It comes as McKay pushes to come back potentially as early as Friday night’s clash with Essendon** at the MCG.

McKay would need to get through the Blues’ main training session to prove his fitness this week. But the club will give him every chance to make a shock return to tackle the Bombers.

If he falls short, he is almost certain to return against Richmond on Thursday week. McKay hasn’t played since suffering a lateral meniscus tear in his knee in the Round 8 win over Adelaide.

He was expected to miss at least six weeks of football when he suffered the injury, but looks set to return before that time frame.

He started running again during the bye round last week and stepped up his work rate this week.

His imminent return would be a huge boost for the Blues after a challenging past few weeks with injury.

McKay (20) and Curnow (37) have combined for 57 goals so far this season, with the Blues’ double-pronged key position attack testing the defence of rival clubs.

McKay was one of the first to congratulate Caleb Marchbank, who will play his first AFL match in more than 1000 days on Friday night.

Harry is ready.

Not sure if Durdin will be selected this week. He has a lot of learning to do about our game plan, but he isn't wasting time asking questions to fast track his selection. Just doesn't sound like he's IP fit with the game plan.

Durdin has found the competing against Charlie at training very challenging to say the least. Ditto against Harry. The two KPF's are ready.

Friday night will be slippery but it might not be wet. Marking should still feature.

this is almost a self fulfilling proficiency ... how could a player like Durdin, not get better playing on McKay/Curnow every week, and conversely, how can they not get better playing on Weitering/Marchbank etc.. every week ..

legit good time to be a carlton supporter ... we have genuine stars all over the field now ..

Looks like

B: Stocker Young Plowman
HB: Docherty Marchbank Saad
C: Walsh Cripps O’Brien
HF: Durdin McKay Fisher
F: Silvagni Curnow Martin
Foll: TDK Hewett Cerra
Int: Kennedy Owies Newman Cottrell (Newnes)

That’s a very good side that should win and win well

If we're serious... we beat the junkies comfortably... injuries and all

But we all know that with this fixture you throw out the form guide... the underdog is the favorite

Lose it and we may be lamenting this game if it costs us a finals spot

Seriously, @#$%&! smash them

The names look pretty good but Walsh has hardly played wing this year, if at all. It would be a significant shift to see him there.
Mind you, I wouldn't mind seeing it.

The trouble with the media constantly talking about our midfield beating teams up is the opposition are setting themselves for the challenge. Last week Taylor Adams was always going to get in a tangle with Cripps to show his team mates he was up for it and it only took a short period of time before the altercation was on.
The frustration for me was that Cripps appeared to get the upper hand but the Collingwood players jumped in and allowed Adams to get the ascendancy in the wrestle.
Our players should never let that happen to their leader and I hope Voss has driven the point home.

The Bummers will be the same. They'll come out smoking on Friday night and want to challenge our mids in the physical stakes. Don't be surprised to see Stringer try to ruffle Crippa's feathers at the first bounce.
Hopefully our boys are up for the challenge. Hard, tough, aggressive footy and take the wind out of their sails straight away. Most importantly, don't let them try to dominate our leaders. Fight fire with fire.
Cripps can handle the heat. If they want to get overly physical, lets see if Darcy Parish or Merret can handle it coming back?

The bombers are building this up like it’s a grand final.

Gotta smash them in the first 10 minutes to kill out any enthusiasm

I am expecting a very physical game.
Our boys are coming off a loss; a painfull loss.
Falling to 7th on the ladder. That must hurt.

With that violent thug Sheedy back in the fold mouthing off, I expect him to encourage the biff.

I expect Draper to target and maim TDK.
They know if TDK's out of the way, licking his wounds, Cripps is taken away from the fall of the ball from the ruck contest because he will be rucking.

I hope TDK is aware of some of the tactics he can expect from the thug Draper.
Draper hasn't been in good form, and that's when he's most dangerous because he knows he has to bring something to the table...and with Sheeds in his ear...

Have to be bigger than the shit they will dish out....a MUST win.

30 minutes before the bounce.

My first VFL game live was 1968 GF.
Everytime we player Effendruggies* it feels like a Final.

I didn't despise the Druggies in 68. But when Sheedy took over and turned them into dirty thugs, that was it: they were unAustralian....Alien.

I'm guessing the following changes:

IN: Marchbank :gift: McKay :gift: Martin :gift: Kennedy :gift:

OUT: Weitering  Dow Motlop Newnes. Carroll

SUB: Newnes or Dow

On the one hand I'm worried about injuries if the Bombers come out violently, which they surely will after Sheedy gets in their ears.
On the other hand, if they're focused on the man, and we're focused on the ball that could work in our favour.

They can come out firing on emotion but that will last what 10 minutes?

The game is played over four quarters. We are a better side than them and should win if we're serious about contending this year.
