+1 we also have the most under done / unfit list in memory. The amount of players who missed large chunks of preseason or are playing with minor injuries is most of the list. People here excel so much in player and coach bashing without knowing the full story - it's depressing

You have poor memory - go back to 2012. We had are worse run at it than this year (injury/preparation).

wasn't considered a valid excuse in 2012 even though we ended up with 11 wins. Why should it be a valid excuse now?

That isn't quite right - Ratten left the team with a better defence than what we have now - even if you take into account 2012 injuries.

2010 - carlton was ranked 9th on points against and 7th on game %
2011 - carlton was ranked 5th on points against and 4th on game %
2012 - carlton was ranked 9th on points against and 11th on game % (with massive injury run)
2013 - carlton was ranked 9th on points against and 10th on game %

As for 2014, well carlton is currently ranked 15th on points against and 13th on game % (after 15 rounds)

I think midfield is the key to modern footy and the experienced core of Judd, Carrazzo and Scotland have run their race

And Murphy hasn't been fit for a couple years

At the same time there's been a lack of good young midfielders coming through due to inept recruiting and as such there's been a vacuum of midfield talent

Loss of Betts hasn't helped this year what with Thomas coming off serious LTI

the rankings of Champion Data are not just based upon points against

at the end of 2012 champion data had the Blues defense quality ranked 14th in the league

(from your post, 11th isnt all that different)

The point is carltons defense needed attention by Mick the moment he set foot into the joint.

Improve everything of course, but you cant get anywhere with an average defense. Yo can still win a flag without a class ruckman, and you can still threaten with a 3rd or 4th best midfield.

You have no hope if your defense leaks goals like a sieve or cant counter attack...

In this place - It is going to be a long end to the season, long pre-season and a long 2015 season. And then when we re-sign MM for two more years it is going to be a long 2016 and 2017.

Save your energy and don't go too early.

Keep them coming redback. Nothing wrong with having an opinion (right or wrong) and arguing it. More than some others do on here.

http://news.theage.com.au/breaking-news-sport/malthouse-takes-aim-at-free-agency-20140702-3b7q3.html

this pretty much sums up why I dislike our coach so much.
blames players..out loud..telling them they don't have the goods (read, throws them under the bus, whilst probably telling them they can go out and win.

blames free agency..which is right, but at this stage, nothing to do with our losses.
blames Bootsma leaving as a reason we are losing!!!!
seriously..how can I respect a man who cannot see, and therefore improve his own shortcomings, and clearly, does not know how to mentally build a side.

Of course it can never be the fault of the GREAT Mick malthouse

A man who doesnt even recognise the game when he looks through the glass of the coaches box on game day. A man who wouldnt even like the game if he wasnt coach.

Ken Hinkley of course is going about his business improving his list which tarted off as second worst list in the league at the end of 2012.

Two tales ladies and gentlemen - one of hard work, positivity, creativity and discipline, whilst the other is based upon laziness, staleness, dishonesty and excuse making.....

We will learn the hard way it seems - and its taken over a decade for us to even admit its a problem let alone do something about it.

He took the $3,000,000 contract on knowing that the job description was to deliver improvement on Rattens record... a flag.

Did he do his due diligence on the list ?

Did the high flyers on the board do their due diligence on Mick ?

Ken Hinkley didnt complain about been handed a financial basket case o a club and a list that was rated 17th in the league at the end of 2012.

But then again, Hinkley was present on the first day of the 2012/13 pre season training. They didnt gallop off to Arizona to climb a low hill and sing the carlton club song. He didnt take until a few weeks prior to the start of the 2013 season to choose a captain. There were no sausage sizzles and book launches. Just hard work and honesty

Thats where you commence at a new posting - hard work and honesty

We didnt do that - we have rarely done that for over a decade

We are a modern analog of the 1980s StKilda teams - pathetic administration, pathetic mediocre standards and goal setting, weak leadership, etc

No one has ever said he was brought on to deliver a flag. That is a typical media beat up.

Do we want him to deliver a flag, definitely, but it became obvious early that he simply doesn't have the cattle. Last year was his first trade period, draft as coach.

He admitted he didn't know the list at all when he took over. That is why little was done in the period after he was signed.

What due diligence would you do on him that they shouldn't already know? His record and approach is fairly public.

Whether MM is the right coach to rebuild this list I'm not sure but I think you are letting your bias get in the way.

Let him build "his" list and then judge him. Personally, I agree with him that we simply don't have the talent and that was an issue way before he came on board.

You know, personally is doesn't affect me financially, because I resigned as a member a couple of seasons ago, but it pisses me off to see good intentioned passionate members on here and young kids who've never seen a good Carlton side getting RIPPED OFF by these spivs.

When is this club going to get real ??
