After Lance got suspended with the head high bump the law was basic:

If you are prepared to go in with the bump you have to wear the consequences.
No injury = no problem.

Whewther Hodge could do anything else once he was committed is not the issue.
He should have been trying to get his hands on the ball. He didn't. He went in to lay a bump instead.

4 weeks

Hodge's hit on Murph was deliberate. I used to respect this guy but he 's put a massive dent in that respect after last night. I want Carlton to finally come out and request explanations about the umpiring, if you could call it that, this season. Well done to the boys last night and well done to Mick for saying what he thought. Now the club should get serious about it. We've tried to play the nice guy image as a club for too long now. It hasn't worked.

Bloody enjoyed that by Mick - gee he makes the commentators and the like squirm, you can see why the teams in the past he has coached loved this bloke, he will always go into bat for them without moddycoddling them - wish we had Mick back in 2008

Thanks Gro

I did miss that....love it.."...what do you think Richo?..."

Yep this will have to be looked at.
Kerna will have to back up MM and find answers.
Lets see what kind of balls Kerna has now....we're in damage control.

Reckon the director in Richo's ear was telling him to wrap it up.

I hate the Hawks as much as the next guy, and their coach only adds to that. We got by far the worse of the 50/50s, and we had the worse luck with injuries. As for Hodge, wish he was in a Carlton jumper. He won't get done for the hit on Murph, both went in low and Hodge protected himself more, but will go for head high bump on Hendo. There were reasons we lost last night, umps, injuries, not enough class in the end, but if we are to be a great side we will overcome those things. By looking for excuses we drift dangerously close to Richmond territory. There was no conspiracy, we just got the worst of it. We need to focus on some of the things we didn't do. Lucas being out marked by a Hawthorn guy who looked like he stayed on the field after the little league, Waite giving away a stupid, idiotic free at the death in the 3rd. Hodge takes out our captain and doesn't concede a free, Waite doesn't hurt the Hawthorn guy and gives up a crucial goal. Reality is we were in winning positions the last two weeks. I hate to use a paganism, but we can either blame everything else or concentrate on the things we can control. If it is only ever the umps who cause us to lose then we are closer to a flag than I thought.

Hodge should get a few weeks.

1. He was looking at Murphy.
2. Look how his right arm/elbow lifted up after the contact, clearly going for a bump.

And Mathews immediately defends Hodge during the commentary. His bias really shat me last night. And this morning on AW said he no problems with the umpiring. The only thing he could think of was the Mitchell throw and the HTB against Hodge.
And why are we listening to interviews with miked up umpires.

Matthews was rated the greatest footballer ever - he was also one of the greatest thugs of all time re Bruns, Cable, Hunter etc - a leopard never changes his spots, once a thug always a thug, he would have taken great joy in seeing a Hawks player inflicting an injury against the opposition

I dislike Hodge as much as anyone, but more than anything that video shows me that Murphy needs to improve his technique for getting the hard
ball. He needed to be lower and more side on. If he didn't know anyone was coming he should've. I wonder how many players at Carlton could also
improve in this area? Maybe it needs to be a coaching focus.

That was a disgrace. They actually asked him if he thought Carlon were coming back into the game.

Just another thing that's shit about today's footy

WTF ARE YOU KIDDING ME???????
I was at the came so didn't see that rubbish....only confirms what I was saying on the last page.
Thanks Bondi for backing it up....
Sorry so sound like a " conspiracy theorist " but there was something weird going on last night (and a few other games)
just saw the MM presser....he knew too.

Gerriatric.....we couldn't get into the game in the second half...really?... We opened with a goal, no possession from the hawks meant the umps couldn't blow the whistle....any contest and the whistle would go against us....simple.
Caz couldn't take a mark in the second half...have a look at how often he was shepherded out long before the ball got there....watching on telly doesn't REALLY show whets happening.
Two marks ..Walks and Garlett last quarter. ...punched arms and head missed ball...play on....yes, we didn't look like getting a goal in the second half....btw Garlett's was front on contact also...

As I said before....it was SUS from the first bounce....just seemed to get worse second half. Ump nearly twisted a testicle running in to get a review when it looked like a point would be awarded?..and the footage was soooo conclusive.

Wake up AFL.... Looks like the Morans are guiding the umps and not the Geesh

Thanks Billc. I don't get to many games and appreciate insights from those who were there. TV hides a lot.

Loved the interview with Richo. Check out the look on Richo's face once Mick has walked away at the end.

My biggest concern is that they will treat the Cachia incident the same as Hodge.

Umpires were very frustrating - that non-holding the ball against Hodge (and a few others) was baffling for anyone who watches a few games a week (and perhaps people who just watch Carlton).

We need someone who can kick 50m+ in the seniors as a way to break the clog in our forward 50. This approach of the long bomb that this site has lamented all year just isn't working and will not work, particularly when our only contested markers in the F50 aren't good shots for goal (on the off chance they get it).

Matthew Watson can kick 50+

 They were Carlton supporters Bill, so not the greatest analogy! Btw - the Geesh is currently on leave. Mark Evans (former Hawthorn general manager of football operations) is now pulling the strings.
