I don't see how they could get ahead of themselves after last year, and the poor patch we had this year.

Fans are always going to get ahead of themselves, but don't think that automatically translates to the players.

Absolutely! They are a completely different unit at the moment.

I understand why people still get nervous about this team - I still get nervous every week as I am as mentally scarred as anyone. But this is definitely different and it feels very different.

How the fans carry on has little to do with what goes on inside the 4 walls at Princes Park, PROVIDED they are being led well and believe in the message. I think they have well and truly bought in after the shitstorm they endured during the middle of this season which has solidified the group.

Yes, of course we are going to lose a game at some stage, but I don't think it will be this week.

WE might have a Premiership hangover and lose a NAB Cup game in the preseason. Wont be round 1.

I said before WCE we were a different side and should rest Cripps Cerra etc

Told that was arrogant and getting ahead of ourselves. Different club now. The players certainly aren't getting ahead of themselves and I bet Voss won't let them. We haven't achieved anything yet

Different Team, Different Club, Different attitude.

The Carlton of the last 25 years is now in the past

I agree 100%
Supporters should not be nervous about this game.

Geez, you must be a real hoot at parties! :garthp:

As a Club, we have always had a Poor run with Injuries and surely it is more than just a run of back luck.

All the more reason to send some positive vibes their way and not try to jinx them when they are finally stringing some games together and showing great form.

I don't even joke about injuries to the opposition - whether you believe in karma or not is irrelevant - it is just distasteful.

No I don't believe in Karma... I believe in something called " Let's chill & have some fun ". :donk: :donk:

Positive vibes always bring negative Results but Negative comments always bring positive results!! That's how it always been with our footy Club!

On a more Serious note, the Club needs to do a full Review of its medical Team and try to work out why we have so many injuries every year... They need to look at things like:

- Do we have the right Training Regime in place?
- Do we have the right Diet regime for the players?
- Are players getting enough rest/sleep during off days? are they eating the right foods?
- Are we going too hard during the off season and causing uneccessary soft injuries?

- Are we recruting injury prone players without checking their full history?

And this one is a big one for me and I have brought it up once with the club:

- Are We training on a good/suitable Ground? I ask that because I find Ikon Park oval way too hard, last time I ran there, my Knee started to make funny noises lol.

All good questions and I am sure the last review included a review of the fitness and medical teams. From listening to Russell talk previously I am confident they are on top of all the issues. Injuries are just part of high performance athletes though and I do not think we get any more over a period of time than other clubs.

Every single game is a challenge, our St.kilda clash on Sunday no different, as long as we bring our new found intensity & physical pressure we should be safe.
Both teams have so much to play for , team pride & possible shot at a final or two.
Lyon ain’t no fool he’s a reasonable coach and has access to plenty of info regarding our players .
Player availability & readiness or form, will be essential.
This will be a great test for Vossy & the boys, close to the finals, it’s a must win game.

these are all very big calls ... and only time well tell ...

whilst i am very hopeful we can progress into the finals this year, and our last 6 weeks have been great, the weeks proir to that were flower miserable.

if we get ahead of ourselves, then we have learnt anything from that period nor the last two weeks of last year ... and its not even about a win or loss scenario ... its about how we play and the effort applied that is the difference.

I think all agree, if we go with the same plan, same intensity and same attacking football and lose ... whilst it would suck, i can probably accept that ...

but if we lose because we think we are millionaries, dont have to roll up our sleeves, dont do the hard unrewarded running, dont keep up the forward pressure, dont make our tackles and expect everything to fall into place, then we havent learnt anything and the last 6 weeks mean nothing.

im starting to form the opinion, that we are hitting form at the right end of the season, timing the run perfectly to the point, where not only am i starting to expect us to make finals, but feature in the later stages ... but none of that is possible, if we have our heads up our own asses, drinking our own bath water, patting ourselves on the back for a job well done ..

the job hasnt even started yet.

you must have been at Vossy’s presser!

was boringly focused on looking forward not backward to the painful periods. and immediately looking forward at Saint Kilda and showing them due respect as if they’re the best team in the AFL and getting tough, diligent, role playing and even contributions from the 22 players selected.

Walsh still a 3 week prospect.

Why wouldn't Cripps play?
If it was a corkie, that would have improved since last week where he played pretty well.

3 things we need to be focused on IMO:
1) Keep our intensity & our shape
2) Keep Sinclair under control
3) Keep our forward handball game going; keep the ball in our forward line even if they clog things up.

4) having all players prepared to do repeat jogging/running (depending on cardiac ability) to make position/hold defensive lines and allow for fast ball movement between the arcs. even if the individual rewards don’t come immediately.

Annoying. Marchbank takes his role I guess.

Better now than in first week of finals (if we manage to limp in).

I hope they haven't tried to ramp up a training block in anticipation of an extra few weeks. Whatever they're doing, stop it!

The five inclusions to the squad are potential debutant Jaxon Binns, Ed Curnow, Sam Durdin, Zac Fisher and Josh Honey, with the team to be announced tomorrow at 5pm.

TBH, we did well to get this many games out of Guv in a row, given his history.
Over to you, Marchy.

But how does Honey get anywhere near the squad, let alone the side?
Let's hope one of the small fwds isn't also under a cloud...

Hope S.Durdin is in. Was awesome in pre season at FB. Can play on main tall and allow Weitering more freedom. Would give us another option
