You're therefore making the slightly xenophobic assumption that Australian goods = good, Chinese goods = not.
Aside from that, I would imagine your view is in the minority given how few supporters seem to upgrade to what is in the Carlton shop, and instead wear the membership wear to games. I'm not a massive fan of it myself, but its not a make or break issue for me.
I'm making the point that in my world I would prefer products made by the country I live in to boost employment here. If that's manufacturing xenophobia then so be it.
In terms of what you think is a minority or a majority is irrelevant to me. People can make their own choices. What other people care to do is their business. Just like what I choose to do is my business.
I'm a proud Australian manufacturer. Good onya Baz.
I have had to cut back the number of employees drastically over the last 2 years and outsourced stuff within Australia. I do this because I like to employ Australians. I left a senior role in Corporate to start a company to produce quality products as a result of my experience allowing architects to buy Chinese crap : it is everywhere disguised as quality.
Mates of mine manufacture in China and they admit the quality is hit and miss because you can't supervise every item.
I know there will come a time soon I will have to offer an inferior but cheaper line of products for THAT market segment. This year I will make 2 components there. I know there will be some units which don't make the grade, but It will still save me $ for the item and create a job here to quality control the component. Australian manufacturing is a sitting duck. Tick tick tick...unless Aussies embrace Aussie made.
I received my membership pack and a wonderfully scripted email from Clinton explaining the process in response to a friendly email I sent seeking to understand the workings of membership dept and merchandising. Great to receive a personal response rather than a generic response.
My kids just ordered $700 worth of customised Carlton merchandise from the website...obviously made in China, but hey we don't have a choice. I can't take my kids into the Carlton shop anymore. We do it twice a year and we always walk out of there with $2-300 worth of merchandise. Suckers. Kids love the stuff to show their Swans supporting mates. Not much in there is made in Australia.
Everyone looks better in Dark Navy Blue.
