A good lesson for our players and although I hate losing to the Bombers, this was the right time for it to happen,
After a soft win where our rucks gave the midfield an armchair ride, our midfield were reminded of the need to be 2 way runners and to respect their opposition.
Essendon* had a plan (their ruckmen palmed the ball wide at 45 degrees and their runners ran onto it beautifully). Unfortunately our midfield and coaches box took 30 minutes to wake up to it). I chuckle at the posters potting McLean for his lack of pace chasing. Have a look at Juddy chase on the transition. He's slower than my Nana. At least Brock tried to apply pressure. He had 8 clearances and plenty of pressure acts. If Ratten drops him after that, he should get his arse kicked.
We can beat Freo but we need to pay some respect to them. If our midfield are looking to feed off Kruezers taps, they're kidding themselves. We need our ruckmen to jump into Sandilands and our mids need to feed off him. Lets see how good they can be when they dont have silver service. Its a good challenge for our blokes. I'm looking forward to see how they adapt and react.
Are we still downhill skiers or do we now have some real substance.
I chuckled at you potting the bloke that's won us so many games of his own back and turned the playing culture around 180 degrees, just to defend Brock
AJ provides more than Brock with his pace, run, hardness and shutdown ability IMO
Rexy and Duke:
As great as Judd is, I have to agree with BV here - I couldn't believe how many times I saw the Scum shuffling the ball around between their ordinary half backs whilst Judd (and others) watched on, exerting little to no pressure on the ball carrier whatsoever. And as I said, it wasn't just Judd but his efforts when we don't have the ball are a joke sometimes and they were particularly evident in this game. When was the last time you can remember Judd using his pace to run someone down from behind? I can't.
The fact is that we are an attacking team that becomes completely rattled when the opposition stifles our centre clearance/stoppage work like the Scum did on Saturday. The main problem with this game style is that when we are on we are almost invincible, whereas when we are not we are shocking. We need to become better at our Plan B.
That being said, I don't think even a well-executed Plan B would have saved us on Saturday because we just didn't look interested from the first bounce. I find that the most disturbing thing about it all.
