Based on the glimpses we have seen I reckon Byrne will make HBF his own - this will allow Buckley or Doc to move further up the field

No doubt in my mind Byrne will take a defensive post.
I have him ahead of Sheehan and some suggest Sheehan is a lock in defense if fit.

Both Docherty and Buckley can head further up the ground.

I think Sumner will make FP his own and Buckley will be competing for that position.

There will be injuries....but not as many as the last 2 seasons...I hope...we could'nt!

The best bit about Byrne is he's shown he's capable in a forward position too. So creative and lots of tricks.

Simpson, Jamison, Plowman
Byrne, Weitering, Tuohy
Docherty, Gibbs, Buckley
Everitt, Jaksch, Graham
Sumner, Casboult, Walker

Kreuzer
Cripps
Murphy

Inter- Curnow, Thomas, White, Kerridge

On the cusp:

Armfield
Holman
Boekhorst
Sheehan

Incredibly, 13 of that 22 did not play Rd23 last year. If we finish last in 2016, sure as hell we'll be better than what we were in 2015!

Well yeah we just came 18th out of 18 so that's a given. Very short on top end midfield talent but an ok core of good young players.

Cripps, Murphy & Gibbs need outstanding support from Whiley / Tuohy / Lamb / Docherty / Picks / Curnow / Armfield.

Forward line needs luck and a rework. Casboult and Everitt plus Walker could do 60-70 between them but it is not enough. We really need some other emerging player - Buckley, Sumner, Lamb??? to bring another 30 and the midfield group to be obvious up there.

Overall we need a team first mentality which clearly fell apart both in Malthouses' last 6 weeks and occasionally under Barker.

Gonna try and name our worst 22, just to see how uncompetitive it could be in the second half of the season:

FB: Dick White Jaksch
HB: Gowers Rowe DVR
C: Smith Walsh Holman
HF: Sumner Jones Kerridge
FF: Lamb Foster Tutt

RR: Korcheck Whiley Graham

Int: Warnock Plowman Sheehan Armfield

That's pretty bad, but an improvement on last year.

Without knowing who most of them will be, our first four upcoming picks as well as no 1 PSD pick will walk straight into that team.

By year end the best 22 would have filtered out a bit - with the influx of players it may take a while but I think it will be along the lines of:

B. Byrne Jamison Tuohy
HB. Simpson Weitering Plowman
C. Kerridge Cripps Docherty
HF.. Boeky Casboult White
F. Sumner Walker Everitt

R. Krooze Gibbs Murphy

Int. Phillips Graham Buckley Curnow

NB. New players from Round 23....: Byrne, Weitering, Docherty, Kerridge, Murphy, Gibbs, Sumner, White, Phillips, Graham, Armfield, Plowman

Can't see Thomas missing so I assume you think he will be unfit.

Probably a mix of unfit, seeing him as a terrible decision, a Collingwood player and lastly not seeing a good game. Perhaps on the HFF pinch hitting on ball; perhaps taking Graham's spot?

I think Thomas would like to repay the club.
If it all ended for him in 2015 it wouldn't be a good look and would tarnish his reputation.
No one would like that, so Im expecting a big year from him.

We need forwards, and when on song he's good, especially in the one on one situations.

It is the midfield where we have to win to allow us to be competitive, and can't help having big bodied mids in the guts with fleet footed elusive types on the outside.

No doubt Kreuzer will be first ruck and part of the big bodied midfield brigade, but we need for Gibbs to stand up next to Cripps in the trenches and ideally would love to see Plowman in there with them with Curnow and Kerridge coming in from a wing to tag then HF's, maybe Thomas or Docherty pushing up the the wing to cover Curnows opponent.

The other fleet footed players on the outside would be Murphy, Boekhurst and Simpson. If Sumner can be fit and have a dip in the midfield and find his old explosive pace then we have a midfield group that could stand up to the bigger named midfields like:

Hawks: Lewis, Mitchell with Hodge Burgoyne
WEC: Priddis,Redden Shuey with Yeo Gaff
Freo: Fyfe Mundy Barlow with Crowley etc
Cats 2016: Selwood Dangerfield with Selwood Bartel Gunston

Big bodied mids will help us win contests and gain possession.

If we have the ball, the opposition don't. That's a good start.

If our mids get slaughtered, the backs have no hope stopping the baall coming in and the forwards never see it.
If the mids break even, the backs have time to see what is happening in front of them and the forwards get some good delivery to go with the crap.
If our mids are on top and the coach has a plan other than bomb it to Sticks/Fev/Levi, they should get some good delivery and the backs will have an easier job when the ball comes in under pressure.

Where to begin?

Our best 22 is a joke. We are lucky to have 10 proven decent players

That's what happens when you flower up the draft for 6 years straight.

Murphy
Gibbs
Kruezer
Cripps
Docherty
Touhy
Simpson

Are our top 7 by a mile

Then
Everitt
Jamison
Walker (if fit)
Thomas (if fit)
Maybe Buckley

Umm then we are speculating
