Caz,

How did Mclean end up on Varcoe?

Not sure he did. But his 1st goal of the 2 came when JR gave him room to work by not manning up. The 2nd came when defenders got sucked to Steve J and Steve J dinked a nice little lob wedge kick to Varcoe who had some more space, not alot, but enough. Not sure where Brock comes into those 2 gls and not sure why and how you can pin the tail on Ratts with all that. Well I know why but I just don't know how.

I have it on good authority that at half time Ratten instructed the side not to worry about Varcoe and just to let him go.

I much prefer Setanta.

You're not AFL standard if you jump and come down without even touching the ball...Setanta lost that centre bounce to Hawkins of all people...I'd back Hampson against a Hawkins on every day of the week...Has comfortably leapt over all of the AFL's big men in his senior games.

Criticism of Ratten after this performance is mindboggling stupid.

I've just watched the 1st 2 mins of the 3rd quarter on my PC.

JR started on Varcoe for the quarter. Just prior to Varcoe's 1st goal the ball was in dispute in the middle of the ground for some time. Varcoe actually ran at the ball from on F50 to the edge of square where the ball was but he missed it. He went past the ball and got lost in congestion as the ball got knocked towards the Cats F50. Christensen picked it up and Varcoe ran back towards goal to get the HBR as he went and slotted it. JR is nowhere to be seen. It just so happened Brock was closest to him at the time of receiving the ball.

At the next bounce Brock can be seen in the centre square manning up on Duncan. JR can be seen standing 30 metres off Varcoe. Duncan won the footy and kicked to the lose Varcoe who kicked to Vardy who got the free and kicked a point. After more play the ball ended in a throw-in on the Cats HFF. JR can be seen manning up Varcoe at the throw-in. You can also see Brock manning Duncan. The ball was in dispute and went towards Steve J near the boundary. JR got sucked to Steve J and Varcoe darted forward and got the chip from Steve J. Again it just so happened Brock came in to spoil but was to late. After the goal was kicked you clearly see Armfield now has the job on Varcoe at the next centre bounce. Those 3 possessions took 2 mins of play and JR is seen running to the bench after the Varcoe mark.

For the next 10 mins Varcoe was rarely sighted. Then he followed the ball up the field from the HFF as Carlton ran it out of defense and it ended up on the Blues HFF. At a boundary throwin he actually manned up on Judd near the Blues F50. He followed the progress and got the ball at CHB from a HBR with Wait trying to chase him down. He kicked it forward and the Blues won the ball back again. He was hovering around the centre of the ground unmanned then ran to CHF where the ball was again in dispute. The ball spilled and luckily for him he ran onto it to slot his 3rd. Once again it just so happened that Brock was near him at the time.

So MJ if you want to hang Brock and Ratts for the mistakes of JR and others then go right ahead but a picture paints a thousand words.

Regards Cazzesman

I think it would be best if we all hang JR instead.

I am confused. What about the sydney game?

Wins have been by -
1.14
-1.12 (by six points)
2.4
-1.9 (by 3 points)

hence 1 goal 39 behinds

From the HUN

Quote:
Geelong defender Corey Enright has not been cited for the spoiling attempt that sent Carlton ruckman Robert Warnock to hospital with concussion on Friday night.

The AFL match review panel decided Blues skipper Chris Judd contributed to the contact to Warnock's head."In all the circumstances ... Enright's action was a legitimate spoiling action," the panel said.

It's always Judd's fault

Meanwhile, the Blues have confirmed they will raise a controversial decision from Friday night's Geelong game with the league's umpiring department.

A free kick was awarded against defender Nick Duigan at a critical stage, and Icke is keen for clarification from umpires boss Jeff Gieschen.

Duigan protested to a field umpire, but Carlton denies that he swore and was demonstrative.

"We will be seeking clarity so the young man can know what he can or can't do. It was a decision of significance given it was awarded in front of goal and we lost by two points," Icke said.

Send Jason Armstrong to the VFL.

"Judd was hurt when he kicked Mitch Duncan in the leg before half-time against Geelong on Friday night and spent most of the second half in the forward line."

Carlton has also indicated it will be speaking to the Umpires Department this week, to seek clarification of a free kick paid against defender Nick Duigan for remonstrating with an umpire late in the Blues' two-point loss to Geelong on Friday night. The Cats goaled from the free kick.

Gieschen said today Duigan "didn't just say one or two words, he said quite a bit, so the umpire was obliged to pay a free kick".

COS

Umpire Jason Armstrong is a cauliflower & should be sent back to the VFL

All I ever see is a combined total - Is it known how each coach voted?

On a different note,

As disapointing as the end result was, i gotta thank the two sides for putting a on a great game. I took my 75yr old
Dad, a Geelong supporter, to his first ever AFL game on Fri night and he loved it. I havent been to a game for about 6 years due to work
commitments and raising a young family, so we made the 2 and half hour journey to watch the game live.

Things my Dad mentioned was how easily you made conversation with the people around you regardless who they supported. And especially the
atmosphere of the crowd. One thing I remember him saying to me was, "blimey, going by the roar of the crowd, theres more Carlton supporters than Geelong".

He wants to really go to another game again, and I mentioned the only chance this year is if we meet during the finals.

We better win this time if we play em in the Finals !!!!!
