who cares about how many players were out and who they are. you can still run, tackle and chase when you don't have the ball. this has been lacking for weeks now.

Port Adelaide is a perfect example that things can change pretty quickly in football, eg. look at them four weeks ago.

Trouble is we've been soft, mentally and physically, for too long this season without showing genuine signs of improvement, just the odd glimpse here and there.

There's still half a season left, so the optimist in me says we can turn this around and come good. But, right now, the realist in me is in stitches, pissing himself laughing at me.

But by doing this.. we probably have to let a guy in the door who will have to battle a shit culture and a stench of past ghosts around the club.

That's probably correct. But we shouldn't be losing in the manner that we are; the GWS and Melbourne wins were more good fortune than a result of hard work.

You don't need to be 6'6" and 100kg or a potential Brownlow medalist to have a fair dinkum crack. For the overwhelming majority of this season we have not had even a basic level of fight or desire for the contest, let alone being harder at it than the opposition. If anything our intensity and determination is getting worse, not better.

The club from all aspects were talking up our chances at the start of the year. We have failed to meet expectation miserably. The fans, and probably more importantly the players, deserve honest answers not excuses about injuries or stats. Those things should assist in delivering outcomes, not drive them.

If we everyone in the club was on the same page and genuinely believed we had a chance to win a flag this year then all the players would be busting a gut to minimise the damage while our injured players are missing. Instead, their coach is giving them excuses for losing (see post-match presser).

It is just not good enough.

We have had mental deficiencies for years now, not weeks. Is that being addressed, or continually excused?

Unfortunately, that appears to be a very easy question to answer.

I've always had the feeling that Roos dislikes Carlton quite a bit - and that's what I find attractive about the idea of him at Carlton.

His team at Sydney played like a team - had defined roles and standards - focused on contested situations - strong bodies, uncompromising and competitive attitudes.

At the moment, we are losing contested situations on the ground and in the air all over the park and I think that's a development issue.

We need to get the spirit back into this group.
