Very much in the position of nervous hope so many factors have to come together

Let’s hope he has learnt from his mistakes

And most importantly how will he be innovative
Time will tell
Sayers always wanted a big name

Personally I would have gone for Kingsley

Always thought Simmo for captain.

Voss had this to say in a HUN interview today

- better and more well rounded coach than when he was sacked by Brisbane in 2013
- developed a whole new skill since then including leadership; communication; relationships; bringing people together
- now is the time to pour all my IP into Carlton
- need to get a good coaching group together
- need to look at who we bring in and who goes out
- get around the players (I assume individually as he has already had a zoom meeting with them)
- there will be uncomfortable conversation but the future is exciting
- there is an acceptance of change at Carlton
- emphasis on the contest and defence
- not individual brilliance but collective movement he will press the hardest on
- as a kid totally committed blues fan

Totally great interview. Hope the deeds match the words.

Let’s hope Voss and Cook stay for a long journey
Any organization can’t have a good culture when guys are being sacked every couple of years.

The club must stabilize
And I want to see something onfield that will become success which I mentioned in my dot points

You are obviously not in a management position!!

And if you are you should be sacked!!

Show some enthusiasim in the future not our past failings!

What a depressing person!! Motivating people is defintley not your forte!

That's our history for the last 20 years. Shown enthusiasm with a new coach before only to have it bite us on the arse. Not falling for it again.

I'll show enthusiasm once I actually see real change, not talk. Sustained change, not just for a year. I'm talking the players here, not the coach, as that's where it has to come from. Had 20 years of false promises.

Meh, i thought it was pretty lame

resign Sam Walsh - well, awww der
Take the pressure down - oagree to an extent in terms of external messaging but whats wrong with expecting the best?
Be transparent about clarko - who cares, he didn't get the job.
GET THE RIGHT GROUP AROUND VOSS ... AND FIX THE LEAKY BOAT - absolutely
DEVELOP THE RIGHT RELATIONSHIPS - agreed
NAIL THE TRADE PERIOD ... AND GET THE LIST TO FINALLY FIRE - same could be said for every other club

Thought it was well written. A couple were obvious. Addresses where the issue is, the culture. No playing finals unless that's sorted, unless we fluke it with 10 wins. That why, when Sayers said he expected finals with the next coach I face palmed. Have to sort the main issue that has hurt us for 20 years. The place is a snake pit.

Not how I read his post at all Trigger. I thought it sounded quite reasonable.

So far we've tried without success:
Club legend (Ratten)
Ageing successful coach who was past it, (Malthouse)
First time coach selected after thorough "process". (Bolton)
Caretaker coach who showed early success. (Teague)

So now we're going for :
Coach who was dismal failure first time around. (Voss).

I like it. Fresh enough to be enthusiastic but with enough scarring to have learned from past mistakes.

I reckon it will mostly come down to how well the club supports him, (fingers crossed some learning has happened there too).

Of those ones you mentioned- Bolton should never have even been considered. Playing Tasmanian football to a high standard is not the same as playing AFL. Expecting some of Clarkson's magic dust to rub off on a small guy with a calming/relaxed voice was just plain odd.

Who was behind that coaching selection? Who was on the panel? Actually, don't tell me. I don't want to know. And they stuck with him for years as well. So depressing looking back on those years.

At least today there are rays of sunshine. Cripps, McKay, Weitering, Walsh, Jones etc.

Re: Voss. I kind of think there is a symbolic parallel with the Greg Williams story. Let's hope it is equally successful with a piece of silverware at the end of it.

At least twice Williams tried to play for Carlton - 1981 - knocked back, then finally in 1992 he got to Carlton.

At least twice Voss tried to get to Carlton - before Teague was selected, and then finally in 2022 he got to Carlton.

Voss is home! Let's hope it works out that way.

Goodaye mate
Well you got two things right
never held a management position
Never was that good at motivating fellow employees
Wasn’t bad with kids
I was a teacher
You know I love the Dirty Harry Movies
Clint is the best but also some sayings are metaphors for life
“ A mans got to know his limitations “
I know mine unlike many of the managers I have had.

Also as I said I hope Voss Cook and Sayers can steer us in the right direction.

I’m not a depressing guy by the way
Trust me if you care
But as a mate said to me once and it was the profound thing ever said to me
“ You judge someone on 90% what they do 10% what they say”

So let’s see what happens
Have a great night
Love Keogh

it's been mentioned a few times that Brian Cook has a 7 point appraisal for selecting a coach. Technical ability is 20%, leadership and cultural abilities score 25%.
Therein lies the answer for why Michael Voss is our coach IMHO. I have no doubt Kingsley is a better tactician but Voss has put his emphasis on leadership, culture and people management. They are quite rightly the qualities with the greatest weighting in Cook's formula. And they are the qualities that we are desperate for.
We can bring in tactical nous and innovation and hopefully that is the priority. The key is for Voss to understand his strengths, accept his weaknesses and embrace those around him who will fill those voids. If he's truly a great leader, that shouldn't be an issue.
Time will tell.

The key is getting a great assistant coaching group together.

Then it’s important that they work really well together and not play politics and score points off each other.

Without those improvements/ upgrades then its all talk, without substance

Line in the sand.

Finals 22 is the target.

I don't know if Voss will be a success, but I agree with the theory that you can support a great leader with tactical experts.

Not all coaches are the same - clarkson is not the same as Goodwin, who is not the same as Bomber Thompson. Who is not the same as Longmire or Roos.

People talk about the merry go round of coaches at Carlton, but equally I don't think it's been a particularly stable or attractive club for top assistants. Not many Carlton assistants have gone on to be short-listed for senior job openings in recent years. I'm interested and optimistic to see how they are going to manage to lure some great assistant coaching talent to Princes Park.

One thing that does excite me about voss is his emphasis on developing a team of competitors. We've been calling out for that at Carlton since pagan walked in the door.
