I think he got a bit lucky working in 2009-2010 when the rest of the league were flooding the centre corridor to beat Geelongs tactics. Left the wings right open for him
The suprise of the press also caught out a league that had not seen such a thing at the level and were still coming up with ways to counter it. Back then it was 5 v 14 when trying to get it out of the zone.
Times have changed.

Will he toss it out the window completely? With that will he start playing taggers? Carrazzo seems a better player when being defensive. Might get him back up to scratch if he plays him on Pendlebury.
Will he adopt the proven tactic of maning Maxwell?
If we do play the boundary tactic i hope we dont go as long. Just giving it away if we do.

Can't see a confused Carlton beating a switched on Magpies this week.

Micks game plan had be worked out that they led the gf by 4 goals at one stage

Only one less change than the actual margin though?

I think this is pretty close but I think MM will give Duigan another chance so White will stay as an emergency.

Don't be surprised to see Watson or another kid get a run this week. MM likes to back the kids in especially in "big" games. Great for their development.

I'd go with:

B: Bootsma, Jamison, Laidler
HB: Tuohy, White, Yarran
C: Lucas, Judd, Simpson
HF: Robinson, Kreuzer, Armfield
F: Henderson, Walker, Garlett
Foll: Warnock, Murphy, Gibbs
Int: Carrazzo, McLean, Bell
Sub: Buckley

In: Laidler, White, Warnock, Bell, Buckley
Out: Duigan, Betts, Casboult, Hampson, Joseph

Wouldn't be the first time Watson got thrown in the deep end against the pies. Would be good to see how far he has come since that first time in 2011.

I reckon Warnock and Bell should be starters (even if there weren't injuries)

Wouldn't mind White coming in.
is capable of playing both ends and has some intensity.

The fact that Mitchell doesn't appear to be serious contender for a spot up forward when the team is crying for goal kickers isn't a good sign in regards to his development.

Cats beat them 3 times that year. Average of 45pts. Pendlebury said they had been worked out. Cats always on the flanks where there use to be space for Cloke to lead into.

I'm not sure if he is injured or not so don't shoot the messenger.
Just a thought.

Buckley trained well and played well from all reports. FP would be an interesting opportunity and I'd probably give him a shot over Joseph at least.

I hope to see Bell and Laidler named, then probably Rowe over Warnock although McKay talked up Warnock last night so perhaps he'll be called up despite a nuffie performance for Northern.

Personally I don't want to see wholesale changes after Round 1. Mick picked his best 22 last week and while I raised my eyebrows at the inclusion of Joseph and Laidler missing out etc. I would assume Mick had a good reason for those selections. Therefore, I'd like to see them backed in to do the job again.

Out: Betts & Hampson
In: Buckley & Rowe

Maybe Mick picked a team that had the best chance of comprehending his game plan.

MM did say that it would take time to learn to play a particular way and even hinted that our guys are drilled and capable of a fast shoot out, and finally (not in these words) admitted that through the journey he has to be mindful about the supporters so it is important the team they pick can go out every week to post a win and grab the 4 points. Each set of 4 pts goes a long way in the marathon of 22 weeks if you want to play finals.

Yeah but they were the ONLY club to beat them so I think it's more than "clubs had worked us out".

Sometimes there's a team that just always has your measure. Just ask Hawthorn!

I reckon if a fit Collingwood instead of the one that Hawthorn bashed up went into that Grand Final they'd have won back to back (shudder at the thought!).

Interestingly Collingwood change things in 2012 and finish lower than in 2011. Hmmmm!!!!

There's merit in that....close down Pendles and Swan. They are machines. Pendles doesn't play well hurt. Gotta get that mongrel in our game.

I think Bell is the type who could execute that drill well...as long as he doesn't give away frees or get reported.

N. Buckley doesn't want to lose to MM and vice versa. This is so important to both of them. Moreso Buckley because MM has got a developing team who missed the 8 last year. Buckley got the gig witha top 4 team because he was seen as the better candidate to coach the Pies.

Bring it on.

Laidler, I believe will not disappoint if selected. If he's 3rd up in the backline then what role does Duigan play? Forward?...for a lazy 3.

I'd prefer Henderson at CHF but that leaves our key defensive posts a little short in height. Cloke is going to run them around the park and open up areas for Lynch to lead in, so there will be a need for rotations....that's why Laidler is the obvious 3rd tall...and then there's Jolly who slips up forward every now and then....Kreuzer will have to keep an eye on him.

Hampson out...I wonder if his replacement will be Warnock, because if not, it doesn't look good for Warnock that a kid (Casboult) that didn't show much last week plays fwd ahead of him. Warnock is likely to get a call up as part of MM's experimenting IMO.
