Seem to be the expected ins and outs and I think pretty good.

Great that Laidler is back. Really useful medium defender and always goid to see playing against old club. Hope Brock really takes his chance. He's been out so long he should be hungry.

Now a blues win by any margin (I'm not greedy) and I'll be happy.
Oh, and someone needs to give milburn a really good bump for old times sake. (that's not too greedy is it?).

Very interesting stats at the bottom of this article.

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/m ... 6059336637

Quote:
FRIDAY NIGHT ANALYSIS

CARLTON v GEELONG

Etihad Stadium, tonight 7.40

WELL-GROUNDED BLUES

The significant difference in Carlton this season is its ability to restrict the opposition scoring.

The Blues have conceded just 78.3 points - 11.8 fewer than last season.

Up forward the Blues have averaged 97.7 points to rank sixth in the AFL.

They have averaged 56 inside 50s (4th) and once inside 50 have scored 51.8% of the time (3rd), but goaled just 24.4% (10th). Their accuracy is lagging (ranked 12th).

The Blues average the second most marks inside 50 and at ground level in the forward 50 they are only one of two teams who are in the positive against their opposition defenders.

Eddie Betts leads the competition in groundball-gets (hard/loose combined) inside 50 with 27. Jeff Garlett ranks sixth with 16.

GROUNDBALL-GETS

Forwards v Defenders Difference

Forwards v Defenders Difference

1 Collingwood +17

2 Carlton +13

16 West Coast -43

17 Port Adelaide -53

STINGY CATS

Geelong is on pace to have the lowest points against of any team since 1968. It has conceded just 63.29 points a game and no side has scored 100 points against it in a game this season.

With inside-50 numbers being the highest they have been since 2000 at an average of 53.2, it makes Geelong's defending even more remarkable.

The Cats have conceded 49.1 inside 50s a game - the most by the club since 2006.

Once inside 50, however, they are being scored against 38.3% of the time - the lowest pecentage since the stat has been recorded - and are being goaled against 18.0% of the time - again the lowest ever recorded.

After both teams kicking at goal last week, we'll probably end up with a score line of 2.32 vs 3.28 or something! Both bloody woeful in front of goal.

Don't believe the hype and fluff pieces in the media pre-game.

Stay focussed Blues - keep your head down and just smash em..

Then can we bash him? :fight:

Seriously, I'd like to see Thornton as a forward before we mothball him...

No matter how much we ve improved, no matter what Wallsy writes, no matter how good we play, even if we win tonight, we wont get the credit we deserve.
The media will trott out the usual 'But Geelong had injuries', 'Geelong were due for a loss anyway', 'Geelong had an off night and everything went right for Carlton' or 'The Blues only won due to that man Judd again'.

I havent said PEEP for a while and just watched TC...sometimes to my detriment.

Carlton 2011 is a way better Club than pundits have given creedence too and a lot better than we have been for a decade.

By the way 'Why Would Smurph Leave A Contender?' Seriously :donk:

We have:

A strong, smart backline.
A deep, gut running midfield.
A dangerous forwardline.
And depth.

No matter what happens tonight we are UP & ABOUT AT LAST!

If we can:

Kick remotely straight.
Take risks and carry the ball.
Consolidate our efforts in Red time.

We will win this game.

My only fear is the 'Bob Davis' inspired first 15 minutes.
We have to absorb their pressure and then counter them in the first quarter.
If they get a run on early it is going to be hard to peg them back.

BUT...if we can consolidate late in the 1st the game is ours!

Go Blues...your time is NOW...time to tell the rest that we are BACK!

After all...We are the NAVY BLUES! :fight:

Good!!! Love it that way.

We were the underdog in 1968, 1970, 1972, 1979. Can't remember if we were in 1981-82, but we were again in 1987. The only time in the last 50 years that we were the clear favourite and won the flag, was in 1995.

I much prefer flying under the radar.
