Listened to Brenton Sanderson this morning explaining why he would rest Cripps Curnow Docherty Weitering Saad etc this week. Some good reasoning especially as we likely play GWS 2 weeks in a row

Players don't lose game plan in two weeks
Players don't lose fitness in two weeks
Stops GWS planning and trialling things this week against us
It's as much a mental rest as it is physical after longest season
No risk of injury
Allows others to get full games, play roles and prove themselves before finals. May well be hungrier
Carlton have proved it is as much about structure as it is personnel
Creates a better "Club" mentality

Have to agree

Maybe the coaches want to see what GWS has planned I mean I would. Much prefer this game to be a live game.

I am hoping Walsh, Gov and Cerra get us back playing the way we did earlier in our run. We have gone off the boil a bit lately and gone back to kicking long rather than that short passing risk taking play with overlap that had us looking a million bucks. I am sure teams have adjusted to stop us from doing it and maybe with injuries the replacements are not quite up to it but it really does look like we have gone into our shell a bit with the risk/reward stuff.

In that case, it looks like the replacements for Walsh and cerra either dont run hard enough or not good enough to fill the void.

I'm sure we will see a difference to our running gane with 2 of our best midfield running machines.

Spot on. That style of play is all about work rate and hard running to create space for others to run into, provide the extra option for the ball carrier, and outnumber the opposition. You know we're off when we you look up from half back and everyone is stagnant.

I would do:

Acres Hewett Hollands
DeKoning Cerra Walsh
Martin Curnow Fogarty
Owies McKay Motlop
Young Dow Boyd Cottrell

Rested / Out: Cripps Doc Cunningham Pittonet Cincotta Curnow
In: McGovern Cerra Walsh Fogarty Young Boyd

What happened to Marchbank?

Too many changes for me, Fogarty, Young and Boyd don’t really need game time. Pittonet, Cincotta and Doc don’t need a rest beyond the finals first week break.

I’d add Kennedy as sub to replace Ed (that’s where you lost count I think).

I definitely lost count with my wholesale changes haha.

The way I see it as we lacked the class and polish to finish off all our hard work. You can't beat class.

Cerra especially created a lot of opportunities

I remember hearing a stat last week, on SEN I think it was, about effective clearances - ie a clearance that results in retention of possession. They mentioned Cerra had something like 38 of his last 38 clearances were effective before getting injured. That's just insane.

I think we will make changes and I believe we will win.

Full games into Cerra Walsh McGovern McKay Kennedy maybe Boyd are vital. Fogarty should be back in

Many players are fighting for finals spots and many need game time. That should ensure a good effort let alone we haven't achieved anything yet

I just hope we can get them all to sync for the finals.

I honestly don't believe it will be an issue. They have all played and tarined together for long enough. They aren't kids

I really believe our biggest issue is being fresh and ready.

Hope so farmer! Is there any word on us playing a scratch match on the bye weekend. I heard talk that we could with the saints, given they are also out of the VFL finals.

I have been reading the debate on the pros and cons of resting players and giving other players a run.

But the only ones who really know the condition both mental and physical of each player is the player himself
and presumably the MC.

Therefore in Voss I trust and I wait for the team sheet this evening.

I have no idea. With so many sore players etc it would suprise me if many have a few days break and others do extra training. I am sure there will be some game sim clsoer to the first final

100% agree. My only comment is that there are so many very sore players I can see them giving a few a rest

It wouldn't surprise me to see any of Cripps Docherty Saad Newman Pittonet get a break.

Out: Curnow (sub) Docherty (inj)

B: Newman, Weitering, Kemp
HB: Acres,McGovern, Saad
C: Walsh, Cripps, Cottrell
HF: Martin, McKay, Hewett
F: Motlop, Curnow, Owies
Foll: De Koning, Cerra, Dow
Int from: Fisher, Hollands, Cuningham, Fogarty, Cincotta, Marchbank, Pittonet, Durdin

Doesn't surprise me about Docherty. I think a few more including Cripps may be rested if results make our game a dead rubber
Dow in 18
Good side

some handy ins.

game day will be interesting. one or two of cincotta, fog, DC, Ollie, pitto and fish will miss/ be ommitted.

a good place to be, where there's a dog fight for positions in the squad.

With Cripps wearing the rubber tyre around his torso it would be nice to give him the
week off.

i sure hope Cerra and Walshy aren’t being rushed back in. last thing we want is re-injury (as JSOS seems to have done in the VFL).

Harry looked rusty last week. i guess better for the run but didn’t contribute so much. should players be training at a very high level before returning to the side?

Way different injuries. JSOS knee probably needs cleanout which would see him miss the rest of the season

Walsh and Cerra were minor hamstring strains. Both were initally listed as 2-3. Walsh has missed 4 and Cerra 3. I would say they've been overly cautious as it is.

walsh has been running full speed for 2 straight weeks. i was expecting him to play on GC. warm sun etc, much friendlier on soft tissue than the cold. if the saints game was a final he woulda played.

but with the back & the fact we keep winning, they've been super cautious
