I suspect the club was pretty nervous about being left without a senior recruiter going into what is clearly going to be an important draft for us with access to some elite talent.

But which clubs were going to fall over themselves to take Shane Rogers.

I don't think it's so much about who would poach Rogers. More about who would actually be left to run the recruiting department, if he went.

But why 3 years? Where was he going to go? He's not going to leave to work at Woolies.

that would be terrific if mckay was footy dept boss and list manager

thats two feathers in his cap... but he went for the ceo job.

though i know the mathiesons dont rate him even as footy op manager
so we tried to restructure recruitment failed and end result is shane stays but with 3 year contract and mckay wears 2 hats now....

make it happen!!!

It's clear that McKay is presiding over the best managed list in the Afl.

Definitely wouldn't want to jeopardise that.

Give him another million to stay.

I like Shane Rogers - but 3 years? I trust there's a little more to that contract than meets the eye. And Andrew McKay as List Manager and Footy Operations Manager? That's a little crazy...I was almost certain he would be a full-time veterinarian next year.

I notice Ryan Trainor has set up a fantastic looking Diploma of Business. So you're not being taught by University Professors who have never worked a day in business in their lives.I wish I had the $21,000 you need to do it.

Fair to say there are a few people in managerial positions at Carlton who should be on the phone to Ryan to see if they can enrol.

The review went well. Shane Rogers must be a jedi knight.

Shane Rogers has been a member of the worst recruiting team ever for a very long time. As long as he learns from his mistakes I can only see him improving.

Shane will be busy.

Unlike last year when we were not sure of where we would end up or the year before when we didn't have a coach, the season is cooked very early and Rogers and co will have his instructions as to what to look for.

The club will have a tough job. On the one hand we should have better selections because of our crapola season (I think we are tanking now) but on the other it will be harder to "sell" the dream to players we hope to get to Carlton.

From what I read about him, I would think he is on the clubs wish list.

How can you possibly tell at this stage? I'd say he's been a mixed bag so far and from where we are coming from, that's not going to be good enough.

Like I said we couldn't do any worse by just using Emma Quayle's list.

Yeah dunno. The same Emma Quayle who said we were the big winners of the 2010 draft that saw us take Mathew Watson, Pat McCarthy, and Luke Mitchell?

I prefer quick middys who have no speed.

Yeah dunno, but at least we wouldn't have had to pay for a Recruiting Department to select that rubbish.
