Army ahead of Galluci, and possibly Buckley for Boeky, about right otherwise TNO.

As long as Rowe isn't back :yikes: Not every club needs a monster down back, think Hawks.

Getting mildly depressed watching Garlett, betts Waite and even robbo turn it on in other clubs. If Yarran hendo and Menzel do the same I will be..... I dunnno what I'll be come to think of it. But it's the thing that's opposite to really happy.

You're only allowed to get upset when ex-players play well, if you didn't want them to leave in the first place. A lot of people were more than happy to see the back of Jeffy, Waite and Robbo at the time. It'll be the same if Menzel or Lachie play well at their new clubs. You shouldn't really complain if you were wanting them to leave.

*You = generalisation. Not directed at anyone in this thread.

No, the club needs to learn from it - and very quickly.

If we received fair compensation for Garlett/Robbo I'd be ok with it but the facts are we got bent over badly.

At least there was fight in our trading position last year, I think we won on Hendo but slightly lost on Yarran and Menzel.

Betts and Waite were free agency, if a player wants to go in that situation you either pay through the nose or cut your losses. No issues there except we should have taken the draft pick for Betts but Micks love affair with Daisy couldn't control the boner he had for him.

Don't worry Dane. I've kept a list of every single person who was happy that Menzel left just so I can say I told you so to each and everyone

Good team.

I like Gorringe ahead of Phillips and agree with Thomas over Galluci or Wright. Thomas looked very good in the back half against the Hawks.

Mine would be:

Plowman Jamo Tuohy
Thomas Weitering Docherty
Simpson Cripps Kerridge
Boekhurst Casboult Everitt
Walker Kreuzer Lamb
Gorringe Murphy Gibbs
E.Curnow Graham C.Curnow Buckley

Rowe and White very unlucky based on the hype around Plowman/Weitering.

How do you think the reduced rotations and end of the sub rule changes will impact this? There is in my view a high probability that there will be ruckmen resting forward and/or taller forwards capable of giving a decent chop out in the ruck on the ground for most of the game. If so, there will be more need for the very tall defender, assuming you don't have that rare beast (in the modern game) a ruckman who is competent as a defender.

In the old days ruckmen could rest in a back pocket but generally were either on the resting ruckman who in those days was usually a lumbering type or effectively planted themselves where the long bomb into the forward line was going to land - they weren't called upon to defend the way they would be today if one tried to rest a ruckman back - today you would need it to be a relatively athletic type with some understanding of how to play key defence, or you go with the specialist key defender or swingman.

I've said this before. Play Rowe up forward if we play him at all. He is a capable forward, but his disposal is terrible so his days down back are numbered IMO.

But we have problems up forward. Surely he would be tried there if our goalkicking shit hits the fan.

Not big on him down back, but I can see the merit in this. Not as if we have Royce Hart waiting in the wings..

He was played there in 2013 with moderate success, not much worse than a Casboult. can't see why he wouldn't be good for a couple of snags a game.

Harry McKay already looks like our best tall forward. Pity he's injured.

Int: Andrew Phillips, Dylan Buckley, Dale Thomas, Matthew Wright

Kicking a winning score is the major issue at Carlton and Simon White has the ability and adaptability to complement last year’s leading club goalkicker Andrejs Everitt along with Levi Casboult and Andrew Walker. Former Giant Andrew Phillips looms as the best support ruckman for the team’s most important player, Matthew Kreuzer. No.1 draft pick Jacob Weitering has shown in his two NAB Challenge games that he is worthy of a starting spot in the 18. Sam Kerridge has been impressive in the pre-season and another former Crow, Matthew Wright, wins a spot on the bench as another midfielder who can go forward and score. – Howard Kotton

It's not far off many of our efforts, but obviously not a lot of love for Casey.

A fit Plowman for White and that's our best 22. Byrne right on the cusp,
Sumner to press when he gets that foot right.

Simon White CHF?

I'd play Byrne off half back and Simpson as a 7th defender.

B. Rowe Jamison Docherty
HB. Touhy Weitering Byrne Simpson
C. Boekhorst Cripps Graham
HF. Murphy Everitt
Casboult
F. Walker Wright
R. Kruezer Gibbs Kerridge
I. Buckley Whiley E Curnow C Curnow.

Plenty of running rotations on the bench. Casboult parked in the corridor about 35m out from goal. Rowe is on thin ice as he has been a walking turnover in the NAB cup games. If Jaksch or Plowman get fit, I'd bring one of them in.
Lamb is unlucky and he is putting pressure on Buckley for a spot in the side. Phillips isn't doing enough. Kruezer is looking the goods so I'd have him doing 80% of the ruck work with Casboult give him a 5 minute rest at the 15 minute mark. The days of ruckmen monopolising a spot on the bench is gone.
Armfield into the side if we require a defensive forward.
