Oh for God sakes.

Ratts has been a senior coach for how long.... 3 years... and you compare him to Malthouse who has been a senior coach for 26 years.

Not about their coaching abilities, experience, success etc you missed the point Chucky. I raised it in the context who currently has the better "package"
for projecting their respective clubs in the media and generating memberships, the thrust of this whole discussioin, read my first post above.

Mick has the ''better package'' because of his experience and success over a long period.

The club really needs to integrate its interstate supporters more.

They should be aiming to play at least 1 practise/pre season/season game in each state and territory each year, and provide a package for members that include a free ticket to the game, and access to a function run by the club, with all the players in attendance, which can be attended by all members in each state.

I'm not sure what they do now, but we have a huge following interstate. Getting these supporters on board as members will make a large difference to the number.

Not sure about the games, but yes the interstate following is much underutilised.

I've posted elsewhere in various threads but consistently Carlton get the biggest crowds for Port/Adelaide games over here.

Port game - Carlton had the biggest non Derby crowd last season at AAMI.
Adelaide game - As above & the Geelong Friday Night game.

Hawthorn's jump is directly correlated with their success, as is Geelong's. That said, Costa knows who to acquire to get a club going. Smorgon doesn't. Kennett doesn't. Dicker, I wouldn't know. Bad examples.

As Chucky noted, Mick has been in the caper a long, long time and only became a media darling a few years back.

I think Carlton needs to sell the benefit of being a member better, and not just in terms of seats - especially for the interstate memberships. I live in Kalgoorlie and so usually don't even get to see them play when they come to Perth. Being a member is a bit like donating to Blues charity. Happy to do so but it isn't really promoting itself to the wavering supporters. My wife thinks I'm nuts for fronting up for it, saying it's just a waste of money as we don't live in Melb. All I can argue is the indefinable qualities / belongingness of being a member (which works about as well as Gold Coasts' forwardline).

As has been said by others before, the voting benefits, the benefits of being a member should be pushed. If they don't want to add merchandise value to their memberships (as reduces profits), they then have to add value/importance to those elements that don't cost them money.

Full credit to the SOC though, doing an outstanding job.

excellent point!!

Thanks guys.

I get to sit in on the SOC executive meetings and have been very impressed with the way the executive conduct their business. Priority number one two and three is the benefit of the Carlton Football Club past and present above all else.

I've never seen Mick's package. Maybe you have.

Not that there's anything wrong with that....

BTW, even with the new media manager.......

We're still operating like we're in Eliot's days. Could we not have found a more professional looking photo than one of her in her gym clothes? Yeah, I know....... but fair dinkum, if there's anyone out there that can't find the good sites on the internet, just IM...... er .... KK, and he'll send you some URLs. But have a press release of her in a suit with a Carlton logo behind her as the first time it hits the media, not the heavy breathing "...look what we have, a blonde hottie, rub hands, hehehehe...."

Are you both complaining about this?

But isn't it funny that the fans are screaming for more professionalism from the club, but they can only greet this news with "hubbahubba" type comments?

I'm partially with you there, Lurker, but it was a PR puff-piece, most likely released to the press by the club, or someone close to the Comms department. in which case, they would have supplied an image to go with the release.
