Intrigue abounds... But as I don't have any inside or outside information, I'll just go on about the team.

5 changes is a lot at this time of year, but it's what you do when you must. I think they are pretty good.
Very happy to see Army back. And I'm looking forward to seeing how Browne goes. I really like the way he goes about it, and really hope he makes it.
Hopefully Johnson finds life on the half forward more to his liking. He kicked a few last week in the twos, so hopefully he can replicate it again on the big stage.

This will be tough. We don't seem to match up well against the 'Cows', but hopefully the extra run we have in the side gets us over the line. We'll need it to try break through Adelaide's defense and structures.

Hopefully some of the midfielders can knock into Judd's tagger often enough to give Judd some separation and a chance for some clean ball.

How do people think we will line up defensively?

Despite the perception, Crowes are not that great at contested possesions. It was in the paper over here (Adelaide) that Crowes were about 13th in the AFL. We were about 5th or 6th.

It's not the contested possesions we're worried about. It's what we do with the ball in our hands that is of most concern. They'll let us get as much of the pill as we want, and if our movement isn't 100% up to scratch that's when they strike, and they're trained very well for this purpose.

Hopefully the changes ensure that we not only kick goals in the first half but we also smash the adelaide blows by 6 goals and send them home with their tails between their legs as they did to us.

Really want this win!!! Say that every week though.

Go blueboys!!

After losing SoV so early in the last game we really have 5 ins and 4 outs from last time

I don't understand why we are going in as favorites against this mob when they have won the past 6 games.

http://afl.allthestats.com/teams/teamvteam.php?t1=3&t2=0

We have struggled to kick any type of score. They know our gameplan to well, kick it to Fev or kick it to Fev so they peel off and flood back into the space to restrict Fev.
The crumbing and pace around the forward line will be sorely missed, hopefully Walker, Yarran and maybe Brown stay down there.
They setup their attacks from our forward50, have pinpoint skill and run and can hit up targets into their forward50 very easy.
If we are outnumbered in our forward line all game we are gone. Hopefully Rats learned from the first half at AAMi in RD.9

I've had enough of losing to this mob, time to draw a line in the sand and get this bogey team of our backs and goto into the finals on a high rather than a low.

Come on Blues...

The side this week doesn't look as strong to me

Hammer for Cloke - gives you more hit outs but less around the ground
Armfield for Ando- in front here
Johnson for Who - Hadley Betts - dont know not sold on Johnson
Browne see Johnson
Yarren for Garlett - at this early stage you would have to say Jeff is in front of Chris

I would have like them to get Grigg in there for Hadleys role and say to him the same they said to Hadley- don't kick it

Armfield -> A must .. his pace and run off half-back cuts teams to shreds, and his defensive work is outstanding.

Hampson -> A must .. Obvious choice as the number 1 ruckman, and was injured last week.

Yarran -> A must .. Need him to get more a taste at senior level and does have a few tricks up his sleeve.

Browne -> Yet to be proven .. I have question marks over Browne, for one, his kicking and decision making is terrible, he needs to prove it to me and the rest of the carlton faithful that he is ready to cement a spot in the team

Johnson -> Is it his last game for carlton? .. Apparently he has a great kick, but even if he has a great kick, he still somehow manages to turn it over. again and again and again. His one-on-one defensive side is not that great either. I put him in the same recycled basket as Bentley.

We were certainly too tall in defence last time we squared up against them, at which point they just started smashing our already short-changed midfield, and we couldn't compete with their work-rate through the game.

I think we're currently at the other end of the spectrum; we couldn't possibly go any shorter in a KP to non-KP sense. If Hampson was a realistic threat in the forward half, I would be happy with the line-up, but he's not and it's a concern.

If we do not clamp their forward 50 entires into scrappy kicks AND suffer our usual lapses of defensive positioning at contests, we will be carved by an outfit that will either out-mark us in their forward half or use the height to feed their smalls. Two talls is not enough and Austin needs to be rushed back in next week; he is an on-going requirement for every team bar the Bulldogs & maybe Essendon*.

Much of Adelaide's run starts from their shorter defenders like Macleod & Johnkock. As soon as an Adelaide player gets the ball in the defensive circle watch these two take off, usually unchecked.
Another thing they do well is putting maximum pressure on our kick outs. It was agonising to watch our attemts to get out of our defensive half last time, while they flew out of theirs with ease.
At the end of the day, I think that we have a midfield advantage, if everyone plays to their ability. Our midfielders all had stinkers in Adelaide & surely won't all have a bad day together again.

Really looking forward to tomorrow's game. It'll be a good pointer for us, being able to beat a well drilled, defensive side.

Walker gets another run before the finals. Army gets another game's experience and Browne gets a chance to put forward his reasons for playing next month. I love watching our guns play, but seeing our up and comers go about it is great. Especially when they are coming along nicely (otherwise known as doing a JR). :smoking:

Plus, the last chance for Judd and Murph to pick up some important votes. And Carrot's last chance to bolster his NRS chances.

Also a chance to show that a real team can replace several of its parts and still win.
Last week the oracle was pretty good. I think her rest in the reserves did her some good.
The Friday Oracle (on Saturday again)
The team believes it can win.
Do the supporters?
As the team and the supporters should be as one in mind, then cast off your nagging doubts, and BELIEVE.
That horse called FAITH is waiting for you to get back on,and take her all the way to victory.
Blues...by several giddyups and a whinny.

(umm,I checked with Oracle, and for those without imagination to see this horsie called faith,it's ok to use public transport.)

Not good news for Grigg. He has really dropped off. 5 players go out, only one dropped on form. 5 players and 3 emergencies named who didn't play last week. So Grigga is behind 8 elevations to the squad this week plus 4 of the players out from last week plus certainties like Waite and Jamo who are injured. I know that is not scientific but at the moment he appears to be about #30 on the list.

I had thought he'd be a huge improver this year and the club were desperate to play him early. He is young and hopefully will take big steps but seems to have stalled. Interesting to hear comments about his kicking, I thought it used to be okay so he must be really down on confidence if he can't hit a target in the Ants. Mind you if we dropped everyone who couldn't hit a target we'd be fielding about ten a week. Love Wiggo but his disposal is shocking and he has a number of mates who inexplicably can't consistently kick or handball to a team mates hands when under no pressure.

having said that Wiggo has looked good at halfback despite some fumbles and turnovers. Might have finally got to the position he came over as - not sure why he hasn't been persisted with there in the past.

I don't feel confident with this one but if we win we would go into the first final at home against a local rival with huge confidence. It would be very disappointing to finally get back into the finals and then have to go to Brissy. Don't even want to think of our previous record setting finals performances at the Gabbatoir.

The whole Cloke issue has a touch of irony. In March Cloke was ensconced in the first choice team and Setanta was a whisker away from a flight back to Ireland. Now Cloke looks set for the delist and Setanta should get a new contract (and Cloke's indiscretion will help.)

I'd argue otherwise

Any truth to the rumour that Russell & Walker left the track early yesterday, and could be in doubt as is Hammer ? :yikes:

I would like to play Brisbane, but that then depends on the Swans beating Brisbane tonight. At the end of the day I just want to be able to see us play in a final, would be disappointing if after all this wait we play interstate.
