Weird, considering two of them have contracts for 2017

I'm saying they won't be around when we are good.

I will guarantee Gibbs, Kruezer, Touhy and Casboult will get traded in the next two years to generate more draft picks.

I'd trade Touhy and Casboult this year for early second rounders.

The year after Gibbs and Cruiser for first rounders if they both are consistent over the next two years.

I'm going to put as much thought into my response to this as you did into that post:

It's hard playing in a crap team. It's hard playing in a crap team over an extended period (must be easy to lose heart). And I guess the salary cap money has to go to someone. But it's frustrating that some of our best paid players (Thomas, Gibbs, Kreuzer) aren't even close to being our best performing players.

And I repeat :

Ruckmen are a waste of space if they can't get possessions/marks around the ground.

At the moment our ruckmen are at the bottom of the pile ... sad to say this about Kreuz ... but its a reality.

Been saying it about Kreuzer for ages.....couldn't believe we were in line for a first round compo pick, would have made out like bandits.

Alas, Collingwood aren't stupid like we were

Yeah, Collingwood aren't stupid. They don't make mistakes like offering big money to mediocre players (Cloke), or offering contract extensions when they aren't warranted (Buckley). And sure as hell, if they had a 26 year old big guy on their list that was injury prone and had missed a lot of footy they'd just cut him off rather than wasting their time keeping him (Reid).

I can't believe people are still humming that 'keep all our 'good' players' tune out of the sides of their mouths after all these years. We need more than one Weitering/Cripps type per year over the next 3-4 years. In fact, we need at least 6 more and that's even after factoring the likes of Curnow, McKay and Plowman into the equation.

@cecil... Was more about our ability to pick a player up through free agency on big bucks with a dodgy injury history.

At least Daisy was a great footballer once upon a time

First round compo for Kreuzer....absolute bandits we would have been

Jimmae comment is rubbish

we are 4 drafts away and 6 years from finals - minimum if we are lucky and most of our drafts and trades work

of the 22 that played on saturday I reckon no more than 4 players will be there that could play finals for carlton

You have absolutely no idea how players will or will not turn out....could be six, historically it's nowhere near the 6 + 2 you're saying

That's the complete pessimists view, the optimist will say 2....it's probably somewhere in the middle

So basically we're going to savage the list for 5 years in the same way we have been for the last 3 seasons, and somehow come up with a squad of 28-34 players within a list of 44 that can push for a flag?

Good luck with that.

Do we just throw a draft in the bin then, or not rock up to the selection meeting?

It's so dumb it might just work; they'll certainly never see it coming.

Agree with Trading Gibbs - problem is i doubt you'd get much for him.

Ditto Kreuzer.

But I'm hesitate to trade Kreuzer......... I have a gut feeling if he goes elsewhere he'll become a star! Gibbs will always be Gibbs though.
