Having said that, Davies in the side allowed us to start Walker forward and keep Yarran up front for most of the game. Who else comes in to allow us that luxury? White and Duigan both too slow. Laidler was underdone as it is. O'Keeffe injured, etc. etc. I doubt we played him on merit.

In an ideal world, Simpson is no longer in our best 22. He's gone from being the best run and carry player in the competition to offering very little in that regard, and not quick enough or a good enough kick to get by on other tools. Again, very little else challenging his spot. Curnow, or when eligible to play, Dale. Whilst I think the latter is definitely long term replacement, not just yet.

Our centre bounce structures were ordinary again. You won't see a more dominant non-Sandilands ruck display all for naught as it was today.

Not sure where you go with Bootsma from here.

Im not worried about Bootsma.
But we should bring Watto in next week on Hawkins.

Surely you jest.

Watts would be diabolical on Hawkins.

I keep forgetting we have him on our list.

The biggest annoyance for me today were the differing kick outs.

On one hand when collingwood scored a behind, they would zone/press up into position immediately and someone would man the mark 2m out from the goal square and immediately pressure our kick taker should he decide to play on. When our players kicked to themselves from a kick in they would take 3 steps and face immediate pressure and would only be able to kick to 55-60m.

On the other hand when our boys kicked a behind it was a light jog to position and the bloke on the mark (a few times this was Yarran) would stand 8-10m out from the goal square and lightly jog in the direction that the pies player would choose to play on to, allowing him to run to 25m from goal and execute a long kick to 70m from goal.

It may seem minor, but these easy metres over 120 mins of footy and the lazy mindset are worth their weight in gold. Pies always wanted to apply all the pressure they could whilst our boys chose when to apply it. Until these chinks are ironed out we will only be a middle of the road team

Absolutelyagree....have a look the next time a Carlton player mans the mark after a mark from the opposition...give them 2-3 metres every single time...its a game of 1%ers, kills me everytime i see it.

For someone like Boots he really needs the rest of the core group to have some steel and all the systems to be working. Plus, it was wet, he's 191+cm built like a twig and his opponent is shorter than my 14 year old daughter but built like a brick BBQ.

..agreed, the way he plays ought to be the team standard.. ..fav player by far..

I thought Malthouse coached well today and got his match-up's right.
Collingwood just wanted the win in the end and except for a limited few, our boys waited for some-one else to do it.
Seen it before with these guys unfortunately.

Malthouses matchups were perplexing to say the least.
I still BELIEVE most likely ruck man to dominate is Warnock

Lol

Kruz is five times the ruckman 206 is

That might be true, however I sometimes think some of our blokes are still hesitant with regard to the holding the ball rule and sliding rule, afraid they'll get pinged ala Bell in the first quarter. Similarly they may think that if the opponent goes for the ground ball first, we'll be able to get a free when we tackle them.

I blame the rules committee. :donk:

hey guys, first ever post...

look, pies are a top 2-4 side...hate them but that's the facts. We hung in bloody well, lacked class in the end. Can,t go too balastic when perhaps that is where we are at. Sure we have weak links, hopefully MM will sus all that out over the next month or so

Unfortunately our list is our list...if we can fine tune, great- however no point potting everybody for a mistake here and there. For what it is worth, I thought the effort today was good, mistakes yes, but there were some exciting passages of play. I will be there again next week(unfortunately next to my Geelong wife) but will tip the blues to win by 18 points.......

Yeah. He only took us from a wooden spoon in his first year to 12th in his fifth year.

Mick took the Pies from 13th in his first year to 13th in his fifth year.

Hmm, what happened in between?

Tears.

so we were worried about tackling in the pre season due to injuries.... hmmm our injury list is pretty long (yes I know that sh!t happens)
the lack of tackling practice sure paid off today.....

though in saying that we were still in the game with 2 minutes left, even though we were out on our feet and we had to MASSIVELY cover Davies... he is a spud. Bootsma, he's learning and will be good. Armfield - very inconsistent today  Carrots, was very quiet and not himself, and Zach, man, I love watching him though, it was painful today.

Simpson needs to shave that flower beard off, Hendo up forward was great. I agree with Synners, Warnock will be great. Even in the forward, if we are going to continue to bomb the ball in, at least their bloody backmen will have to get of the ground a fair bit.
They had a few out, so did we. We'll get there, slow start and we'll be settling into the program nicely in the mid-end of the season. Hampson, Betts, Waite, Scotland all back will tighten us up. Mick is great with the fringe players, he's getting some games into Lucas, Boots etc

Bring it on, we'll be fine, no wrist slitting please.

We are, I AM CARLTON!!!!

Nothing.
The game is all about winning premierships.

Unless you're St Kilda of course.

Let me get this straight BV..... Are you saying Ratten was a good coach???.... or a better coaching option than Malthouse???

Haven't posted in a while but I need to today.

Can someone please teach Bootsma how to shepherd and not just jog behind and watch his team mate get run down. Is this not a required thing in football anymore?

Give the ball off, put your bleeping arms out boy!!!

Not clean enough across the board today. Experienced players of ours were far too fumbly.

Murphy failed dismally in the last when it was time to stand up and play a captains quarter. I heard Joel Selwood had 11 final term disposals at 100% efficiency today. Probably throw a couple of tackles in there as well.

Now that is leadership.

We need a few more steps backward before we can go forward unfortunately.

Kreuz was great, but like every other midfield type we have on the list he's great 1 way......

Jolly off before he served a sweat, their only backup plays ruck the whole game and ends up with the 3rd highest possessions on the ground...it really is symptomatic of what is so [REDACTED] up with this club....
