Not one A grade performance on sunday night - glad club is finally admitting that the list is not good enough -that is the first step - now we need to see some action at selection table and truthful club messaging around expectations for the year - be honest with supporters - they are angry enough as it is so don't obfuscate tell the truth - tell them that we are bottom 4 material - tell them that list isnt going to cut it
Don't embarrass us or the club by sugarcoating if we win against Melbourne - don't let those players be all big and brave this week snarling against Melbourne- we wanted statements in the first 3 weeks of the season and not a statement in round 4 when we have had 3 weeks of ineptitude to start the season together with a performance against Essendon* which would go down as one of our worst performances in the last 5 years and lasts face there have been a fair few of them -
We should also support and be patient with the young players we bring in - we shouldn't afford the luxury to those players and particularly leaders who continually underperform - name and shame these guys they deserve it

I had no doubt Essendon*** was going to smash us. It was only blind faith that gave me any hope of an unlikely win.

So to hear Mick state so publicly that he had no idea it was coming is a little concerning. I only hope his private view was a little more realistic.

In private and inside the club I can tell you now that they fancied themselves against the Bombers.

If true, disturbing on so many levels.

I fancy myself with Christina Hendricks too, and just like Carlton v Essendon* I'd never get close to her.

Who the hell are the 5 "A Graders" ??

I reckon MM would say;

Thomas
Gibbs
Murphy
Judd
Henderson

Probably right, IMO

Thomas B+
Gibbs B-
Murphy B+
Judd A-
Henderson A

If we are to believe the press, Judd wasn't included because of his age. 5th saviour might be Kruezer - which could be a little bit of a stretch

Yep, Hendo only A grader. No Gibbs fan, but a B closer to the mark.

..disagree, it's just the last time we gave him a real go at chf was his first year with us, 2010,, and he showed good signs for a 20yr old kpp at a new club on little games.. ..early 2011 we rushed him in and he was underdone, dropped to get touch and fitness in ressies.. ..mid 2011 and he was back for just a few games before getting moved down back.. ..has been back most since, with odd swingman game but hasn't played real kpf for a while he is still underdone and will be a few weeks before regaining full match fitness after interrupted preseason..,

I wouldn't mind betting MM rated Jamison as an A grader

Given Simmo won the B&F in Mick's first year, he could be one.

There is a problem in its self....

Clubs should always be rebuilding and refining the list, and in fact all aspects of the organization.

I recall a former president of carlton, saying in public that "we never rebuild at carlton"

Mick should have been looking at refining and improving our list even before he was officially appointed.

Instead when preseason started on nov 1st 2012, mick had to go on a book launching tour.

2012 was yet another wasted season for our club. And this season is panning out in the same way.

Newbie geebies Cretylus you bang on about this book launch all the time. U r a smart fella and l enjoy your posts but give it a rest.

As Synbad and others have stated, it's not about apportioning blame on the coach or on the players, it's the off field the executive where the microscope should be directed.

In what universe?

The article is a little off. My understanding is MM didn't tell the board at the last board meeting the list wasn't much chop - he told them at the end of last year. But rather than looking at the way Sydney exposed us - the club hierarchy was still buoyed from defeating Richmond and told MM that wholesale changes wouldn't be made.

So those chiding Malthouse have no idea. None at all. Their frustration should be with the board. The renovation needed is more than people think. Right now - you'd only save the facade. Gut the rest. Before it's too late.

I just think MM rates Jamison highly. I sure don't.

As for the rest, totally agree.

Big decisions need to be made, trades need to happen for picks. Two years of 7-8 picks (3-4 inside 25) can make a real difference to any list.

The problem is I have doubts on the people in charge to make it happen.

My reno list:

Gibbs to Adelaide on big deal. We get first round pick.

Yarran to Perth for first rounder.

Garlett to Perth for Second rounder.

Nothing else really to trade.

Another 8-10 players gone.

Seems to have been forgotten .
We played against a team playing the footy equivalent of "one touch possession football" in AFL.
HAWKS do it well and slaughtered Freo. Bombers are playing it and killed North and us....
The ONLY. Way to combat it is to play it back, why the bombers played so well against the Hawks.
Whatever we do...have to decide how you want to play and choose the players that suit it....if we want crash bang footy....maybe a team of Robbos is what we're looking for????

Not my thing. The one touch footy style will not really be broken....Hawks were doing it as were Geelong. Thompson has refined it a bit.....go back before you go forward...Hawks have done this for a while. Look at who they have recruited....Lake and Gibson . Players with one and only one talent...picking the flight of the ball....comparatively no skill, pace, kick with both feet, leap, etc etc....

Know what you need to do and get people who will do it.
If I see us playing "a kick to a contest" game to a team playing one touch football....I'll spew up!! Look at the game, look at the Hawks Freo game,
It's no FfFFfen rocket science .

BTW. AFter playing soccer for 40 years I can tell you....it's a strategy that will not be beaten...and has become standard in just about every other sport....

Malthouse was given license to make the changes he wanted to make; the changes he thought needed to be made - fitness people, Thomas etc.

I can see Malthouse standing by and letting the hierarchy tell him what to do with the list.
