Us, up...whatever... I prefer 'us' for the reason stated earlier - 'they' (whoever - AFL, angels, tick a box) send 'us' (the team, the club) to conquer.

The bit that annoys me more is hearing 'ends up' (the players do it regularly). It's 'end up'. You know...end of the bargain...part of the battlefield...whatever the historical sense is. Feels good. United. Collective. Ends up? Just sounds like we didn't sit down at any time during play. That's a relief.

Anyway...please let's hear all possible versions as loudly as possible after smashing the drug cheats this weekend. Come to think of it, a more appropriate version would be, 'With all the injections they like to send us...'

Oh, and great effort against Freo, Baggers. Some exciting stuff amongst the dross.

And special mention to Murph after dropkick Jon Ralph rated him 5/10 as a captain, lower than any other. He doesn't deserve the shit he cops. It can't be easy leading a limited rabble for years on end without trying to snipe someone into a point post or inject a Brownlow.

Omg. Not that old chestnut again. Like all things in modern society, like "wake up and smell the coffee" and "sooner rather than later", this has now been bastardised.

But let me assure you all, when we were kids, it was definitely "send up", not "send us", which incidentally doesn't make sense, doesn't rhyme, and has no rhythm with the rest of the song.

Blue dog is correct.

How do you know Blue Dog's correct?

We are around the same age mosche. I have never seen it referred to as Send Up (an American saying) till I saw it in a thread on TC. All the print I've seen from 60's 70's and 80's and prior always stated "Send us". It makes sense to me when it was explained. I take your point regading rhyme and rhythm, but that looks to me a kid who has decided it doesn't fit so they changed it so it makes sense to them. Rebel!

In fact the oldest references to the song in print, should sort this old chest nut. I'm a traditionalist for all things Carlton, and if there is evidence that Send Up was used and printed before Send Us then I'm a convert. Till that time I'll stick to tradition.

I heard of the explanation of the reference to "They" being the Heavens and the greater powers of God, from Bert Deacon's mate a Mr Reid back in 1969-70 as I was always curious about the reference to "They", and who they were. I met Bert that day and Bert gave me a members medallion.

Would love to know the truth.

Bondi, Bondi, Bondi. I don't think we're the same age. Unless you're really referring to some other "mosche".

How old are you?

I met you in Chinatown restaurant in Sydney a couple of years ago with Agro, The Doc...
We were on the same round table. I was out all night prior to getting there...Peter Pan Syndrome.

You're a grandfather. I'm old enough to be grandfather. I'm a few years younger.
You look older. I look younger.
I drink more. I'm preserved.

My first Carlton game was the 1968 GF.

Yes, I remember all that. I just wanted to know how old you are so we can be accurate.

Oh, and btw, I don't look older.......

You don't look your age. You look younger. Shocked me you were a grandfather....then I realised my situation. I think we are 6 years diff.

Just watched this game again.

Really, really impressed by the defensive pressure we showed. We mightn't have the skills or system yet to chop teams up. But fantastic effort and competitiveness.
Class, senior players make a huge difference. Late goals to Murphy and Gibbs. Really missed Murph went he went down later in the year.
Knew Weitering was special. But forgotten how special. Just his class and ability to make the right decisions in contests. It's going to be fun watching him for the next decade.
Going to miss Byrne. Made some huge clangers, but just kept competing. Speed, size, skill. We'll be a far better team in 2018 when he comes back properly.

Knew Dwayne Russell was a knob. But forgotten how big a knob. Anti-Carlton as always, but also commentating by means of the crowd reaction. Very, very annoying. It'd be great if you could actually choose which commentators to stream with the broadcast.
