He was worth a 2nd and mcadam I reckon, considering he was contracted.

Go double check what Adelaide gave up to Sydney to get that pick 13 as well.

It was slightly overs in my opinion too. You don’t need to misrepresent what the deal was though.

Now I just want to see his highlights package on the field in navy blue.

I'm glad you asked, from the age - The Crows will receive pick 13 and 23-year-old McAdam, who starred in the SANFL this year and was on the radar of many clubs, some of which rated him inside the top 20 in the draft.

So if anything I was being conservative

I find it funny that many on here reckon we OVERPAID for a proven AFL player who can play forward or Back in Mcgovern.
This Mcadam bloke must be some superstar for a SNAFL player and as for Picks 26 + 28 last time i checked they hadn't had a single stat........
We had a VFL superstar and he just got delisted coz he couldn't cut it at AFL level.

Mitch Mcgovern is a STAR on the rise who is a PROVEN afl player that has played some very very good footy and will only get better and better.

IMO I'd rather McGovern every day of the week coz i know what he will deliver for the next 10 - 12 years..

So the Age (who at the age?) are saying we could have gone to many clubs and got a top 20 pick (because some rated him there), but instead chose to get a future pick upgrade. Does that make sense? Some rated him top 20, could have got him cheaper than that, for a late second, but chose not to? Must be some really dumb clubs out there.

The media is talking up the 2nd tier players to make it look as through the AFL actually helped us.

The SANFL is a shit standard
All these things are part of the equation



If you look at McGoverns output it’s not that great
We don’t need another player like him
We need mids
Stands out like a sore thumb

well said Deano as usual - agree with everything you said - also its like Charlie and Cripps re-signing if someone of that age and ability wants to come to the bottom side who won 2 games he MUST see something he thinks is sustainable and something that will bear fruit

I think the messaging of him wanting to come is something we can all hang our hat on for future success

Spot on the McGovern signing will have positive knock on effects , on field and other areas.
Will help remove some of the non destination club stigma we have developed.

The club said 3 years ago it was going to go to three consecutive drafts and stock up on talent, that's exactly what we have done and have traded out Henderson, Touhy and Gibbs to help with that rebuild.

We have a lot of young talent on the list - we wanted to bring in some midrange talent round that 23-27 years old bracket, and we did exactly that with Mcgovern and Newman, and also added another bluechip kid in setterfield to compliment Walsh this season. Even Fasolo is only 26.

It feels like you are being hyper critical.

I have no doubt the club was alarm how badly we fell away at times in 2018 - who wasn't?

Losing Docherty on top of Gibbs plus the crazy number of injuires exposed our lack of AFL mature depth badly. Its exactly why we need the likes of Mcgovern, Fasolo and Newman - to help cover some of those deficiencies while our kids grow.

I also think McGoven is going to be a bloody star for us. A front half with McKay, Curnow and McGovern is potent to say the least. Athleticism at ground level and in the Air.

You know that, I know that, keogh knows that, everyone knows that ... even the anti media acknowledge that when they forget to hate Carlton.

Some people want to create reaction or debate. I think keogh has succeeded doing both, but its the same old same old points....I have put money on McGovern being a bargain. He's a star in the making. As 3rd fiddle, or 4th if you include Betts, Mitch has created a great highlights real, because he has star quality. He can run, jump, mark and kick goals. If he continues doing that and gets better with experience at carlton....the world is his oyster.

Watch the kids step up next year. I wonder what keogh thinks of Andrew Russel's recruitment and the impact he's likely to have. If kepgh calls him a retread, I will.... ... ignore him.

Just for a bit of objectivity, what would you have done with a player that wanted to come to our club, is in the age demographic that we are looking for and plays in the part of the ground we have limited talent in?

I am a bit like you Keogh, I am not thrilled with the deal, but a second rounder and McAdam would never get the deal done so you either do the deal or walk away.

If we walk away, then what would be the flow on affect in future years, if a player is considering us or another team and can't be sure that a trade will be done?

In regards to Fasolo it is simply a swap for Wright and didn't cost us anything and if Russel can get his body and head right may prove to be bargain pickup. It's a pass in my opinion

McGovern was a third tall forward at Adelaide. Those types don't get a lot of possessions, because a. they are tall forwards, and b. because they are third in line.

He is a quality player and will just make our forwardline all the more dangerous as we will now have three genuine tall targets up there. Cannot recall the last time Carlton had such a set up.

The list is coming along just nicely.

Now we need some luck with injuries so the youngsters can develop.

Another good young key defender would be good, as would a high quality small forward.

I see Dow and Walsh (assuming we get him) as two ripping young midfielders who can take the club forward. From what I can gather both have excellent personalities (see leadership qualities) and both can play both inside and outside. They will set us in good stead for the years to come.
