What a weirdo, why would you kick a man when he's down? Tough man syndrome, what a gutless act, even if Cloke did say something to him, no need for it.

Doc, for arguments sake, what if Cloke told Carlos his mother wasn't a nice person.

Is the punch acceptable in that situation?

In the boxing ring! Not on the ground!!!

So Carlos' reaction to a slur on his mother [this is all hypothetical people, so please relax], is to say, let's take this in the ring?

You know that's seriously unlikely and that he would react to the comment, there and then as most people would.

Update - Doc, Carlos would not have heard sledging from team-mates.

Melvey - can I ask you this - do you think Setanta should stay at Carlton?

Im split 50/50 on it. Who knows why he snapped? thats what i'd be trying to work out and from there the club and leadreship group must make a decision.

Fev himself said that he is a good bloke and feels for him.

These guys are not programed robots - they make mistakes like you an i under stress. Something must have seriously ticked him off to do that. No one loses it like that for no reason.

Honestly i think he is frustrated and i do hope he gets all the help he can get and they slowly work through any issues he may have deep inside of him

but he needs to learn how to control his emotions.

He has let his team mates and everyone at the club down

we cant just cut him loose - that would be a pretty low act from the club

suspend him yes ,but i think as a club we should be working through his issues with him and making sure he is mentally fit at the least before dumping him and sending him on his way

Do you remember Nicky Winmar going beserk against us? That was one of the saddest things I have seen in football and in hindsight his actions were understandable.

lets makes one thing clear, we didn't provoke him into that

It is a sad sad world, which is why people fixat on things that are as mindless as footy players hitting each other - its escape from the crap going on in the real world.

DUC - it happens all the time and we, justifiably so, don't hear about it. Cloke would have been shitting bricks if Setanta had of got up from the wrestle and said "I'm not done with you yet - we're getting the gloves on today"...

AS for the last point - he's been around enough years to know that sledging goes on in the intra-clubs...if it wasn't directed at him in the past - it certainly was today - and not just by Cameron Cloke.

And people lap it up, which is what sells newspapers, gets people clicking on the link and watching the incident on TV.

It's very sad to see a guy who is a fundamentally sound person deteriorate in the way he did earlier today. I know a lot of us saw the documentary on Sentanta and you couldn't feel anything but admiration for him after watching it. He comes from a wonderful family and it took a lot of courage to come across to Australia and give a new sport a go. Having said that, I think today is a build up of frustration which appears to have started since Pagan left. His brother clearly had issues with club (and possibly the playing group) and the only way you can rationalize what happened is to think he feels like an outsider and disconnected from the core of the club. I hope this is not the end of the journey because it held such promise. I also agree with an earlier poster that I hope Sentanta uses this as a way to deal with his anger issues and that the club doesn't just cut him loose -- to do so right now would seem callous.

I do Mark - and I'd hate to think any racial sledging was used. I doubt Cameron Cloke would stoop to that level.

I highly doubt it too.

Too be honest I think its probably just a case that Setanta is a bit of a hot head and just snapped. I just happen to think people should have all the facts so they can make informed decisions rather than knee jerk reactions. The facts may be that it was as it seems a complete brain snap with no mitagating cirumstances but none of us know what was going on in his head. I would prefer to trust the club has improved both on and off field enough to make the correct decision and bot be influenced by outside influences like the Hun.
