". Doc gave him what for "Come on, say it to his face", etc, etc. I was hoping against hope that Waite would kick the winning goal. I even said it to the Blues supporters around me early on. When Waite did actually kick the winning goal, I turned around and yelled out "Waite, you wanker". To give him his due, he looked at me and smiled in a kinda resigned way. He realised he'd been hit by the Karma bus.

A great day in the sun, with a nice bunch of Carlton supporters, some of whom were TC elite too (apart from me and Doc), and apart from looking into the sun and the stupid clash of jumpers, and the sardines can aisles between our seats and the ones in front, not too shabby a place to watch a Carlton come from behind victory to storm into the finals.

In 30 years' time, I'll be able to tell my (great) grandchildren "I was at the last game at AAMI Stadium when we started our run towards our 17th flag in 2013!!!!!!!!

Loved some of Duigan's work in the last quarter and Menzel's hands were very assured. Both players poise led to goals.

David King less than complimentary about our come from behind win on AFL Insider tonight, basically deconstructed the last two minutes of the game saying Port were better set up and unlucky that they hit the post.

He maybe right, but not much love for us coming from 39 points down.

We are a much loved commodity in the AFL media.

Did he mention we were set up better 22 times against the Bombers, or was that just because they were more brave?

Yeah saw that too AGRO. Evidently we ran forward very optimistically and our defensive structures late were no good.

Carlton is like your "black sheep" child who you always bad mouth in front of your family and friends, but if someone outside your circle bad mouths them you always ark up and defend them.

Seems we were just lucky to outscore them by 40 points in the second half of that game

Just finished watching 360 and King again made the front runners point.

So that's twice in the same night on two different shows.

I trust he will pose this to MM face to face tomorrow when we are on.

Thanks for posting Wookie.

Interesting that we didn't defend the lead well when we had it.

Explains some of the other tight losses during the year.

Well, id have King as an opposition analysis coach any day.

Yes he hates us and never gives us credit but you'd want someone who'd be critical and point out flaws. .

couple of comments ...

what was the Chief thinking when he pulled that shirt out of the wardrobe??????

I wonder whether there really is so much science in the positioning of players down to the metre in the heat of the final moment of the game. It sounds good but I wonder whether the comments are all in hindsight, which of course is a wonderful thing as we know

Kade Simpson made Broadbent kick the ball to the left side of the goal.

The front runners tag is nothing new. Perhaps there is a bit in what he has pointed out in regards to defensive structures. Especially when that is apparently a major focus of our head coach.

It just got my back up last night. We have our issues, we have our deficiencies but when we deserve a bit of credit, it does not come from some sections of the media.

I still hope he points these out to Mick and Marc personally.

Its easy to pick isolated actions out of every match and King is the master of it. Unfortunately its his only real value IMO.
If he has a look at the game holistically instead of picking isolated actions, he'd see Carlton had the momentum at the time and the onus was on the Port players to have a more defensive mindset.
His isolated instances mostly focussed on contested situations but the truth is Carlton won the majority of the contested situations and in fact, we were successful in the best part of 2 out of every 3 clearances!
When you consider we especially dominated the last quarter, I have no problem with one of our players running forward at stoppages if they do it in a calculated manner.
In fact, many clubs have a nominated players who role is to "bolt" forward at stoppages. I'd suggest it was Port who were negligent having their players attacking side of ours when they weren't getting possession in much better than 1 out of every 3 clearances.

Lastly, King isolated an instance where Carlton had a player run loose forward leaving a Port player possibly clear. Teams will occasionally do that as a set play where a player will take 2 opponents at a stoppage to free up a team mate. (Especially a player being tagged i.e. Murphy) Lets be honest. If there are 28 players around a stoppage, sometimes a player who puts himself into space is far more dangerous than player number 28.

The fact is we won the game. Had we continued the defensive mindset of the first 40 minutes where we allowed Port to dominate the uncontested ball, our players would be sitting around now nursing hangovers.
Suck shit King.
