You're absolutely right, moshe.

However, I think a back-page headline reading RATTEN ANSWERS QUESTION POORLY would be freaking awesome. So would MALTHOUSE HURT MY FEELINGS and VOSS TRIPS OVER OWN CLICHES.

Truth in journalism, I say.

Interesting to hear Lyon talk about the defensive structures at Freo. How they like Duffield to be the spare player when the ball's around half back, so he can run and rebound. But when the ball's deeper, they like Johnson to be the spare player, so he can spoil in marking contests. That's the kind of attention to defensive detail I hope/expect to see under Malthouse.

In response to my question (on BF) if we were any chance for a midfield coach next year,

A chance but no guarantee. O'Bree stiffed us. Still looking, won't fill it for filling its sake - Wiley could do it if Mick can't find the right guy (recently retired type)

Hang on a minute, we had a full time tackling coach??

Pity Harris has gone, he did wonders for the Bullants once he stepped in.

Looking at that list of coaches, I think we are in need of a recently retired midfield player from a decent team to head that group. There's a generational gap there.

Who would the players go to on the coaching panel who could relate to them as modern day players?

Shame Ling changed his mind he would have been perfect.

Any way of inducing Jude Bolton to retire. Best tackler in the league and Swans ethos.

As per EP, that is exactly what we are looking at.
It sounds like O'Bree also did a Ling.

Not sure if we could induce it, but I'd say there's still a chance he will retire.
Would be a perfect candidate.

This might be a stupid question, but why did we let Williams go?

Must have thought he wasn't good enough, but also that Mick doesn't think a specific stoppages coach is necessary.

It have something to do with the fact we went from the best clearsnce side to one of the worst

And that's a good enough reason for me too.

Fancy focussing on stoppages and failing with clearances....when clearances was a strength.

Geez that's ordinary.

Was it Williams' fault?

I'd suggest losing Carrots and Judd for chunks didn't help, and it seemed that teams were putting a lot more work into us at stoppages than 2011, in terms of where they positioned their own players vs ours.

But that can't explain all of it, so bye bye Williams.

When Judd was out we won 3 out of 4 games, albeit against very low opposition. We cannot say Judd's suspension had anything to do with 2012 weaknesses.

In truth the season was lost well before then. Rounds 4-16 featured many horrific losses and a handful of wins, Freo, Melbourne and COllingwood. In those games our midfield was swarmed with numbers and they didn't generally allow us to get the soft handball out to clear; they covered our options. When you couple that with a feeble ruck division in that time - they allowed Warnock to play despite no pre-season and Hammer was only allowed up forward - we generally struggled in the compression. No lateral thinking; no quick kicks out, no real third man up, no options.

In that time I think our entire midfield coaching group were lost for ideas. Not surprised he's gone.

Oh come on, they tried the 'three rucks' option. That went well.....
