Alas...no. It's been a good year off - but being away from forum world suits me more than I thought. I have changed my views on many things while away. I now believe that the football club should be planning to play games at Princes Park again in the future. Mosquito Fleet will be happy!

However to do so, the board needs to sell its soul to the AFL. And by soul - I mean the lease. With 19 years to run. The current board would never do that. Not in a million years. And by a million years, I mean the next five - which is make or break for this football club - not that the current President agrees with that sentiment. He and his coterie cronies are still hanging onto the notion that Carlton is a 'big 4' club. The reality is that the club is a bees dick away from being an AFL controlled entity. Kinda like North Melbourne - even though North Melbourne would never admit it.

Steven Trigg is trying hard. I hope that's going to be enough. But I still find it strange that Carlton doesn't communicate with lapsed members. It's downright bizarre. They've lost an amazing amount of people and have put it down to natural churn! That's on the CEO. Whether they come back or not is another thing - but it doesn't cost much to try.

Maybe a Chinese sponsor could help with membership? One with global reach? It's all about networking after all... I wish them well in their endeavors.

 that is almost word for word what I used to write when reviewing bad songs for a song comp.
"Be ruthless in your editing
I wish you well in all your future endeavours."
So going on that..
I reckon you think the club is currently a very poor song
And in dire need of attention to detail.;)

ting..

You're going over the top with the board rhetoric IMO, but no surprises given the way the rest of your dinner companions have been ranting all year.

Using music analogies - I reckon for the last decade, Carlton has been managed by a big-hair band circa 1991. Had a record deal, album sales and a strong fan-base. But they didn't see the change in music coming, and when it did happen, they had nothing to fall back on. They kept on doing things as they'd always done. There was no change management. When someone stepped in promising change - they themselves had no new ideas. So the old way it was..."more hairspray and leather pants fellas...this gig in Ballarat could be the ticket back!"

It is more than hair that is being teased.

And sure - there'll always be loyal fans who will buy anything you're selling. But the reviews aren't kind.

I'm hoping for a resurgence of sorts - but realistically, even if the band is writing really good stuff - management is only capable of organising a support act gig to Uncanny X-men at the Rooty Hill RSL, when the expectation is that they'd be able to coordinate a stadium tour of Japan with Def Leppard.

Oh boy. If there's any curmudgeonly palm greasers still on the board when she gets installed, she'll turn into a hand grenade and hurl herself at them. No wonder Doc et al are getting mad.

Great appointment IMO.

Everyone entitled to their opinions Jim. I've got lots of time for the current Pres and CEO - there's never been a more accessible executive in the history of the club. I've been fortunate to meet one-on-one with Mark and Steven and ask questions of them. I would invite others to do the same. I don't agree with the direction of the place - and that's fine. It's not the end of the world. Hence I'm not a member (although having no interest in going to a game of football is probably the sealer there...I haven't been to an AFL game for a few years).

I can't speak for my dinner companions. I'm not even sure who you're alluding to. I have dinner with many people. Most nights I have dinner with people who couldn't name a single Carlton footballer...and that in itself makes me pretty happy.

It's been fun being on here for a week or two. It's a wonderful site. I wish it well in its future endeavors.

We're agreed on something Jim...great appointment. People who grew up in Templestowe in the 70's are all good with me. Never met a bad one.

I would have thought that the members would want to have a say - but that's for the members to discuss. But I think the term 'members' is a bit of a stretch when it comes to Carlton. 'Season ticket holder' far more appropriate.

umm...
wrong way go back!

read thru again.

also,
I know you missed a lot of Moshe's great posts.
He is not one to repeat himself really. most of us know his take on our club.
A particularly good one about CFC, fish tanks, and dirty water.
Worth going back to find. Very astute is Moshe.
Doesn't need me or anyone else to go in and bat for him either,
but just sayin'.
