So since Toyota Prius and Hummers have been discussed - heres something different - but way cheaper and much more effective at being green - but maybe a bit too effective for the likings of the oil industry and the government.
4 cents per litre to fill your car - and a 25% climate change emissons reduction while you drive -
how about that?
A conversion to an existing ICE (Internal combustion engine) car to run on CNG costs about $3500.
University of California studies show that instant greenhouse gas reductions of 25-26% are achieved using natural gas in cars.–

CNG can be blended with up to 20% hydrogen and result in emission reductions of over 30% -

This is the most cost effective way to achieve substantial climate change emission reductions without compromising drivability, apart from the need to refual a bit more frequently than with petrol, NGV cars are no different to drive..
It is also possible to install a home refuelling pump - the cost per litre to refuel overnight at home is around 4 cents per litre. -

So with such clear and very do-able environmental advantages, why is it that there will be 1 million government subsidised NGV conversions in the Middle East by 2010 and 50 million worldwide by 2020 - yet our government says that NGV's are 'problematic'
I might add that in the case of the Middle East, the NG conversions in that part of the world are hopelessly uneconomic - as in many cases, petrol is priced at 40 cents per litre or lower - yet there will be 1 million of then by 2010....
If 75 percent of Canadian Motorists can access to Natural Gas at Service Stations :

Could it be that given that Aust has large Natural Gas reserves, government policy in Australia is being compromised - to the disadvantage of everyone - by the short term needs and desires of the oil industry?
