Got a 14 year old boy. Plays footy and basketball.

Nothing fancy mind you – just a player.

Often find myself at his games yelling at the boys to move, make position, provide options.

Caught myself doing the same today at the MCG with him sitting next to me.

Role models we are not.

Skills aside, when a player takes possession he needs to have his mates working for him to provide options in those fleeting seconds he has to make a decision.

Melbourne – of all teams – took the game on, provided options and pumped the ball forward relentlessly. They worked for each other.
We had nothing and went backwards time after time. We did not work, did not move, did not provide.

Why?? Not fitness or talent I’m sure.

What’s the real reason for the lack of endeavour?

We are tanking from round 1. Gibbs will stay and we will slay the draft and next year go on to finish ......

Cue nasty and unwitty retort.....

Dont know if this has been posted.....Walker got interviewed on 3AW post game. Lloyd asked him if the players were asking enough of each other, said he doesn't see many out there giving direction or showing the way. Walker staright out said it's an issue, team of introverts, etc, etc. Even the players acknowledge it.

GET EXTROVERTS.

That was a good thing about Betts, humble off the field (seemingly) and vocal and usually up and about on the field even when he couldn't get into the game himself. Sometimes wondered if he was general of the forward line even with Fev there.

...and Betts was the most defensive forward in the league over the past 2 or 3 years

he kicks goals, chases, tackles, blocks and puts on pressure...

couldn't possibly keep him if he plays like that

One thing I noticed today - & I can't recall seeing this in ages...Melbourne (& their supporters) clearly felt they were a massive chance right from the start of the game.

Says a lot about us.

It must rank as the only pro of the day. The meme has started. I don't get it though. Which is a con.

Oh no! Who will kick it to the opposition midfielders from defence if Jamison is out?

Oh, yeah, right. Pretty much everyone.

There are a lot of problems at the club, some obvious, some less so, but how anyone ever thought Murphy could be an inspirational leader is beyond me.

I nearly fell asleep watching that.
