This is the one thing C70 that bothers me about Carlton more than anything else. Why are these kids having to wait for injuries to be given a chance when the team's losing?

Bell was injured for the first 10 or so weeks of the season.
Casboult was also injured. He played 1 VFL game and 1 VFL reserves game for the year, prior to making his debut.
McInnes wasn't up to it until half way through the year.
Watson wasn't exactly killing it in the VFL before he got a game either.

Nothing to do with anything else other than availability.

Well .... yes if you're referring to Bell and Casboult, but not it seems the other two.

Good answer though to my specific example, (although I still have my concerns about "favourites" in the seniors who seem to be undroppable).

Disagree on the game being over umpired. Lots of frees paid early, but I'd rather see those frees for holding at clearances paid early and let the players adjust and stop doing it. Tidies the game up and allows the ball players a free run at it.

You could argue that early holding frees for Murphy and Cotchin allowed Murphy in particular to get 36 possies and be the dominant player after half time.

The umps may have watched the physical work-over that Picken gave the previous week and decided it wasn't on.

Oh.
Not the first time I've missed the "tongue-in-da-cheek" wrapper, (and I bet it won't be the last).

If they paid the holding frees that BT shit himself over, each week we'd get to see the real players tearing it up, rather than the hacks monstering the better players out of the game. This could only be a good thing

..i agree with the spirit of your post, but the umpiring in regards to many of the on-ball holding free's seemed to be overcompensating for the real holding fouls that go on..

That would mean that blokes like Heath Hocking wouldn't get a game which would be nice.
