The stats though. Oh the stats.

You'd think he was trolling.

Didn`t mind Ratts blasting the journo`. Should have seen that sort of steel more often from him instead of regurgitating stats.
That must have been at least the 5th time this year Judd has said we owe Ratts more than that. Starting to sound very hollow.

Some of you may remember last week after belting the Scum, one of my Year 10 students had to put up a wallpaper I made on his computer all week after losing our bet:

Walked into class today and he and a Pies supporter were blaring the Suns theme song outta their laptops, laughing at me. Fair enough, I deserve that.

"Check your Email Sir."

Checked it, and there it was. Touche kid, touche.

Just arrived home from 3 days on the Gold Coast, lovely weather.
Sadly i went to the game, still wondering if it was all a bad dream.
2/3rds of the crowd were Carlton supporters who made the trip.
There are no words to describe how i feel. At the game it was obvious that we were in trouble very early, first quarter there was alot of finger pointing. the players were shell shocked.
Mentally weak, gutless, insipid and embarrassing is how i would sum up the game.
The only positive from the game is that all ticket holders got 2 free quarter pounders because GC won 2 quarters.
Had a lovely time, pity about the game.

I'm really hoping that our mental weakness and inconsistent effort are purely coaching problems otherwise we'll never go anywhere this group.

I haven't seen the game, my youngest daughter got married on Saturday night, so I have something to be happy about, I recorded the game but haven't watched it yet, we had a barbie on Sunday and I managed to get myself that smashed that my wife had to put me to bed cause I couldn't find the bedroom, I'm not sure if that drunkenness was due to celebrations or the fact that I was shattered by the result in Queensland, someone probably the Groom's Father (Essendon* supporter) thought it would be a good idea for the DJ to announce the result for me and I copped the GC theme song all day Sunday (and they wonder why I drink), that hungover yesterday I spent the whole day in bed.

Anyway, the mental weakness that we have shown on numerous occasions this year also concerns me greatly.

I am not sure if it can be dropped at the coaches feet, if this group does have the mental fragility that it seems like they have I don't know what any coach can do with that, the most likely things is to drop the players that display these traits and this hasn't been an option this year.

As much as it saddens me I think Ratts is gone, but I don't think any coach could address this problem, after all it is the blokes out on the ground who make the decision to cruise around and not put in.

There isn't much anyone can do about bad kicking 11.20 what was that all about.

I made two interstate trips this year, to Adelaide for the Port game and on the weekend.
Thats it, no more interstate trips for me.

I think some of you are overreacting. Put Jamo, Hendo and Laidlaw back in that side, and we win that game. These guys will be like new recruits next year, and then watch us fly.

Look, Ratts has improved us every year. And if you think of the low base we started from - the club was flowered on Black Friday - its a miracle we did so well last year (just 3 points off a prelim). Of course this year is an aberration - injuries, shocking draw, etc. and speaking of the draw, well shit. Some clubs got to play GWS, GC, and Port twice. We only played each of them once - completely unfair.

Anyway, this was the year we had to have. Ratts will learn from it. This was like Bomber's 2006 Geelong.

FLAG NEXT YEAR!!!! EXCITING TIMES!!!!!

Agree Moshe, For whatever reasons we all want to throw around this has been a year where nothing has gone right, we have the core, we have the talent, the players need to decide if they are fair dinkum, If we sack Ratten It will only be an excersise in scapegoating and if the same thing happens next year under a new coach who do we blame and chop then?

I still think our best 22 is as good as anybody, this is one of the most even seasons I have seen in over 40 years, let's try not to over react too much, that could cause more problems than it solves.

The papers have mentioned that there were some 'visibly angry' board members at the game.

Does anyone know who they were?
Were they members of the football subcommittee?

Anyone can rattle of statistics.... but its about devising a plan to be effective thats the trick

Kick the ball to the pocket is not an effective inside 50....no matter how many times you do that.

Totally agree Synbad.

Always Rats and his stats..

Great article here on the stat's and why we failed.

Well...as many of you know I've been on an enforced holiday for a week - but what a week! ...and while this thread is still on the first page, I'll have my two cents.

That was a great result! You mightn't know it yet - but that sojourn to Queensland by the playing/coaching group and a few board members will have long term benefits for our club.

...Here endeth the lesson. Let's just hope a lesson has been learned!

Agree. I thought the article was quite insightful. I've always thought that we have been good at getting our hands on the ball but clearly lack efficiency. Which to me demonstrates a lack of a good game plan (s) and kicking skills. Prerequisites for a premiership tilt.
