As most know I have not been a Ratten fan

So in one sense the decision to replace him with whoever is the right one IMO

What I cant stand is the narrow minded nature of the club.
Why do they think Malthouse or Roos are the 2 best candidates for the job.

Its the Carlton way Just chuck a big pile of cash at someone with a big name and everyrhing will be alright.Thats worked in the past hasnt it

Short term fix short term fix short term fix..............................

The way the club does its business is hopeless.
Do the maths
If Caros story is true the club didnt want Ratten in May last year. There were huge doubts then.
They put this ridicolous condition that he has to win one final. He does that against an Essendon* team that is stuffed and hey presto lets sign this guy for another 2 years even though we had doubts about him 5 months earlier.
Now we may have to pay a million bucks to pay Ratten as well as assistants out which folks equates to about 5000 memberships.

Other than loving the club, why would a hard working honest citizen part with 200 odd bucks to support a club run by incompetent fools.

The board has to be completely replaced.

And a coach is found by proper process. If Malthouse, Roos or Goodwin or Hinkley or anyone else wants it then apply. Have a independent group of people set the agenda and whittle the numbers down till you have the best possible candidate for the job.

Do you think that wil happen.
Course not and because of the clubs lack of professionalism its likely that the comedy will continue.

As for getting Travis Cloke !@#$%& me dead.

The board has to go and be replaced by a group of six that will run the club properly.

Look its fairly certain that Malthouse or Roos will be coaching us next year.

I reckon the playing list aint good enough anyway to win a flag.
Too many flaky soft fotballers.

Bottom line the club needs to start again in all areas.

Yep.
Sums it up for mine Keogh.
I want us to be run by people who can make a decision and stick to it.

No one can disagree with the above.

Well that's it, isn't it?

The perceived inability to take us to the next level was the deciding factor... no matter how good his win/loss ratio is.

Ratten was all class today... no one can dispute that.

The lack of culture and leadership at the Club has been much discussed on these boards for a number of years. IMHO, we will never win a Premiership until this is changed. Clubs without strong leadership and strong culture don't win flags.

The best way to change culture is to do so from the top. In our case, that means Kernahan and the board. Unfortunately, as has also been much discussed, there seems to be a lack of strong leadership from the board. So unless that somehow changes in a hurry, or the board changes significantly to incorporate (starting with the President) people who can instil that leadership and cultural change, where else can it come from?

The answer of course it with the coach. To do this though, we need someone to come in who by virtue of who they are and their own strength of character and personality, can demand excellence, instil and develop leadership and create cultural change.

I can't think off the top of my head of a first up coach who has every done this with a club that needed that kind of change. The types who could do this, and who have done it, are Roos, Matthews, Malthouse, Thompson and Lyon, who is currently doing it at Freo. B Scott may be a first time coach going down that path at North, but time will tell whether he can be successful at it.

Whoever our next coach is, the FIRST thing he needs to do, with or without leadership from the board, is change the culture, demand excellence every day, best practice, uncompromising method, a hard nose on and off the field, and create leadership in every department. We will not win a premiership until that happens. If the next coach is able to do that, but doesn't win a flag in his time, it will still be a massive step in the right direction (although I think we should definitely be aiming at a flag in the next few years).

Ratts showed amazing character today.

Perhaps TC might get a chance to show some Character as well.

How about we all give Ratts some respect and not dance on his grave for a 24 hour period.

How about we all not say one bad or derogatory word about him or his Coaching today.

How about we just assume that everyone has had their fair chance to trash him 24/7 as a person and a Coach for the past 12 months and today we just leave it alone.

How about it?

Class act! (Ratts not you)

The MM camp may well get their way.
I for one wiould like to go on record as thinking this is a huge mistake. I am firmly in the camp that says we would have made the top 4 apart from injuries this year. Obviously it is only an opinion because we will never know. I am not interested in people swearing black and blue that we wouldn't have because it is only their opinion and we will never know that either. We will also never know if Ratts could have delivered us the next flag because like may before him, he was sacked before he had a chance to do it. OK, MM may well deliver us a flag next year but if he does, it will be with the same list plus maybe one or two from outside and I sincerely hope Cloke isn't one of them. MM is a dinosaur from an era where today's dinousaurs were yesterdays new boys. It took him an eon to deliver a premiership at Collingwood and he did it with a great list. No guarantee he will be able to do it with this one.
If we do get him, I will be disappointed and will be filthy if we go for Cloke, who is a prima donna and not worth the money he's asking. If he were, Collingwood would have signed him up months ago. If he comes, we have to consign one of Mitchell, Casboult, Rowe or Henderson to the NB for life or to the backline for years. There will be no incentive for them to stay if they know there is no hope of their getting a game. It's the Jacobs scenario allover again. Leave Cloke where he is to languish. Lets develop what we have. Judd and Murphy aren't interested in Carlton. They are only interested in the immediate future and winning a cup while Judd is there. How would you like to be one of the players mentioned above and know that your captain and vice captain want you to play NB for the next 5 years? Great for morale.

For mine, this is NOT a day the club should be proud of and I hope the sakc Ratts campaigners are happy in advance with next year's results on and off the field.

SHABBY.

Bravo my friend, through the whole season you have been one of the few people who post here that has been able to look at the season for what it was, without any agenda or malice.

Today is the first time in 48 years of life that I am embarrassed and ashamed to be a Carlton supporter, this is a disgraceful day in the club's history and I hope that the weak pricks who made this decision to save their own asses get their right wack.

I will find it difficult to barrack for a side coached by MM in view of the circumstances and if that turd Cloke comes to the club then I hope we spend the next 5 years on the bottom and that we reap what we sow.

I am shattered by this execution of a coach who has had ONE season where we have struggled, all others during his tenure have been of improvement.

Unfortunately Ratten is a convenient scapegoat for the mismanagement that has been our Football Club over the past few years.

#1 to that is the consistent lack of respect/support for the coach over the past few years. At no point had I felt that Ratten had the full support of the club behind him over the course of a season.

That is a failure of the president, CEO and administrators.

Imo, having the full confidence of the club behind your coaching staff is a huge part of achieving team success. It facilitates belief and the mindset required for success.

Regardless of who coaches the club next year, I would hope that everyone (administrators AND supporters) get behind the coaching staff and provides them with 100% support - including those of you that for one reason or another have doubts over the eventual appointee (likely to be malthouse atm)

i dont think this was stupidity

im excited , exciting times

ratts did great today, was a good job audition and i hope he gets picked up somewhere next year

but this should be the beginning of long overdue sweeping change at this club - from right at the top down

enough is enough with the mediocrity we have endured for the past decade

shit its been 17 years since we won a flag

clean the place out and move on

im still a little hesistant that we wont go deep enough and still a little hesistant on some of the puppet masters

but we have a great opportunity on our doorsteps at the moment

and all this change should finally be for the better

You're right Rocco, you would think that the club would have learned.

Oh well we can all go out and get our Black and White jumpers now.

Agreed. Hopefully this is the catalyst for this club to finally pull it's head out of it's arse.

Anyone in the "I'm not supporting Carlton anymore" crowd can GAGF.

I agree, but once upon a time football clubs tried to copy us.

And thats the position we need to be again.

Pharking oath!

He might educate some of our people on how to develop players both physically and from the point of view of mental toughness.
